Why does your stuff always look better than mine??
Anyway, I REALLY love it-- it just looks like we took two different approaches. I went the 'native' route, and you went the 'Indiana jones explorer' route. I'll definitely make it an alternate, though. BTW, how did you make the scratchy lines on the pieces of paper? That's what I was trying to go for, but it didn't turn out so well...
Here you go. And that was exactly what I was going for, a sort of explorer set up.
It would be awesome if you made two versions of the pack later on, themed around those two things.
Anyways, I made them simply by picking a sort of "scratchy" brush, then just pretending I was sketching those boxes in as I would in real life. Sort of difficult with a mouse, but it works.

Thanks.
I'm masochistic, so I probably WILL end up making two versions. XP
Actually, I'm finding that the conflict of themes is really quite a problem-- do I design the items/textures to represent what the natives would have, or what the explorers would have? So I'll probably end up with two weapons/tools/GUI versions.
Any suggestions on what to do for the diamond sword?
So far I have the wooden sword as a club, the stone sword as one of the cool Aztec swords with the rocks embedded in the sides, and the iron sword as a spanish relic (conquistadors, and all that). I was thinking of perhaps making the golden sword a sacrificial dagger, but that leaves me with nothing to do for the diamond sword. Should I make the golden sword an old gun (which has run out of bullets, leaving you to simply bash monsters over the head with it) and make the diamond sword a sacrificial dagger (one hit KO!)?
Then make the diamond sword like those aztec swords, only incrusted diamonds, instead of rocks.
Hmm...that's a cool idea, but I'll probably have to use that sickle for the hoe instead of the stone sword. I like the thought of embedded diamonds, though!
But why do the textures need to be 'cleaned up'? And what's wrong with the color palette? I thought that was one of the best parts...
"Polished" would have been more appropriate. For example many of the plants textures miss some shadow at the bottom of the leaves ; same for the iron part of the tools on the workbench ; cactus spines are blurry spots of white ; moss on cobblestone miss shadows and highlights. Such things
Colors might be just a difference in taste or in monitor calibration but for me they are globally too saturated and dark. The contrast between some textures is strange (e.g. Flowers and wool are too bright vs the rest).
Here's a quick touch up, before/after:
Well, the difference is much much less visible than I expected but... yeah, totally useless, except for the flowers.

Cool base!
Anyways, I think it looks fine as it is, although I did notice that the bush flower does look better a little desaturated.

Oh wow, you're right, the flowers DO look a lot better. Thanks for pointing that out.
Did you just darkened and de-saturate, or did you color in some shadows?
I added shadows in and toned down the bright spots. link
Free to use if you want.
Thanks! I'll have to test out the other changed you made.
Unfortunately, I went and jumped the gun (like always) and made my own adjustments. They're in the update I posted last night. Let me know if that fixes it-- I changed some of the other things you mentioned too.
My first post on this forum just to say... WOW!!!!
When I purchased Minecraft I started using Glimmar's Steampunk and indeed I used it a lot; although, after a while, I started searching for something more "bright"...
And This pack is simply AWESOME!!!!
Looking forward to see progress in items and GUI, so far it's wonderfull...
By the way, I really like the idea of a sacrificial dagger as a diamond sword, maybe if the blade is rendered like a single crystal it could be really good...
Wow! Someone who likes my stuff better than Glimmar's! Thanks a lot!

Just spent a good hour or so playing with this pack, and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. For once, a texture pack that doesn't contain either a cobblestone or gravel texture that annoys me, haha. I can't wait to see how the end result turns out. :biggrin.gif:

You have that problem too?! Haha. Nice to know I'm not alone.
Btw, how do you like the brick? Is it what you were looking for?
Yes, I like it very much.
I would really like a straw texture. I thougt it could be as easy as you removing the rope from your sponge texture from your assassini texture pack. but I don't know how it would tile and such,
This is just as an alternative texture, which i will use for the roof of my lover class mayan houses.

Just threw this together. Something like this?
Feel free to use it.

How about a mayan sickle for the stone sword?
