Okay, this is going to seem a little weird but it's always annoyed me how ores are sort of a waste of a brick in a lot of texture packs, even simple ones.
What I mean by that is that they are not really attractive enough to build with. They are too chaotic or just don't tile well. (I know that is realistic; realism is not my goal.)
Does anyone know of any texture packs wherein there are decent enough iron or gold ore blocks so that I can expand my materials to build with? Maybe something with the mineral dispersed throughout the block in an aesthetically pleasing way. I don't know.
You could check out my Mythos pack. It has some out of the ordinary ores that tile the same as the smooth stone (because it is the base layer of my ores).
Edit - Sorry I haven't updated to 1.6 though. But you could use the ores and smooth stone easy enough. My update could happen this week'ish.
