Hmm, I think you may be right. I'll play with it some more. I'd like to get it to work but if I can't, I'll just accept defeat and move on to making the chests and whatnot.
Alright so right after I say that I'm going to start holding back on releasing screenshots...I start doing textures that require opinions. :mellow.gif:
I started working on my torch and realized how much I hate torches. I tried to make a small lantern that looked nice mounted on a wall as well as sitting on the ground. This is what I came up with.
I took off the flame particles, since I did not want a lantern that had caught fire. I also took off the smoke particles but felt that it was too much and so I put them back. I may take them off again, but I'm a little weary. I'm not sure what else uses smoke particles...I may make a thread to ask.
Hey spirit,
the updates are looking great. I like the new grass and the new frozen block, perhaps just town down the use of gray in the dirt and actually use some browns and just leave the upper edges frozen.
The lanterns look pretty cool, not perfect when they are on a wall, but i kind of like it.
Whee, thanks! Yeah, I'm having a time trying to make a design with the lanterns that skews correctly. I've never had to keep that aspect of design in consideration before so it's proving to be a right headache. :unsure.gif:
I've decided to leave the fire particle out for now. I may play with it some more to figure out if there's a less busy version of fire that I can make, but for now I can't seem to come up with anything. The only things that I've found that use the fire particle are the torches and the lit furnaces.
Anywho, I've updated the main grouped shot of the blocks to reflect newly made things. :smile.gif:
I've created the ladder and the cake (pictured in group shot) which are the only textures that I haven't released detailed photos of.
lookin' good, lookin' good. From the pictures it looks very nice. The lantern is a little off... maybe curve the edges of the square parts? I dunno, but I like how it's not just a torch. Still can't wait...you should release the terrain soon...
This looks amaing.. And also, I think the fire animation, the death of animals and mobs both use the smoke particles. Sooo you may not want to remove them.

They use different smoke particles, as far as I know. I might be wrong, though.

Also, the purple bits that the nether portals suck in, the red "power" coming off redstone wiring, and the explosions made by creepers and tnt...
Yeah, I think I'll keep the smoke particles there. Hopefully I'll find a way that won't make them so smokey. :biggrin.gif: Thanks for all the support guys! I'll try to release the terrain soon so people can get a look at it. I want it to be basically finished though before I do release it so you guys can get the best experience out of it. :happy.gif:
Alright, I've added some more swirly-doos to the lantern(torch) to make the wall-mounted version look less awkward. I think it helped by adding some sort of grounding element that looks like the lantern is mounted on the wall versus just sticking against it at an angle. The iron "wiring" itself is actually a very dark brownish color to go with the rest of the lantern so I've taken two pictures to show what it looks like against different colored background. Against the stone it's sort of difficult to see in a screenshot. Much easier to see when you're walking around in-game. Against sandstone, though, it's much easier to see in a still.
So, I'm working on the water. I finally decided to buck up and just do it. I hate all flowing textures in Minecraft because they're so ridiculously confusing when you're trying to make water look like water. >_<
But, on the other hand, I'm also retexturing all of the water including the rain and the snow! I don't know about anyone else, but one of my biggest beefs about water in nearly every texture pack I've encountered is that the water looks like someone dumped an elephant-sized cannister of blueberry KoolAid into the ocean. I like realistic water which 9 times out of 10 looks more like this:
and not like this:
So that's the look that I'm aiming for in Ashencraft's water. I do hope that it'll be a great alternative for other people out there who, like me, are tired of blueblueblueblue water.
I like the iron on the bottom of the lantern, but the things poking out the side make it feel bulky and bloated rather than the sleek and slender design of your previous lantern. Also love the idea for water.
ladder looks great. as does the cake. Keep up the great work.
also coal still looks flat on the rock and the full diamond block doesnt look nearly as good as your full diamond, iron and gold block in my opinion, I just feel as its the rarest and harder to craft because of that, that perhaps it should be something super decorative or like something that displays this giant diamond you have encased in iron or silver or something.

Hmm, I see what you mean about the lantern. I shall try different arrangements of iron on them. :biggrin.gif:
I do plan on adding a border to the diamond, I just keep forgetting about it since the water is looming over my head like an old aunt that I keep putting off visiting. I'm working on that now though, which:
UPDATE! :biggrin.gif: I've actually FINISHED the moving water! It looks pretty decent, much better than that poop smear that I had implemented before. I searched around on Google and found some neato forums that had some nice free textures to work with. I just couldn't wrap my mind around making moving water from 100% scratch. Anywho, I'm trying to work on the still water now which is even harder than the moving water. How does one make....water that moves but is still? :unsure.gif:

I will figure it out!
Make it glassy and just hint sparkle or tiny tiny ripples so it looks smooooooth. that would be lovely.

So excited for what you are doing with this pack.
I can't wait for the finished texture pack :3

That's what I've been trying to do but it either looks too still or too much like running water. Trying to find a nice medium. >_<
