@luna_panshiel: Thank you for the compliments. Although I'm curious why this pack brings doku's RPG to mind (besides the balance between detail and smoothness you mentioned).
the original doku's RPG pack had an emphasis on traditional fantasy, it had a distinct stylized look reminiscent of many old SNES-era RPGs(which in turn the majority were based on victorian-era fantasy), which shared simple color schemes and detailing. often using well-blended colors to fill in where details weren't able to due to the low-resolution graphics of the time.
many of your terrain textures share a similar aesthetic, simple lines and shapes that are emphasized by use of color rather than complexity of detail. the similarity is most noticeable in your grass, wood, wood planks, sand, sandstone, gravel, snow and leaves, the majority of the standard terrain.
your grass is extremely similar to doku grass, and the sandstone greatly resembles how doku stone looked, you could probably substitute the old vintage doku's RPG textures for some of these without them looking out of place, your textures are notably more complex though
more "fluffy" looking for lack of a better term, the old doku textures were a bit "flat" for the most part
while most everything else has a more whimsical style, comparable to jolicraft or summer fields, the tall grass and flowers in particular are very similar to summer fields
forgive me if I'm spending too much time comparing your work to other packs, I'm having a hard time wording my thoughts on this
your pack has hints of both while maintaining it's own unique look, as a fan of both packs i really enjoy the feel of this one, now if only i could decide on a suitable project to use this set for. perhaps a small cabin surrounded by trees in an extreme hills biome
and again to clarify, I'm referring to the very very old doku's RPG textures before all the fans went crazy trying to "upgrade" it, i can't stand the majority of the newer offshoots
Edit: for reference here is a sample of the vintage doku's RPG pack from before the nether was added
i like that your pack has a considerably softer feel to it while maintaining a traditional fantasy theme, not something many packs have
I'm also familiar with your lost valley pack, i have been wanting to mess around with it but haven't gotten around to it, so I'm withholding commenting on it until i play with it a bit more. though i will say that it is one of the most unique packs out there

Thanks for the explanation. And I look forward to hearing what you think of Lost Valley .:wink.gif:
well i encountered my single biggest pet peeve in any texture pack, an incomplete items.png *ransacks your other texture packs and a half-dozen others for filler parts*
and i have an idea for the end stone and end portal for lost valley while I'm at it:
since there's a very obvious jungle temple theme going on, you could make end stone nothing but a pile of bones.
the idea being that the stronghold is an abandoned temple to some long forgotten Aztec-like god, and the end portal was a sacrificial altar that they just kept throwing people in. the floating island would be made entirely of sacrificed victims, hence the bones, with the endermen being cursed souls
change ender eyes to an indiana jones style golden emblem, with ender pearls as a cracked and fragmented version in need of repair, so they need to be inserted to restore the "altar"

Just thought I'd pop in to say hi, so hi. As far as texture packs are concerned your pack is one of my favourites, the detail and use of colour are astounding and show how hard you have worked on this pack. In fact looking at this has made me want to reconsider the direction of my pack. I never wanted my pack to be RPG, I always wanted it to flow with a realism but without it becoming a photo realism pack. Your pack makes me want to focus on the little details more, not so much with the natural blocks; I am already very pleased with my direction on those but with crafted blocks like the enchanting table, furnace and crafting table which show potential for new and different possibilities. For that I thank you. Also I can't wait to see your take on other armours, dragon and whatnot.
Glad I could be of assistance (even if indirectly). :biggrin.gif:
And I hope that my armor and dragon will live up to your expectations and be suitably impressive.
To be quite honest, I have no idea what cosmic standard you are judging your pack by if you need more reassurance on its success. It really is a fantastic pack with its own style, over 200 pages of praise, and more downloads in a day than I've had in the month and a half since I've released my own pack. I am quite jelly :tongue.gif:
My only real feedback is that you need to finish the items.png whenever you can :tongue.gif:

I actually don't get that many downloads-- only about 100 a day, unless something big happens (like the release of minecraft, which netted me a whole truck-load).
And you know what they say about how we are our own worst critics. People say 'I love this block!' And I think to myself, 'Omg, I hate that block! How could I have ever put something that poorly done up for download?'. I'm sure you understand. :tongue.gif:

Exactly, but that's why every pack keeps getting better :tongue.gif:
100 a day is a lot when you put it in perspective. 1 in every 41,743.65 Download your pack a day. try to think of it not a statistic but as people. 100 people visit the forum and choose to download your pack. That seems pretty special to me.
True. On its own 100 a day is pretty neat. But....well, I'm sorry to say that I am a very competitive person, so I'm not comparing myself to 0 downloads, I'm comparing myself to Doku/misa/aageon and the popularity of their packs. I'm actually quite obsessed with the thought of becoming the next doku, to the point of rabidness. *gnaws on edge of desk*
But you're right. I probably should relax more. Curse you perfectionist streak! *shakes fist*
EDIT: Oh, and I'm working on a section on the OP for fan screenshots. Only the best of the best will be included, so hit me with your best shot! (literally ^^)
And for the love of god, if they're more than about 800 pixels wide, please scale them down!
I get around 600-1000 downloads on my pack every day. :ohmy.gif: If me and Galago can get some texturing going so that we can release updates more frequently we might get more. :smile.gif: My record was on the release of minecraft where I got 1,900 downloads in one day! :laugh.gif:
Anyways, I'll give you a slight review on this. :smile.gif:
- Smoother break animation, right now it looks too rough, just add some blur to it. :smile.gif:
- The ores need a revamp, for some reason they just look a bit amateurish(?), not that they probably are, but that's how I see them. Try add some different colors too them, especially the iron ore. :smile.gif:
- Every "grey" thing in general is a bit too grey, lordofsax's textures are a great example of how to make things non-grey and still look amazing.
- The purple on the enchantment table/workbench seems a bit out of place.
- Thicker vines with a some shadowing. Right now they look too thin and under-shaded.
- Same with the leaves. Especially the pine leaves.
- The brown mushroom could be thicker, the "X" shape is too obvious.
- Make the logs look rounder.
- The redstone torch looks weird, especially the one turned off.
- Only include the same patterned wool in the default download.
- Stone is slightly too dark to look good with the dirt.
Can't really think of much more right now, but I hope this came in handy. :smile.gif:
600-1000 a day?! Son of a--!
Ahem. Sorry.
Anyway, thanks for reviewing. Although I'm afraid I disagree with a lot of what you said. Stylistic differences, and all that.
-I've been meaning to redo the break animation for a while. I agree that it's sub-par.
-...amateurish? Except for perhaps making the gold ore a little less buttery, I don't really see anything that needs to be changed. By adding 'different colors' to them, do you mean giving them more sparkle and color variation?
-I like gray stone. :biggrin.gif:
-Purple is one of the main colors of my pack. I have a red alternate for the enchanting table, but I think blue/purple fits better with the overall feel of the pack, regardless of what color the default is.
-I like my wispy, delicate vines. One of the things I hated about the default vines was how thick and ropy they were. But you're right, they could probably do with a bit more shading.
-*gasp* But...but....my leaves. Oak leaves are probably the texture I love the most in this pack. I respect you as an artist leo, but I'm not touching them. Although the pine leaves could probably stand to have a bit more brightness variation to give them more depth.
-Agreed. Need to redo white mushroom.
-Do you mean the stump texture or the bark texture?
-Stylistic difference again. I like my redstone torches. Perhaps if you could explain what you find weird...?
-Hmm, interesting suggestion. But then the default download wouldn't really be 'default', because the wools that I've chosen to be default don't all have the same pattern.
-Interesting observation. I've noticed a stone/dirt tension as well. I'll have to play with them some more. :smile.gif:
Again, thank you for taking the time to give me feedback on my work.
Well Steelfeathers, the texture pack I've been talking about now and then on here has finally been released, though it's still far from finished.
I decided to post this here to tell you that your pack was a large part of the reason I made it. I wanted to make a texture pack people would enjoy, and possibly see it in some other peoples' videos or screenshots, just like yours.
My pack didn't turn out quite as well, but a couple people say they like it, and I'm hoping it continues.
It's funny that I post this now, I think someone else just got done saying that you gave them some inspiration, too. :smile.gif:
Yeah, go to the breakroom, much more efficient than talking here. :smile.gif:
Anyways, here's my try on the iron ore.
Could need some adjustments, but I hope you see what I'm after. :smile.gif:
That looks nice! Mind if I swipe for testing and/or using? :wink.gif:
Also, here's my attempt to make gold ore look less silly and make both the gold ore and gold block actually look like, well, gold. New textures are on top.

Jesus, take a breather Leo. I love you're art but I like the ores feathers made, especially the new gold. I really like the cobble you did, but I feel the original fits the pack better. While yours, like you said, probably goes with dirt better, it looks like it belongs in your RPG pack, not Enchanted.

Retired StaffThose are so beautiful! I can't decide whether water or fire is my favorite....
Damn, now you guys have got me wanting to make my own temple! :biggrin.gif:

Well, that's something good to come back to after a long thanksgiving vacation! :biggrin.gif: (I like the red more than the purple too)
BUTTER G- Ahem, the new gold is absolutely amazing! :laugh.gif:
