In my opinion, TSR is the be all and end all of pixel art out there. If you can impress them, your art is good. They can be a little harsh though. Especially if you try to avoid constructive criticisms.
Resolution 16x or HD (32x and above)?
64x no higher ever!, you'd have to kill me 128x e.g Sanguine looks fine and dandy in a new world surrouned by just dirt, grass & water but anytjing else makes it look ridiculos e.g Wheat, sapling
Super-cartoony (Frenden), semi-cartoony (Doku), or realistic?
Super-cartoony is to pastlely for me mostly it draws away from minecraft by making it all bright, if notch wanted it that bright he would of made it that bright. i go with semi-real leaning toward realistic so it looks like a pixelated/scaled down not corny! version of real life (with some imagination) not some bright green blob thats meant to be grass.
Highly detailed, or simple and 'smooth'? Remixes? Total originality?
With this question i think "Highly Detailed should be Nosiey and Bold"
i like smooth textures with detail in other words you have an area of atraction on your block/main feature and a smooth background NOT plasticiene smooth just smooth like an apple skin and rough/shiny bits on the skin.
Remixes are totally ok if they 1. Arent knockoffs with no work done just got the resize rool and spliced it woth another pack and calling them stupid names e.g (made up) Halosuncraft DokuChesseBall or some overused cliche minecraft texture pack name. 2.Have the pack owners permission to use them so you dont have to take it down ans from stoping this happening That new post could be blocking an important topic or thread that wont get taken down.. Think before you poat 3. That you give them bloddy credit.
My texture actually borrows 7 textures from friend of mine Enji just becuase his are so awesome i credit him in the second para and at the end. Inspiration is great becuase your combining other peoples ideas to create a better one so total originality isnt always tge best but it can be a refresher when not enough differebt styles come out People should try to build on and improve on other peoplea pack thats what i did with mine changed the ore blocks to look 3d and more lustre, smooth shine whilst brightening them up a bit
What kind of themes are you interested in? RPG, fantasy, sci fi, old-world, other themes I can't think of at the moment?
RPG and contemporary themend packs. I dont know what the theme for my Texture Pack Indifference is but its also what im into, the sort of different atmospheres packs
Do you not like themes? Yes!! and everything has a theme even if you dont try you hopefully try to make it look nice not ugly thats your theme just like every books has one
Natural cobble or brick?
It can be both in real life so i like both as natural adds a certain feel, its a word that cant be expressed easily and i cant now. It can only be understood and brick cobble adds a developed feel tothe game so no suprise that notch is using a brick one for of the new dugeons textures aswell as mossy brick cobble and a bit of natural ones.
Dark wood or light?
Not really understanding this Qs but if you mean the orginal wood not snow wood or birch wood, then a darkish colour like Cadburys choclate dark as the defualt balsa wood colour for the game makes wood look snappable, rippable, breakable and cheap.

When I started this thread a month ago, I didn't intend the list of questions to be a literal check list-- it was meant to encourage people to speak out about all the things they like/don't like in texture pack, or what their preferences were.
But thank you anyway for the detailed feedback. :smile.gif:
16x or HD (32x and above)? i like meh hd (32x, just 32) :tongue.gif:
Super-cartoony (Frenden), semi-cartoony (Doku), or realistic? Semi. Doku, doriangrey's etc.
Highly detailed, or simple and 'smooth'? Detailed, ive attempted to make a smooth pack...didnt turn out so well
Remixes? Total originality? Originality
What kind of themes are you interested in? RPG, fantasy, sci fi, old-world, other themes I can't think of at the moment? Do you not like themes? hmmmm....probably a tie between RPG and fantasy
16x or HD (32x and above)?
I prefer 16x and 32x only. Anything above people misuse and has WAY too much noise and Minecraft does not feel like Minecraft anymore. I hate it. I hate it so much, when somebody makes a 256x256 texture pack and its just images from google resized and ****. It looks like garbage. YET PEOPLE STILL LIKE IT. WTF?
Highly detailed, or simple and 'smooth'?
In the middle. Just because of all these 1 color 30 second texture packs that require no skill at all and people post no pictures of, they made the simple and smooth style ****. When I see a good "smooth" texture pack though, Its relieving, that the texture pack community doesn't have a huge learning curve.
Remixes? Total originality?
Total originality. Remixes suck. I hate them. Remixes aren't original, takes the authors work, and uses it to make content. SMH. Whenever I see ANY remix pack, I groan and go into the thread to see if anything is even remotely changed. And half the time, it isn't.
What kind of themes are you interested in? RPG, fantasy, sci fi, old-world, other themes I can't think of at the moment? Do you not like themes?
RPG, Fantasy, and whatever theme the default textures are.
Natural cobble or brick?
Natural. Brick is brick and cobblestone is cobbled stone.
Dark wood or light?
Light wood, because logs are darker and contrasting so lighter wood looks a lot better when using logs in a building.
Etc, etc, etc. When playing Minecraft on PvP servers, or survival, I use Sheep Pack. But when I'm on a creative server with my buddies I use the VoxelBox Pangea. :tongue.gif:
16x or HD (32x and above)? I like HD, but a few 16 too for less lag
Super-cartoony (Frenden), semi-cartoony (Doku), or realistic? Texture packs from any of those styles, as long as they're original and look great
Highly detailed, or simple and 'smooth'? Again, both.
Remixes? Total originality? Remixes sure are interesing, but I like original ones more.
What kind of themes are you interested in? RPG, fantasy, sci fi, old-world, other themes I can't think of at the moment? Do you not like themes? I like RPG, fantasy, modern, realistic and colorful types of texture packs.
Natural cobble or brick? Natural cobble, as long as it looks great
Personally I have no preference in resolution. I use anything from 16x - 128x. I would use something higher but I haven't found a pack that high that looks good. When I first started playing Minecraft I actually stayed away from texture packs all together. Then I started using painterly for a bit but always came away unsatisfied. However, at the time, I couldn't find an HD pack that I liked, for some reason I kept running across things like Misa's and LB's realism or "copies" of those. I DO NOT like realistic packs. A realistic texture slapped on a unrealistic block looks horrid.
Then I found Bordercraft. When I first played Borderlands I feel in love with the art style. Being a prospective game animator myself it appealed to me greatly. And so I started using Bordercraft. However I found that there were some things I didn't like. I tend to build with planks rather than cobblestone and I didn't like how the planks looked. They were to bright. Also, I really, really don't like the cobbled glowstone look that is popular in a lot of packs (including the default). So I started looking for something else.
I then ran across Ornate. The detailed stunned me. The texture pack screams "A LOT OF WORK WAS PUT INTO THIS PACK!!" and to me that is one of the most appealing things. This is also why I like Bordercraft. I still use both of them frequently. But, again, I was not 100% satisfied with Ornate. It is a bit to dark sometimes (though, apparently I need a new monitor as well) and it was hard to tell the difference between bedrock and smooth stone.
After perusing the forums a bit more I decided to create my own pack and Impressions was born. While still a work in progress I have received some decent feedback on my work. One thing I have discovered is that, for the most part, they only way a new texture pack artist will attract LARGE crowds of users is if one of the older more popular packs becomes unsupported. It seems that at this moment, the only people looking for new texture packs are the ones who are dissatisfied with the existing ones and are most likely looking for something specific. Granted, I may be totally wrong, but that seems to be the way things are.

Retired Staff...TSR? Is that some sort of company?
It stands for "The Spriter's Resource". XD
