This is the beginnings of my future texture pack, Opulent, in 64x64 resolution. Let me know what you think so far, and hopefully I can improve. (These are four stacked blocks, not a single block; in case you didn't already notice.)
Stone
Cobble
Coal
Iron
Gold
Redstone
Diamond
Any and all input is more than appreciated.
EDIT: The above textures are old. Here are the (somewhat) official ones:
(Also, mind answering my question on page 2? Thank you!)
I think people were just thrown off thinking they were looking at a single block. The fact that the tiling isn't noticable is a compliment. The stone and cobble look good, and the ores are off to a good start. I'm not sure what style the pack is supposed to be in, but the ores do look kind of cartoon like. Maybe that's intended.
I would change the ore of the redstone to be less brown. That one and the iron look to have the texture underneath showing through, but maybe that's just because I can't really see the detail that well from the screenshots.
I would keep what you have, put some work in on the grass, dirt, and sand and put up some landscape shots to show a better feel for what style this is supposed to be in.

Will do, sir; thank you very much.
Oh, and to answer your question, it is a somewhat cartoon-esque texture pack; the grass, sand, dirt, etc. are actually not mine, they are Misa's (just using his terrain.png as a placemat for my textures).
mm the fact everyone thought it was a single block, not 4 blocks, is indeed a compliment. Great tiling, bravo. Keep up the good work - I prefer more interesting ores, but that's my style.
Once more, thanks for all of the input; valuable insight has been attained, insight that I will inevitably utilize to further enhance these textures. I'm denoting this to be a serious WIP, and will post again following the... erm... polishing.
I really like this. Definitely works with the "opulent" theme. I can't wait to see all the man-made textures in this style.

Say, does anyone have any recommendations as to how I should go about editing the grass? I'm aware that it needs to be on a grayscale, but does it need to be an exact color scheme or fixed hue? Also, i've noticed that some people have alteration in grass colors (biome specific, and likewise); how do I go about doing this? Is there a file for editing the grass colors, and how would I go about editing that?
Sorry for the numerous questions, just want to ensure I don't mess this up...
It's very simple, there's this grasscolor.png that is being used to give the grass a certain hue, so say, if you don't make your grass greyscale, but pink, it'd be a fugly colour that nobody likes because it'd be pink + green.
So you can, as example, give it orange bits for a mix of orange in it.
There's no fixed "this is how to else it will fail and everything will explode and die and implode and things in such fasion".
That said, I add a very slight tinge of various colors on my grass (and especially foliage) textures to make it a wee tad more vibrant. It doesn't hurt to use a little color, just remember what colors the overlay is.

EDIT: rseah brings up a very good point; those are 4 blocks stacked, not a single block. Just wanted to clarify.

EDIT: Here's the PNG file for the ores, just for kicks, I suppose... thought they looked pretty good? :unsure.gif:

Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion! Maybe i'll work on spicing them up a bit.
Thank you!
Oh, and yes; ":smile.gif:" relativity is understandable.
Thank you sir! Makes the effort all-the-more worthwhile. :biggrin.gif:
