well, actually no other tp I have even seen does that. Not even mine. It would help if he had posted a screen of what he was talking about. It is a mess.

It's because he's holding a GRASS block. There's no way of obtaining a grass block ingame. So he must have edited his inventory and given himself one. Now, as these blocks aren't even supposed to be in the game, Notch couldn't be ****ed giving it more than ONE texture all around when in the inventory.
Now, if you place it however, it turns into a normal grass block like we know them.

All texture packs look like that. Just try and test it. It's part of the coding, not the textures.
