Okay so, I want to make my own texture pack but I have absolute NO idea how to start. I'd use the search but I'm lazy :tongue.gif:. Any tips would be VERY appreciated!
Just open your minecraft.jar and open terrain.png in photoshop and start going at it, Beware I lost like an hour on making a texture pack that was completely terrible so make sure you have plenty of time
It's kind of hard to give you tips if you yourself have no idea what you want to make. Perhaps think of a theme and people can help from there :wink.gif:
Use Paint.net it is the best thing, totally easy, and I use it to make and edit all the texture packs I have. Just a suggestion, a lot of texture packs don't edit the paintings or the animals. I mainly look for texture packs that have different paintings and animals. Lol just in fact, I was looking for a texture pack to use for good paintings when I stumbled along your post :biggrin.gif:

Have you checked mine out? I redid the entire art pack.
I plan on reskinning the mobs but haven't gotten to it yet.

My advice, don't worry too much about originality, although it's odd, alot of people have similar textures, but if they have differences and are all done well, they all get popular.
Be inspire by other texture packs, and make one with a similar theme.

I would think a good place to start is finding what resolution you want to use.
It's not a lot of good editing the standard terrain.PNG if you are looking for something with a resolution higher than 16x16.
Following DarkFuzions post is good advice and he is definitely right when he says it will take plenty of time.
I have been working on mine for months and I started where someone else left off! lol
A checklist of things to consider:
What resolution?
How much time do you have to put to this?
Do you have a good image editing program. You should use one that can handle transparency . (I use Photoshop)
What level of skill do you have with the chosen program?
Are you looking to use it for you and select friends or are you considering uploading for the community?
Would you start from the ground up or slowly edit someone else's?
If you feel comfortable with your answers to these questions then I would say you're ready to start a texture pack!
If you want any further help/advice, let me know.
I also am looking for a few more tips...I am guessing I have a tiny more experience as I have edited MANY packs recently and not so recently. I am looking to make my own 32x, but I do not know how to make a pack a higher resolution. ( I use Gimp AND Photoshop, both have differences that the others don't).
