Ok, well here it is, a tips section for texture pack makers.
REMINDER: This topic is mainly for people new to making new texture packs.
Also: This topic is new and will be steadily updated with new good packs.
The thing about this is, too many people make something similar to someone else's pack, and end up getting no attention to their post, or slightly worse, they get flamed for copying. Now the point of this is to inform texture pack makers about what the community wants/needs.
On to the main section:
Example packs that give a unique feel to them or are just plain appealing to (most) people.
Frenden's pack show off a unique cartoon-y feel to it, one I myself normally don't like but, the amazing work put into the pack just urges me to mention and admire it. This pack is very unique and makes a great example of a new genre of textures.
A very nice clear-type pack, it maintains the original feel of Minecraft while adding clarity to the game.(Basically copied the OP right there.)But, normally, I am not a fan of said clear packs, this one, on the other hand, is extremely well done.
Jolicraft is one of the most popular packs in my opinion, and for good reason. It is very original and sticks to the AUTHOR'S desires along with criticism from the community, which he responds to nicely and adapts his pack as he sees fit. An excellent example of Author/Community balance.
Eld's pack is an excellent artpack, with a mix of new and old textures but staying native like all of the packs so far and the screenshots pretty much speak for themselves. Click the forum link for a bit of info and the screenshots. Not much to say except that is is quite the RPG pack.
Amalah's pack demonstrates a theme touch to it, added in the form of an omniscent cat god(if I'm correct, no?)I love the touch of a theme to any pack and it just makes for amusing happenings. Now most of the actually themed stuff is the artwork, buts some themed packs go further, and those are some like the fallout type packs, which I particularly enjoy.
Six packs, wow. Quite a lot of work to be done for six finished packs. I can't really dive into detail here though as much as I would want, too much typing for me. I'll let the OP handle that with the beautiful screenshots.
A free 32x normal pack, nothing edited and all textures re-sized made by myself. Forum Post
The GIST of what I'm saying here is that all of these packs have their own cool qualities and get rewarded in downloads and posts based on that. If you want to make a pack, take a lesson in how its done from one of these pixel art masters, also a nice few tips:
Overhaul the textures: Yes and No. Some people like this completely new feel, others don't. A personal decision really.
Use a good picture editor: Personally I use GIMP but others like Paint.NET. Do NOT use MS Paint as it does not support opacity. Another, more expensive option is to get Adobe Photoshop, I'm not gonna link there because I don't like the price.
Take criticism: Of course! You need to listen to the community, but it's like your mother always said: Boy, don't you let them hooligans tell you what to do, unless them hooligans is right!(Your mother never used proper grammar did she? Oh well.)
That sums it up, remember to stay original and make a non-painterly custom pack.
Thought I was gone? Nope, lastly give credit where credit is due, I don't want people to steal other peoples work, so ask permission and then link to their post when you use their work.
If you would like to see your pack mentioned here, leave a post saying what should be improved and a PM to the forum link to your pack about its unique qualities, and a write-up, if you wish.
I don't normally blow my own horn, but I think if you are going to talk about unique packs you really need to mention mine. I challenge you to find a more varied and unique collection of texture packs than my own. I might not get some of the attention of the others, but I have done more packs of more variety than anyone else. So if you are looking for inspiration my packs aren't a bad place to look. (click my sig, I keep an index thread of all my stuff linked in it.)

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.

I sure will, but not tonight, as I need sleep. But, rest assured I have seen your pack and am more than willing to add it to the collection. I simply forgot about it, also for another pack mythos will be a nice addition.
This is some of the most retartedly awesome stuff ever. O.o

You may not normally blow your own horn, but you certainly just have. Originality does not mean quality. I could make the most outlandish pack you've ever seen, but whether it's good or not is a different story. That's not to say your packs are of poor quality, but there are some insanely talented artists on these boards.
I can understand your reaction, I anxiously skimmed the list to see if my own pack was mentioned; but I wasn't terribly disappointed when it wasn't. Besides, I'm not well-known, and I have at least the little smidge of humility required to acknowledge that I'm not the best either.
@Natek7 I only added well know packs to the list. And seem to have a somewhat dislike of Clear-type packs, no offense, though I do take a liking to how it adds originality. Though yes, originality does not mean quality. I simply hope to have a more varied set of packs available to the public on this forum.
@Amalah I simply love your pack, a definite addition to this list. Not to mention that your pack does in fact, on my standards, compare to The_Fool76's packs.

It certainly wasn't my intention to be added to the OP, but rather to call out Fool's, well...foolishness. Anyone who proclaims himself to be a "texture pack master" (see: The_Fool's signature) has some major pride issues and deserves to be kicked down a peg.
You're welcome to remove me from the guide; my pack seems rather out of place amongst the other more notable TPs.

Don't bring yourself down I needed more simple texture packs. Besides, your clear craft is actuall the first clear/clean pack I've ever taken a liking to. Never think your not good enough. Though I asked for donors to submit their packs for more info on this post so there is not a reason for this argument. But thanks for the cool pack man. But yes I see where you're coming from, and MOST people deserve said punishment, but not TheFool.
