Ever since the Halloween update introduced Biomes, the world of Minecraft has been shifting from bright colors and verdant greens to desaturated, drab hues, and those of us lucky enough to have played the early versions of the game have been having our worlds slowly drained of color. It doesn't have to be like this, though. Not with the Minecraft Alpha Pack.
The Minecraft Alpha pack reintroduces those cheery colors that Mojang has been slowly removing, getting rid of Biome-specific colors and reintroducing classic textures to the game.
Minecraft, as it appears with Fancy graphics.
The game with Fast graphics. Birch and Pine leaves are slightly darker so as to provide a distinction between the two.
From left to right: Furnace, Cobblestone, Bricks, Piston (Retracted), Piston (Extended), Sticky Piston, Regular Leaves, Pine Leaves
The texture for the piston is based on the original texture for the Piston mod by Hippoplatimus.
The texture for the sticky piston is changed to reflect the original, which was entirely gold. Due to the way Sticky pistons are textured in the game, it would be impossible to recreate the original texture without modding the game's code.
Bricks and Cobblestone were reverted back to their pre-1.7 textures and Furnaces now have the original smooth stone top.
Long grass was modified to blend with grass blocks.

Wow, nice idea! I'm not that disappointed with the new textures for cobble, pistons, brick, etc. But I know some people are and would like this pack, and I too agree that the old cobble was better for buildings (in my opinion).
1 Suggestion though, I'm aware you can't change the whole piston for sticky or non, but I think the entire head should be gold on a sticky piston if you're going for the mod look. Other than that, good idea.

Dang, i was JUST thinking of doing this for my own personal use! but i couldent find any of the old alpha terrain.png's any where.
Thank you much!
The only thing i would suggest tweaking is the sticky piston.. sorry, but it looks kinda weird :smile.gif:
Maybe make the entire front panel gold... or put the same green slime texture from real default onto it.
I would make the front panel of the sticky piston gold, but I can't make the entire head gold because the very front panel is the only thing about the sticky piston that's different (and thus it's the only thing you can change). I'll work on it though, it does look a bit weird.
EDIT: I placed the gold block texture in the center of the sticky piston head so it would reflect the original better. The download is updated too.
The download link gives me a 404 error. But I will download this, I miss alpha and what few screenshots of pre-Halloween update make me all nostalgic. Very nice work, my good sir.
Really sorry for the bork'd download link guys, Dropbox deleted the file for some reason. I uploaded my backup (the one in my texture pack folder) to Mediafire so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.
You did click the one in the first post, not the quoted one right?
Also, Since nothing added in 1.8 was changed from its original texture, when you load up this pack the game will just substitute in the existing textures for anything it doesn't find, e.g. Endermen or Stone Bricks. Essentially there's nothing for me to update.

EDIT: DERP, Still need to update the terrain.png

I haven't used this pack before but I feel nostalgic for 2010 Minecraft so I'm going to try it after you update.

Think I will be on here often? Haha no.
