I went to take a look at 1.6's texture and found this little greyed sapling on the terrain.png. It's to the right of the Dead Shrub, left of the back of the Double Chest, over the Clay and under the greyed Grass.
Its a fern, a variation of tall grass. Edit the texture, because it's pretty common in a forest biome.
EDIT: Also here's a little quote from the wiki, explaining the fern: "A triangular-looking fern (also known as "living shrub")"
the three types of tall grass:
Tall Grass (the most common)
A triangular-looking fern (also known as "living shrub")
A dead shrub that does not occur naturally (not to be confused with the Dead Shrub appearing in desert biomes)
its jut one of the three types, its more rare then the standard tall grass but it still produces seeds, it takes on the biome colors just like the standard tall grass also

What is it? Should I bother editing it?
