Quite frankly I was unsure of whether I desired creating this thread, due to the belief
that many will not understand the importance of it, but after considerable thought,
I have come to a conclusion that this can very well act as an easily accessible source
to those craving a new pack, to enjoy, popular or unknown, detailed or simple, realistic or
basic, specifically filling out the interests of said user.
Also instead of being a bother to texture creators, I will look into comprising
the necessary tools and resources that will dramatically effect your minecraft
experience, possibly being the cause of a problem.
The following thread will, in the near future, be more fully developed to comprise in depth
texture analyses and reviews that can easily act as a guide and resource to all users either (A)
curious of that just right texture for them or (:cool.gif: wanting to provide a description or summary
of a newly discovered texture that appeals[ed] to their interest. Below is an outline of a desirable texture review, in which I,
with the help of others will expand upon it's containments and put into the main text of this thread:
-"Texture Pack Title" by "Texture Pack Author"
- [Keywords that summarize the style of the pack (Realistic, Simple, Cartoony, etc.)]
- [Minecraft update functionality (ie, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8)]
- [Suggestions]
- [Paragraph description of texture pack (With included summary of pack's style, suggestions
for improvement
Do's and Dont's
I. DO: Provide an unbiased texture review, evaluating the many parts of a created texture
pack overhaul, with suggestions for improvement, stressing both the strengths and weaknesses
of stated texture pack.
II. DO: Mention problems you are having with a texture pack that have an unknown cause
to you and said texture pack author.
III. DON'T: Develop a review for a pack created by yourself. Seriously, you would not only
be disregarding the importance of this thread, but completely be overlooking the rationality
of this whole working resource.
IV. DON'T: Degrade a person's work intentionally, without providing helpful
suggestions for improvement and stating the positive aspects of that described work.
At this current state in time I strongly ask for all reading this thread to describe your thoughts on
whether this so called "database", in your perspective" would provide as a rational, beneficial and
helpful resource to all texture pack users. With included comment please decide on an answer to the poll above. If you have any questions on the exact use of this page and it's future containments,
please comment and I will gladly respond to them as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience *hopefully you read the full thingamabob :dry.gif:* and I look forward
to receiving input on the possible effectiveness of this thread.
PS: if you get a chance, take some time to check out the UTAC or UnwantedTextureAdoptionCenter, where all of your unwanted textures can find a home!
Wow! That terrain file looks awesome; is the pack hand-drawn/painted?
I'm going to go with a yes to that for the sake of showing the detailed
reviews i'm somewhat looking for.
Fantasy Bloom by imnumberfour
- 32x32, hand-painted, mystical, HD
- Terrain file updated to 1.7 with some mobs complete.
- Flowers, wheat, breaking animation are truly top notch.
- Overall Fantasy Bloom flows extremely well. Each texture fits in with each other and
with it's hand-painted look it marks at one of the few unique 32x32 packs. Personally i'm not the
greatest fan of the grass. And that's a pretty important texture. Personally I look at it as somewhat
*veiny* and while that isn't an accurate description of the look of it, it can be improved a bit.
Possibly you can bring out the side grass a bit more which may contribute to exposing
the dirt's uniqueness. Presenting a hand-painted, mystical feel, Fantasy Bloom, shows off
the true glory of minecraft as it's uniqueness as an overall game.
Fantasy Bloom by imnumberfour
- 32x32, hand-painted, fantasy, HD
- Terrain file updated to 1.7 with some mobs complete.
- Flowers, Glow stone, Sugar Cane are all great!
- Overall Fantasy Bloom is a great pack with just a few small problems. The grass texture seems plain and too dark to fit in well, and the water and lava seem to complicated for the rest of the textures. Coal also looks odd to me, it looks like a crystal. Maybe these could be improved.
- I would play with this pack and recommend it. Its a great texture pack, but those few problems need to be fixed before I call it a 5 star pack.
If a texture pack gets reviewed, and then gets a major update, can it be re-reviewed?
Yes it can. The main goal of this thread is to get people into a more or less discussion
on everyone's thoughts on various artist's textures. If anyone seems interested in
reviewing a pack they newly discovered or found themself enjoying, by all means
review it...
Great review on iamnumberfour's texture pack, Fantasy Bloom.
Virtualcraft by animejunkey54
- 16x16, Unrealistic pack with a feel similar to that of the 64x texture, Troncraft (Rezcraft)
- Pack updated to 1.7, with the exception of minecarts and boats.
- Simple pack that isn't extremely damaging on the eyes.
- Overall i'm not the biggest fan of so called "intergalactic packs", but you managed to keep
it relatively simple, using basic colors. While I doubt that a pack like this would appeal to
the hardcore "minecraftaneer" (Made up word :wink.gif:), for all of those users looking into
finding that unrealistic, space-feely, low resolution texture, Virtualcraft is not a bad
choice...
Interesting pack animejunkey!
And just to clarify it is somewhat a universal thing, this texture reviewing thread. So
I'm obviously not going to be able to review everyone's pack, just those I like, but for the sake
of time in this thread's history, i'll be reviewing the first few packs.
To be honest, I don't see how this would be all that useful and I doubt people will take the time to read an entire review or look for a texture pack based on the review of a single random person. A review, as the one you've posted, would only really help the original author if he's looking to improve the pack.
The only thing anyone would use to identify a texture pack as appealing to their taste is a screenshot really. Think about it this way, would you read a review saying something like "this is a good pack, it tile well, it looks good, etc. etc. etc." and then think, wow, that sounds great I'm going to go try it or would you look at one or more screenshot and make a decision from there.
I like your intent, but it's not well executed and I just don't think it's going to be helpful. If I would have to guess, i would say this might get popular if enough people care enough to just state their thoughts about their favorite textures or something like that.
Sure. I actually discovered your pack through the customizer and really enjoy some of the
textures...
KabPack by kabonos
- 16x16, medieval, customizable pack.
- Updated to 1.7, with full functionality on http://www.minecraftcustomizer.net/view.php?pack=KabPack
- If I can say, your GUI is probably one of the top ones I've seen. Not just for 16x16, but
all together. I absolutely also love the fact that your pack is featured on the newly developed
customizer site. It truly gives users the chance to express their specific interests.
- Your pack is truly superb and all the textures really go together well. Personally my
favorite texture is the water. It's not an easy thing to create water and lava flowing animations, but
you managed to complete that battle. I think there is room for improvement with the physical ore
shapes, and it seems you've messed around with them. Overall KabPack seems to be a delightful
low resolution pack that seems to maintain a medieval looking feel. Well done!

Thanks for giving some input Lilyo. As stated in the main text of the thread, it's an idea i've been thinking
about. About what this so called "minecraft community" truly needs. We already have great texture artists
and kind individuals like yourself, with whom take time to organize all of the top packs on the forums in a
universal, texture pack central.
None the less, I don't really want to let this die off. It's not the worst of ideas and I think
that it might be beneficial to the newly spawned to show off their first textures. On another note
I might end up posting some general rules of the forums that seem to be misread and overlooked in
the big, bold thread, stating "MUST READ" on the top of page 1 of the site.
Thanks again for the input, especially considering your "high status"
on the forums".

Any ideas of what the texture pack forums need?
I would say go out and find the people who do reviews out on the internet and ask them to participate in your project by submitting updates to your topic, be it a synopsis and link for a blog, or embedded video. The people on this forum aren't too big on reviewing, in my experience. You could do your part by maintaining an alphabetical listing of packs with links to their reviews. Also, sorting the shoddy reviews from real ones.
haha, I don't have any "high status" here, I just wanted to be honest about the whole thing. It'd be a shame if you end up putting a lot of work into this and not get any results out of it. What does the community need? I dunno, it needs whatever it decides it needs, and if you decide this would help, who am I to say otherwise? We each do what we think we must do.
This a great idea, and I would also appreciate it if you were to review my pack as you seem to be quite honest and detailed in your reviews, and I need that since the most detailed responses I get are, "It's nice"
that many will not understand the importance of it, but after considerable thought,
