Ok, sorry for being a noob at this, but i cant find grass to save my life. I need to edit the colors to fit my pack and i cant even find the image for grass on the terrain.png or in the jar..i have a feeling its right in front of me i just cant find it.
i had a feeling it had to do with that..i just didnt wanna f anything up..whys it without color though? can i make it have color or must i keep it black and white?
In the miscellanous texture folder there is a png called grasscolor.png
That image file is the color overlay that is put onto the grey-scaled grass texture. As you can see, it changes color depending on where on the scale it is. That's the biomes. There's also a foliagecolor which is the color for the leaves of trees.
BUMP , and my the texture in my terrain png to the top right is a sapling???? can someone explain!
Indeed it's a sapling. Sapling and mushroom textures look like an X from the birds eye perspective to make it have that 3D look.
@gostly: it's supposed to look like that. Place the block and it will look different.

Let me reprhase my question. Earlier in the thread someone said the grass texture was in the top right corner of terrain.png. Well, in the top right corner of mine, there is a sapling. So did he mean top left.

...that cant be right...bc the top of that item block also has the side texture when its supposed to have the grass texture..regular grass item blocks dont do that!

Yes they do. At least, they have since I started playing minecraft, back when we were still at 1.5_01.
Have you tried placing the block down and see if it has grass on top? I'm quite sure it looks like that because the game is coded to use the 3rd texture on all sides when the block is in your inventory.

Then it is coloured a shade of green depending on the biome.
Give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day.

Yes you are correct. It's the top left corner.
Here's a template with all of them labeled:

It's supposed to look like that. It's what ever your grass side/dirt texture repeated on all sides.
