I've started the video shooting...just getting footage. I'll definitely wait til you are the most comfortable with the terrain before I add your clips. It's looking really cool so far and I'm testing stuff as you update.
/eagerly awaits
:tongue.gif:
video shooting? WHAAAAT? hahaha, when I am happy... hahaha... *mumbles a bout being immortal and never truly happy... that could be a while hahahah. I am trying to work towards a 0.8, the untweaked but complete sheet of terrain textures.
doing my head in and consuming all of my spare time. I kind of threw myself in the deep end being this is my first digital art.
My word, you've been busy! :ohmy.gif: I'll download this and playtest it a little. :biggrin.gif: Would you like some screenshots of large structures in different styles?
feel free to post them, of course, I would be delighted :smile.gif:
only one thing bugs me atm - and that is the workbench and chest, and everything else wood related, has different planks on them. And we have different planks as .. well planks :S
I know i might be the only one asking it, but meh, could you somehow make it blend in more? Update the stuff that is plank affected to have the new planks.
Edit: TL;DR Planks... And again Planks
possibly, I might try and work in planks a bit differently, I'm not entirely happy with them, well, not at all happy with them hahaha. Not sure I will make it blend with chest and things though, they are separate objects, I will try and bring the colours in line though.
New - sandstone, cactus, mushrooms and redstone torches.
Tweaked - planks (still not complete but released in the state I got to), dispenser, mossy cobble, ladders, iron doors and windows (darkened) and more!'
plans for 0.6 - alternate stone texture, all redstone items, birch trees, a few more odds and ends.
I've been trying to find one that feels right for me, but most usually have one or two things that really bug me, but this pack is just perfect so far.
I'm looking forward to the finished product!
Keep up the great work :biggrin.gif:
thanks mate, I appreciate the encouragement. I look forward to completing the pack too
I have been doing a few of the smaller textures like mushrooms and things, will be working on redstone torches and things as well as sandstone soon I think. Cheers again for all the positive feedback guys.
Also When I do sandstone, I will look at making an alternate 'smooth' stone texture too
Idea for smooth stone, give it a creamy white marble-ish look (just an idea :tongue.gif:), would give it a nice "temple" style feel to the rest of the RPG pack. :biggrin.gif:
really, which ones in particular? Most of the terrain.png is incomplete so it is all darkened in the main picture, other than that I haven't found anything too dark yet. I would love to know if this is common for people, it being too dark that is.
by the way, love your pack too.
Nevermind. I had the brightness down too low on my screen-- no wonder all my packs looked dark! lol
Also: Can I have a piece of your fame? I'm working on my own RPG style pack right now (unposted, as of yet) and I really hope it gets as much attention as yours.

That is a grand idea, I might see what I can come up with today perhaps, depending on how much real work I get done.
Are you considering making the dirt a bit more textured ?
For me i find it blurry, or is it meant to be like that?
Yeah I will look at tweaking dirt, it was my first piece of digital art ever, and I have learnt something in the 20+ textures since then, so I will revisit it sometime, Im not entirely unhappy with it, so It may come after I have the terrain sheet filled out.

OH WOW, I cant wait to borrow Ideas from you! haha. Let me know when It's posted so I can haver a look. Also I love your bones for redstone Idea, I want to do something creative with it.
I like the victorian, rpg feel I get when im using it. It makes everything look great keep up the good work
cheers tomaz, there is definitely a lot of inspiration from that era, as well as glimmars work in his steampunk pack, so Im drawing from a lot of places to make my pack something unique and useful.
thanks so much for the support guys, 2000 views and counting.
and 408 downloaded so far. Hopefully this will boost when I get the terrain done even more.
I made a video kind of showcasing some of the blocks and also saying what I like and don't like. I just found that giving input would be easier if I could also show what I mean visually.
I really like the pack. There are a couple things I think could use a change. The cobblestone doesn't seem to tile well. Maybe its just me but I can always seem to find where one block starts and the other ends. I tried to demonstrate that in the video as well. The cobble is good just could probably flow a bit better.
The wooden planks create this weird effect when you look down a long row of them. Mostly because they're horizontal. They blend and flow well but create these weird line warps because the lines all just go horizontal. They are also kind of boring to look at when used in large numbers.
Take my input with a grain of salt since I'm just some random guy on a message board :tongue.gif:

that is fantastic, would you like me to embed it in the OP? (oh I am a he yes) I see your points as perfectly valid points, the cobblestone will be getting an overhaul as well as the wood, the planks I think I will divide with vertical lines and see IF that helps, cause I love the look of them but They do need some edge to the, to break it up.
The wool is mine, I was very chuffed with it. I may darken some colours or perhaps do like straw for yellow wool so you can have straw rooves, but nothing too nuts.
thanks so much for the video, its excellent and Im stoked you like the pack and reference it against the greats so much. only thing you should have shown off was iron doors :wink.gif: hahahah.
as I said, if you would like me to add the video to the op as a pack preview I would be honoured if you would let me.
the darkness is my particular style I'm going for. If you like my style but want something lighter you should check out johnsmiths pack, its stunning and leagues ahead (in talent and completeness) of mine.

I honestly never use iron doors so I never actually know when people texture them :tongue.gif: . I wouldn't protest one bit if you put it into the OP. You can remove it once someone bigger, and better does a cover of it :smile.gif: .
I can't wait for the next update. I remember you talking about adding smoother smooth stone which would be awesome. Out of the couple of things I pointed out I'd say the cobble was the one that I thought could use a change. But tiling is something every pack has problems with. Most only get to fixing it once everything else is done. Its really a small thing to point out. Which probably goes to show how good the pack looks for it being this early in its development.
...you know, I am really insanely jealous of you right now. People just seem to be tripping over themselves to comment on your pack. You don't even have to talk to yourself to bump your thread, which is what I end up doing a lot of the time. :sad.gif:
But anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I drooled when I saw your iron door. I don't know whether to bow down in worship or curse you for putting out something very similar to what I'm already working on behind the scenes (although yours looks much better). *Goes off to change textures to avoid accusations of copying*

Well to update you I have just completed glowstone and fixed wood planks to look, well personally i wont say amazing (but amazing they look) I will be working towards 0.6 today and hopefully will get a look in at cobble to see If I can improve what I have or make something better.
also I will get on to putting that video in ... *goes to work out how to embed video files.

Oh by the sounds of things your pack is going to be great. and I am stoked how much people are enjoying this, its wonderful!
Why thank you muchly Qugr, I wasnt sure about the cactus, but this eases my head hahah.
I think I will be slowy darkening it. Or perhaps will have a few alternate darker textures, not sure as of just yet :smile.gif:
