Dropping in to call this resource pack fantastic. Either the new grass is too normal/dull looking, or I just got used to it, because playing Minecraft with the alpha colors makes the blandest landscape look interesting.
I can't understand why anyone would want this pack. I tried to play Minecraft PE pre 0.9.0 (when it looked and sounded exactly like this pack) and can honestly say I don't miss it one tiny scrap.

It's called "Nostalgia-Craft" for a reason.
Grass colors that don't look depressing.
High-contrast cobblestone. (so that it really looks cobbled-together)
Gravel texture that arguably looks more like gravel.
"Oomp" sound when you get hit.
The original rose.
A return of the wondrous atmosphere the game had when it was all new.
Seriously, it's called "Nostalgia-Craft."
I really like this texture pack, but it's admittedly more of a "novelty-pack" than something I use all the time.

Honestly whatever floats your boat but I've tried to play the old so-called glory days old versions of Minecraft and I don't get a wondrous atmosphere from them at all. To me they're just lacking content, have too gaudy colours and the oompf noise is annoying. And I played MCPE back when it looked just like this, enough time ago to feel 'nostalgic' for it

Because all people are different. Why would anyone use this pack? The same reason why YOU use any other pack. If you don't like it, fine, don't post.
Well the difference is I normally try different packs to get something new (at least new to me) not to go back to something old. That's just me though.

Some people, especially those who played in the early days of minecraft (alpha, beta, or even earlier) often feel that the old days were better. Grass looked more vibrant (bright green), the cobble had way more contrast, lava looks more like lava and not some hot sauce, you get the point. People are nostalgic, and generally don't like change.
Personally, I like that the game gets more features, but the pre-adventure update look and feel of the game is gone and a good way to feel that again is to use a texturepack that brings the old textures pack. So the new game feels like the old.
If you don't give a rats ass about this, then you don't have to use this texturepack, but let people who want to use it, use it. If you don't "understand how people can like this", then just leave it at that, scroll past this thread, check another thread.
Any special updates to Nostalgia-Craft in honor of Alpha 1.2's 5-year anniversary...?
Thinking of that milestone reminded me of this pack...
Do you have any ideas? I think the pack is very much completed, might be some details that need to be ironed out, like making a chest model that has the "old full block size", with no lid opening, and remove the sound maybe (if it's not already removed).

And then the 1.9 update ofcourse.
I'd personally like to see green-eyed Endermen like they were before they were formally added. But they also emitted smoke particles, and you can't change that with a resource pack.
Also, I could have sworn that the grass and leaf colors used to be in-between the levels that were in Alpha, and what there is now. Am I mistaken? If not, I'd like to see a version with those grass colors.

The chest model won't happen before it gets its own block model of course.

I explored this concept a while ago to see how the old biome coloring system worked, but something made me stop working on it.
Here's the screenshots i gathered from that exploring, and as you can see there is a very smooth transition from biome to biome, and local variations within the biomes.

the smoke thing can still be done fairly easily, though.
some people would prefer to disagree, but command blocks are one of the greatest features to ever be added.
I don't remember the exact command, but I think it's /execute, and then something to do with targeting endermen, and summoning smoke particles.
I know that this is possible, though, or at least, should be.
However, between the lag of running a redstone clock, executing a command around hundreds or thousands of the same entity, and the rendering of countless smoke particles... I don't strongly advise this. Even in a mod, I don't recommend it, unless some serious optimizations can be made.
However, if the computer can handle it, and using commands or modding the game doesn't bother you... then, by all means, do it. Personally, my only problem with the textures related to the end are the end portal frames. After I saw the original texture, I fell in love with it. I am working on several resource packs that have a similar goal to this one, and I intend to bring the old portal frames back for one of them.
Beautiful...
Well done, 2XMM2! I love this resource pack! Works well with my copy of Optifine.
I have been playing since 2014. I own the Java, Xbox 360, and Windows 10 Edition of this game

And sounds? Excellent! At the least, I can't wait to change back the sound of doors and chests. CREEEAAAAK.

Personal favorites:
-doors
-chests
-cows. They actually moo in pain when you hit them again! Why on earth did they ever change this?
Though I'm perfectly fine with the newer textures, so I simply snipped those out and now use these lovely retro sounds 24/7.

Yes. Not because I want to use it, but because I have something new to link whenever people whine about the glory days.

I'll try to do it again and make a grasscolor.png and foliagecolor.png out of the old colors, but it certainly won't look as varied and smooth.

Asked and make 1.9
is there a way you get the old xp orb sound from Beta 1.8.1? I love that sound so much!
