So I'm making a 16x16 texture pack that, due to the theme, is primarily monochrome(black/gray/white). It's based off of a level called the Boggly Woods in a video game called Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Anyone who's played that game and remembers the level will know that the ground and few other aspects are multicolored in shades of purple/blue/green while the shrubs/tall grass/weeds/flowers/other flora are white.
I've got a texture modeled to look like the bushes from the Boggly Woods to be used as the tall grass, but I have this problem. The bushes are supposed to be white/black, but since the ground/grass is multicolored, biome shading causes the bushes to become colored instead of white.
Here's a screenshot from the game...
...vs the file I'm using...
...vs how it looks in Minecraft:
Is there any way at all to preserve the bush's whiteness without having to turn the grass biome shading white as well? Doing so would go against the theme, so I don't want to do that if at all possible. In the worst case the bushes will have to remain colored, but I'd just like to know if there's a way to make them white.
While you were looking at that second screenshot, you might have noticed the birch tree on the left; its leaves are green while every other tree's leaves are white. I'd like to ask if there's a way to change the birch leaves from being green. I can change the pine trees and normal trees by changing the biome shading colors, but birch trees are another story. The internet research I've conducted seems to imply that it isn't currently possible to change birch tree leaves, but I just want to confirm that - if it's false, how do I change it and what file would I edit?
Also, is the grass too obviously tiled? I want to know if I should change it or not. It's the second version of grass for my pack I've made, but I don't think it will be the last. Right now I think the vines on the ground are in a line that's too straight and linear, but I want a second opinion.
Thanks for reading, input and tips on how to improve would be much appreciated. (:
I tried adding some color to the tile, but it didn't work. I guess there's no way to make the tall grass just white without changing the ground, then. Darn. Thanks for answering, anyways. (: Any input for the other things I mentioned?
Alright, thanks for answering the questions, you guys! =D Mind if I ask another question?
How do you edit the fire animation? Not torches or particles, but like... the flames when something is on fire. I know it can be done, but I don't really know how to do it. Same goes for custom nether portals - can that only be done with HD texture packs? (I use that HD patcher to apply custom water and lava, but the option is grayed out on my own texture pack for portals)
Yes, custom portals and fire can only be used with the patcher.
You need a file called "custom_portal.png" to change the animated portal effect.
You need two files called "custom_fire_n_s.png" and "custom_fire_e_w.png" to change the animated fire.
Ohhh, okay! Thanks. (:
Could I trouble someone for some example files to edit to get an idea of what I should be making? ;D
