Looks fine to me! I have my own texture pack that just changes a few features that annoy me, but I can't figure out how to make the ice translucent again. I changed glass a bit and it f-ed things up. =(
I appreciate the feedback guys, its really helped me. I've decided to follow the opinionated majority and designate this for another rock (likely bedrock). I'm working on a new cobble texture now, and will post pics as soon as i've finished.
I like it! It doesn't really look like cobblestone, I see it's more of just rough stone. But, that looks just as good as cobblestone imo. And, it doesn't need a hue, that will just make it worse. and if you do use a hue, then just make it just a few color bits off of greyscale, so it's barely visible if at all. Unless Minecraft in your eyes is set in Arizona, don't make the stone red.

I did stress it should be faint. The fact is, in real life, nothing is purely grey. Stone contains traces of iron in many places of the world, and, for all intensive purposes, iron is red. However, it is in such small quantities that it is pointless to try and mine it, and only shows as a very faint colour.
i agree, dont use solid black etc
the pattern is good, but i suggest you to look into the tiling: some stones are cut in half.
the color is much better now, maybe a bit too dark.
And the new cobble... Ech. I don't like it. That might look good for Mossy Cobble, actually. But plain Cobblestone should look a bit more subtle. I think that stands out a little too much. Also, I think maybe you should make it a little bit closer to the stone texture. It is a bit sensitive, as it's one of the most common blocks in the game...
This would look really good as just regular stone imo
It looks like 128x at least from this distance O_o (not viewing pic full size)
But looks really awkward and piexelated up close (that first picture you posted)
Try to blend your colors more and add more hue like others have said
I beg to differ. I agree that just using image filters to add a hue to it would not work, but using a brush tool to add a faint amount of colour to it would work far better.
Also, the default is not really a texture pack, and is also graphically awful in some places.
So, i've begun the process of texturing; am I off to a right start, or will my work just go downhill?
(Cobble):
Tips? Suggestions?
EDIT:
(Single)
(Stacked/tiled)
Grouped (smooth stone)
(Base texture pack is Misa's Realistic, which I take no credit for.)
also, try to give it some color, greyscale is NEVER good for any texture (except the grass etc ofcourse)
Even then, you should draw with colour and drain it afterwards.
Stone looks good with a faint red or purple hue, if you're going for realistic. If you're going for a cartoon style, try something more blue.
"Good enough" isn't good enough if it can be made better ;D
Trust me, try giving it a very faint red hue, and see what happens.
Thanks for your support!

you go search me a good, popular texturepack that uses pure grayscale for any texture.
(Single)
(Double)
I attempted to incorporate as many suggestions as I could, but i'm pretty certain that I overdid the hue...
Avoid colours like solid black and solid white, they can totally ruin otherwise good work.
Alright, I agree with you; third time has to be a charm.

default.
Anywho, it looks good as greyscale. Adding hue wouldn't make it any better.

Well, you have a right to your own opinion, I guess.
Fair point, it's not really a texture pack. Fiftyninecraft, then I say. And I rest my case.
