The way I did it was to open the original file in paint (yes, paint) then to scale it up 400x, and copy it back into my image editing program. I then manually removed the white background (which really only takes a few seconds using the magic wand tool).
I already tried this and got it wrong, now the items i played around with are missing parts cause there arent any clear borders that i could use and it wouldnt be 64x64 either.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
I'm going to guess that you mean that your items are missing portions from being incorrectly positioned. If that is the case, then it's simply a question of moving it until it is correctly positioned. The items.png is separated into 16x16 pixel squares. Each of these squares contains one item. By scaling the image up by 400x, you extend these to 64x64 pixels per square.
I got it right now, at first i had problems finding the exact position of the fields but with a lil testing i found them and then i just made em 400x bigger. With photoshop tho :biggrin.gif:
