Wow, thanks for the work on Buildcraft! What you've done so far really looks wonderful and fits with this texture pack.
Since Buildcraft and Industrial Craft machines are both things built by players and never found in the world (and both rely on advanced items crafted by the player from rare resources), you have to strike a balance between grunge and high-tech. We're salvaging gearboxes and melting away the cheaper metal components to get at the gears themselves, but most IC devices require you to smelt the 'gears' (read: iron) again to get "refined iron". I think of that as actually smelting the gears down so I can build full-fledged machines instead of just scavenged stuff. It's fine to just have gears around for all of the vanilla stuff. For example, when I got my 'salvaged drill' it was actually an iron pickaxe I made by mining iron ore and smelting to iron ingots. But in Last Days terms you could think of it as one I salvaged in an abandoned/broken down H.I.V.E., or one I built out of salvaged parts in that manner, and that's why it's single-use instead of rechargeable like the Industrial Craft drill. On the other hand, making an IC macerator, generator, or shall we say mass fabricator requires smelting the gears down into raw iron I can shape into a solid electronic machine rather than a series of gear mechanisms. Anyway, it should look less salvaged, but remember that we're in post-apocalyptia and even things we build ourselves shouldn't look shiny, even if they're futuristic. Lack of a big enough civilization can really deal a sharp blow to metallurgical tech.
Oh, and sorry I haven't been keeping up with the thread this week. I just found a new Industrial Craft + Buildcraft server to play on. Anyone who is willing to use those mods and treat trees as aluminum scrap shacks (and wood as aluminum) is welcome to join me in building H.I.V.E. 32 there :biggrin.gif:
mc.player.to
Just use the nether portal near spawn (entrance at -136,-102) and go to the nether coordinates 61,61. Use the portal there and follow the torches north to my house. H.I.V.E. 32 hasn't been constructed yet, but check out the hole behind my house. That's where my branch mine is, and that doorway leading into a sort of 4x4 room is where I'm gonna build the piston-controlled hermetic seal :smile.gif:
i love what you're saying, it's the facts on it. the trees are self-replicating robots. so the default trees in Custmizer is suppose to be alumnium stuff too. I do appreciate it that way as well, and the top texture looks better then anything for floors and ceiling, rather then other text packs.

Yeah, I didn't like the old scrap shacks when I first got and tried out the pack, but that's because I hadn't found/read the lore and didn't know what they were supposed to be. I thought it was just supposed to be a texture for player-built wooden houses to make them look like rotten wood planks or something. Since I play a lot of new worlds, I didn't like the look of the trees everywhere until I realized what they were supposed to be.
I really like my foliagecolor and grasscolor, but they're for a texture pack made by/for a private server, so I can't edit and redistribute them. If anyone has a nice-looking one with shades of more than just green that is distributed freely, I'd be happy to desaturate and brighten it so biome leaf block colours are still greyish but have a bit of washed-out colour to them (either for faded paint or for less healthy-looking leaves).
Meanwhile, I'm busy working on a pair of 12-button combination lock controllers (just like cell phone buttons) for H.I.V.E. 32. The one inside the base can reset the code used to open the door, and the one outside can be used just like dialing a phone number to enter a keycode and get access past the sealed entry. While I'm working out the redstone for that, check out how a large wooden house looks in vanilla, then how it changes in this texture pack:
Also a couple pictures of an unfortunate Huggatron 2 that tried to ambush a visitor from the OI portal behind my house. And yes, I know having everything 'wood plank' texture looks bland, but do you have any idea how many stacks of aluminum siding it took to make this house? My character is fortunate to have this much going for him in post-apocalyptia to begin with! I'll replace all the walls with 'birch' once I have a fully automated tree farm running. (Yes, it's possible to do that in Buildcraft, muahaha!)
Just little w.i.p of the leather armor that I am trying to draw. So far seems helmet is done.
It's supposed to be ncr ranger from fallout:nv cover.
maybe iron armor, leather armor CANNOT be that coo.
A military-grade armor originally used by L.A.P.D. riot squads, this combat outfit is typically worn with a matching military helmet with built-in low light optics, a combination IR/white light lamp and gas mask[1]. It is traditionally worn with the Desert Rangers style duster (with the NCR Rangers' insignia on the left flap) and a set of rodeo jeans.
so they wear cloth and leather with it, but not made of it the armor is.... (yoda)

I heart this texture pack. So much. :biggrin.gif:
if you check the orginal post doku made it's int he op about the trees, the pack asn't even 25% done, it was a cope out for the trees, he used the same wood texture, which i'm sure he's proud of. at best, i could use the infinite repeating wood texture for planks and the orginal for trees, or the turned sideways ones.
also help me make the textures biome shading compatable. i cannot doit, i don't understand at all :/
I'm quite happy with thoes pics, they show such a contrast in worlds. I'll try to use them asap.
I had an absolutely wonderful vacation! I traveled all over Brazil, met with most of my relatives, and saw some friends. And even though I had an incredible time in Brazil, I'm glad to be back! :smile.gif:
I can see that the thread has been bustling while I was away and I would like to thank everyone that has supported Last Days while I was gone. I would also like to give a special thanks to HalphPrice for taking care of the thread and his hard work on the customizer. Speaking of which, sorry HalphPrice! I forgot to add a link to the customizer before I left. :ohmy.gif: My bad!
To those of you wondering why this post is so short, I haven't read the posts I missed yet! So I will do that now. Keep in mind that I have just gotten back from my vacation, there are pages of posts, and I have been traveling for 12 hours, so please don't get cranky if I'm not able to respond to everything today. I'll try my best to read everything though! :wink.gif:
Oh and here is a little something I threw together really quick to get used to photoshop again. Its the "title screen". Just make a folder called "title" and stick this in there (file should be named mojang.png).

everyones been doing everything to cover the questions, we got another guy helping the mod for BuildCraft, I'm doing CTM now, and more alt arts, I got a loose backstorey done up, and am going to do more with that.
waiting for 1.8 until I start to THINK of making a server..
like a month and a half till full release of minecraft, I'm planning on doing a whole new sound pack after 1.8 as well, just an alt sound pack..
no updates, so things have been slow.
Oh, and we're done the pack, there was help by others to get it completed, and every texture is done. WIP is 100% in triplicate pretty much.
just need to talk about how to promote last days more...4
nice title, didn't think you could do it in high res, can you do a tree top to the wood texture. a natural one, for the people that want real trees with the grass and clean water version... i can't i did a circle ring thingy, but it's not doing it for me.
Buildcraft support here. I said I was going to do the filler next, but hey, I lied. Been working on textures for the pipes. Almost done with them, though I am having trouble with an idea for gold pipes. Will post as soon as I am finished...

Okay, I'm now caught up on all 9 (?) pages of Doku's original thread, all 105 (!) pages of History's thread, and all 26 pages of this one.
Yeah, I've read all the lore. I didn't originally like the scrap shacks, but forcing myself to use the texture and think of them as rotted shacks used by surface-dwellers who couldn't get into the cocoons has made me fonder of them :3

Glad you like the pics! I'll have better ones when I've done some 'renovation' (read: construction) on H.I.V.E. 32 on that server.
To make textures biome shading compatible, you just have to leave them completely grey like the vanilla grass/leaf textures are, then add the shades you want into foliagecolor and grasscolor (Last Days ones are pure white or something on that side, so no different biome textures). You'll see in those pictures of my house that the grass has a very subtle colour to it, but the trees have a lot of red and green shades (washed out enough they don't stand out too much against the rest of the saturated Last Days textures). Perhaps after my work week is over I'll play around with the vanilla biome shaders to show you an example of what I mean.
yeah a retro fridge would be awesome, and this is from my phone so i cant really reply correctly.
So i finally figured out how to correctly use MCEdit and the map will be worked on much more now
oh and does anyone know of a mod that adds friendly npc's like civilians? i dont want them to build anything. just walk around and make it look like a town is populated and all.
