The new ores look much better although I think that redstone could do with a touch up :tongue.gif:
It looks a bit overloaded with ore at the moment, so maybe tone it down a little bit!
I also think that iron would look better if it was more embedded in the stone. It looks a bit like a sticker at the moment!
yeah the redstone ore could maybe use a little bit more stone, but i like how its kind of dominating, you do get a lot out of it when you mind.
and spirit if you are happy with the diamond then by all means it looks fantastic, I just like to throw my 2c in here and there, but this pack is yours so you should be making it so your happy. Really looking forward to more updates, I'm giddy with excitement that there will be another brilliant 32x32 texture pack out there to gawk at.
Updated with new screenshots of sand, water, and mossy cobblestone!
My plans for water are to have it clear (not blue). I'd like to have lots of lighting and texture, but have it look semi-realistic in that it won't look like someone dumped a truckload of blue dye into the sea, but still have little enough texture so that it doesn't crowd the small 32x32 space that I chose to work with.
And about the redstone: I have removed the glowy bit around the redstone, it didn't turn out as I had planned unfortunately. I may yet resize the big red parts but I was thinking along the lines of what Dorian said: you get a lot of redstone when you mine! I wanted it to seem like it was taking the block over, without the block being completely covered.
By dark I mean just a darker looking texture pack. Kind of like a rainy day where there is less contrast and less vibrancy. Similar to dokucrafts dark version.

Do you know when there will be a download?
And yes! That's precisely one reason why I created this pack! I loved the darker versions of things in Doku's pack, so my pack will reflect that idea somewhat. I may even release several versions for people who like a little more contrast, but still darkness and then a pack for people who like dull, low contrast packs. :smile.gif:
I really have no ETA for the download at the moment. I'm working on this by myself. I will attempt to release a beta version that includes only the terrain textures (default Minecraft textures for everything else) so that people can take a peek and decide if they want to continue following the progression or not (as well as point out bugs/ugly things/etc). You can look for that beta pack probably within the next week as long as nothing comes up that would change my schedule.
Looks good so far! I'm really looking forward to the finished product. However, the leaves seem a bit off, or at least the fast ones.
The sides seem a bit barren, specifically the bottom side in the image, and the edge of the block doesn't seem to match up. I'd like to see it more full, and the two sides to match up a bit better.
Other than that, I'm loving the dark feel to it. Again, I can't wait until this is finished.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Please learn how to use google. My grandfather knows how to, I think you can too.
Ah! I see what you mean with the leaves. I had planned on touching them up (there's a spot on the left side of the block that looks like an apple that I saw a little while ago o_O) so I will fill in the leaves more as well! :biggrin.gif:
UPDATE!
Added screenshots of newly created Glass, Netherrack, (New)Sponge, Gravel, and Obsidian!
I'm back from work for the day, time to hit the critique part of my brain before it shuts off.
the ores - looking great now, redstone is much better and gold looks great now (there may be a little much of it for some people but I love it)
the actual stone behind the ores is still not blending right, I think this is because the cracks and line in the stone don't bend and mould to fit the ores embedded in them, it could be something to look at improving the quality of them down the line, they already look great, I just think that would make them A++ quality.
Oh and I hadn't noticed bedrock... um, I'm not a huge fan, but I'm not sure what you're going for with it. As I have just carved out a massive cavern that has flat bed rock floor in it the bed rock you have my really dampen my spirits, I think stick with a more stone type look, or if you're going a bit more creative make it dragon scales or something (again this is just my opinion)
mossy stone- looks good for the first rendition, perhaps some darker shadows on the lower side (much like your side grass) and some highlights along the top to give it more depth, even some roots or something to give it more character, its just a touch dull but they were the only things I could put my finger on. Also I would love to see a rendition in your style of a more creative block like doku did, but only if you find time.
sand and water - sand is a bit to evenly waved I think, a slightly more random pattern I think would suit it better rather than consistently the same waves perhaps vary them in the length of the waves or the height of the curves that the waves have.
The water could possibly be a little more dense its a tad see-through, but I like the originality in it so well done there.
sponge and logs - I'm really liking the logs, the pine might be a fraction too dark, but you are doing for a dark pack so I understand that, I just feel its losing a fair bit of that lovely pine wood detail. The birch could have a few more open splits in the bark, its very rare to find a birch with just cracks of the darker under-bark showing through, but I do like it how it is. the oak is, magnificent, wow, I'm speechless and have nothing to add or say other than how good it is, well done. the sponge I never use but it looks great.
oak leaves - I'm inclined to agree with the comments above that there is too much space in some areas, but the overall feel of it is good, so as you have stated you may be tweaking it, I look forward to seeing the tweaks.
log top - this is looking great yet again. I think it could benefit, again, from having a little more definition to it, but it looks brilliant so no big complaints.
obsidian - wow, that's... dark. Is the darkest hue in that a pure black? (as in 000000 in colour) cause if so I would shy away and go a tiny bit brighter, like 0b0b0b. The details I can see in it look good though, I like it.
netherrack and glass - love it, no need for critique cause its brilliant, well done again sir/madam.
gravel - I like it, but I feel it could benefit from more varied stone throughout it, so as to pull it away from the colour of the regular stone (I hate calling it just stone cause people think that encompasses all stone but as you can't really call it smoothstone what do you say? haha) I do like it, I just think as I use it for paths and floors a lot, it could look cooler with a few more stones in it, or colours, or whatever.
holy crap this post became huge, I am loving your work spirit, and again all of this critique is based on my personal opinion.
Ores - You're totally right. They need to be more embedded (particularly the iron still, in my opinion).
Bedrock - It was supposed to be a curvy, wavy type of rock to show its age. It's my understanding that some deep, deep rock that's millions of years old tends to get a wavey feel to it. I fear that I may have made the bedrock look too...plastic, though. And I will rethink my approach to it!
Mossy Cobble - You know, I just saw earlier today some mossy cobblestone that blew me away. I thought my mossy cobble was actually good, but I realized that it does need more definition. You're absolutely correct! I'll add more shadows and depth to it. :biggrin.gif:
Pine log and log top - Mmm, it does seem a bit dark. I may try to bring out some of the other colors a bit to enhance the roughness of the bark! I'll also go back and look at adding to the log top! Maybe a bit more detail will do the trick.
Obsidian - It's actually not pure black. It's a super dark purple, I believe. There may be some black in there, but the majority is definitely dark dark purple. I think I'll leave the colors the way they are for now, maybe come back and look at it and see how I feel. Obsidian is, after all, black. :laugh.gif:
Gravel - I completely agree with you about the gravel as well! I'll add some variety to the stone size!
Thanks again so much for the feedback Dorian! You've been a great help and a wonderful boost of confidence to keep the pack going!
Thanks again so much for the feedback Dorian! You've been a great help and a wonderful boost of confidence to keep the pack going!
mate, there is a serious lack of people making quality hand made texture packs in the 32x32 department, so I'm only glad to help. I would be making my own pack if I had the time but until I do I would rather try and add constructive criticism to the packs that are here (rather than the relentless fanboyism and flaming that goes on in these forums, I do let my temper get to me at times still though ahah)
I like the Idea of wavy bedrock making it seem old, but it does feel a touch plastic, you're right.
the obsidian will stand out a lot better in game I feel, so I'm happy with your decision to keep it.
looking forward to more updates mate, you have been a powerhouse with them so far hahah.
UPDATE-
ok so I only just saw you added soulsand and snow, critique time? I guess it is.
snow - is looking great, the side snow is fantastic, wow, the only thing I might say to try, since your side grass has such an overhang is a few shades of ice blue, like its starting to ice or frost over on the grass a bit. (I'm not sure it will work, it's just an idea)
dirt - also I was looking at the dirt, and I like it as I have said, but thought, I wonder if he has thought about doing a topsoil layer like JS and now Doku. Just a though as I do love how it works and It adds another layer of depth to the sides of hills (even though it doesn't tile into the rest of it all the time I have grown to love it)
If you dont change anything about the snow or side snow then well done it does look great I am merely throwing these ideas out as things to try.
Soulsand - Ok it looks great only thing I would point out is it doesn't tile in a visual respect, perhaps make it conjoin over all four sides? so it looks more like a sticky web of goo or veins over it, and perhaps slightly darken a few of the brighter green patches, although I think from further away they would look better than up close so I'm not sure.
flowers - could you take an image a bit further away from these? It's a bit hard to tell the details in them. I like that they are short, that is cool, the stems dont match your grass colour properly, so perhaps add some standing grass at the base of them or tweak them to stand out more, or less, at the moment they just blend a bit strange to my eyes. Also I think using deeper reds and more gold/orange yellows would work better towards the 'dark' feel of your pack.
oh my god it was huge again, SORRY!
also on a side note what program are you using?
mate, there is a serious lack of people making quality hand made... snip for length
Wow, thanks! It's great to have people at my back! :biggrin.gif: Yeah, 32x is such a great resolution for Minecraft imho. I feel like I'd make poop with 16x and 64x is kinda pushing it out of the Minecraft feel. I wish there were more packs, I can't get enough of them!
I love the idea for frosted grass, actually! I was trying to do that but got irritated and stopped, lmao. I'll give it another shot though since I'm not the only one that thinks it'd look good!
And yeah, that would look neat with the dirt having multiple layering! I could look into that. I'm a nut about detail sometimes and usually I always have to have a reference photo to look at when painting these things. I'll dig around some dirt photos. :biggrin.gif:
I use Photoshop CS5 and a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch. I'm a recently graduated art major so I'm a little more stocked up on art goodies than a lot of people, heh.
To jdwafer: Thank you! I'll look into the wooden planks a bit more. I thought that it looked...strange, but without the vertical lines it also looks...strange. Perhaps I'll just release an alternate texture for people to choose from. :biggrin.gif:

mate, I'm a graphic designer by trade (although I'm doing it in my spare time and being a barista for a job at the moment and doing graphics as an art hobby) and I have been tossing up getting a tablet for a long time, would you recommend it? (sorry to get off topic)
also I updated my other reply to include flowers and soul sand hahaha.
also +1 to the comment about the planks, they should come right the way across the square.
still it is all looking so great considering this only went up yesterday or something hahaha.
p.s. ALSOOOOOOOOOOOOO I just found out you are female, sorry about calling you mate so much, It's a bad habit of being australian! I will strive to be more gender specific now.
Ooh, the Soulsand. Yes, I'm a bit unhappy with it. It feels too..neon. I may change the colors completely to something more Netherish (lava-like). For some reason I've always imagined Soulsand being Glowstone that fell from the ceiling and mixed with lava. Perhaps I can mix the colors or something. I'll also look at the tiling again. It may be the angle from which I took the picture, but it actually tiles somewhat nice from what I can see. I'll update with new screenshots in a bit. :biggrin.gif:
I will take new pictures of the flowers! And you're right, I didn't even see that the grass didn't match! D: I'll play with the colors, too. They are rather bright.
As far as the tablet goes, it's wonderful! Get the Pen & Touch instead of just the plain ol' Pen. It's not much more money and it's a large workspace. I love the thing, it goes with my laptop everywhere! Totally totally recommend it! The only thing I don't like about it is the cord is in an awkward place, so unless you're sitting a desk you'll feel like the cord is bending against your leg all the time.
Edit: Rofl, no worries...mate! (du-dun-tsssh!) I didn't even realize that mate was a male thing. o-o

Thank you! I love your avatar, by the way. o_O I feel compelled to include that flying, rainbow kitty of PopTartness in Ashencraft somehow.
