I looked at all the tutorials in the sticky above. I have tried watching I don't know how many tutorials on YouTube. I have tried Google searches for an answer to my question. I can't find anything. So here it is.
I am making I guess you could call it a remix texture pack for my own personal use. It will NOT be posted on the forums as not all of the textures used will be my own. I do plan on making some of the textures myself, but will be using some from other packs that I like. The issue I am having is with the container/furnace/crafting/inventory/trap GUI pieces. I have seen in some packs where they have added pictures to them. What I want to do, is take the default textures for these and add pictures to them. I have photoshop, but I am only a basic user of it. I know how to take the, for example, default inventory.png and then drag the picture I want on top of it. Now the problem is, I don't know how to, blend I guess, the two together so you can see the inventory but it has the picture also.
I hope this is clear enough. I can't think of a better way to explain it. If someone else understands what I mean and can explain it clearer, then by all means do.
Thank you for any help.
Edit. Also can anyone advise the best way to make new weapons and armor? Is there like a website out there that has different weapon and armor types that would work for a minecraft texture pack. I plan on sticking with the 16x for now since this is my first venture into this.
The use of drop-shadows, inner shadows, outer glows, strokes, and color overlays is one place to start, if I understand your question correctly.
Just browse through several texture packs, get some ideas, and try to replicate them, your idea will come to you soon enough.
Can't help you with your second question :/

Not sure what you mean by that. Like is there a way I can just take the default container.png and put it in photoshop. Then take the picture that i want and lay it over the top of that. Then make the picture like somewhat transparent so the container.png shows through?
I believe the Photoshop technique you are looking for is called layer masking. It pretty much allows you to place a picture and make it not pass the boundaries of the selected area.

To make new weapons or armor, edit items.png inside the gui folder. To create new ones (as in functionality), make a mod.
Yeah I understand that much. I'm curious if there is like a website that has weapons and armor that would work for that. Or if I basically have to design my own.
Edit: Weapon and armor sprites is the term I was looking for. So like a website that has a bunch of them you could choose from and then edit them into the items.png

No that's not it. I watched a tutorial on that.
