here's a good question. do many people using this pack live in equatorial or near polar regions? when automating the time format and geographic seasonal selection, i could also include logic for longer summers and winters for the corresponding regions. for instance, equatorial countries could have six month summers while polar countries could have six month winters. is this a feature that anyone would find useful?
i dont think a lot of people play minecraft from the north- or southpole.
i also think the 'always sunny' countries should still have the four seasons, because if one doesnt have snow in his country that doesnt mean he doesnt want snow in minecraft at winter.

right. makes sense. to clarify, by polar, i meant nearer to the poles than the equator, not antarctica, necessarily, although from a software developer perspective, it would be foolish to write it off as a remote possibility. the Eskimo have internet too. i was, however, referring to areas like alaska and northern canada, asia, and europe.
to further clarify, i'm not asking if anyone would like snow removed completely. my packs don't do any kind of modification like that, nor is that planned in any way. the question is regarding specifically how many months each season will take. what I'm trying to ask is whether people prefer a generic seasonal rotation or if they prefer a more specific rotation that accurately reflects their specific region.

Just updated to 1.6v2 to add some additional secret holiday exclusive content for all holidays. Also added a countdown timer to the first post. Summer Holiday is exactly one month from today!
Also, on the topic of holidays, is anyone interested in the addition of custom music for the holidays? This would, of course, be exclusive to people who have the audio mod installed and would be tricky to code in to the launcher, but I think I could work something out if there's enough interest.
It's 50% original. There is a good deal of borrowed content, but that's not the point. On July 1, the pack will change and everything will have a pirate island/summer vacation theme for the rest of that month. Everything, you understand. Then it will go back to normal for August and by September, the leaves will change and the grass will die. All foliage will visibly change to an Autumn theme until October when everything will be changed again to a Halloween themed monster party. Then, in December, everything will change again. A month of snow and gifts and bliss. Even the ghasts will be alight with the colors of the season. Until January. January is a bleak winter wasteland which will be greeted in the end by the most bright and flamboyant celebration you've ever seen. February is the spring holiday and everything is candy and hearts and fun and exciting. In march, real spring will arrive with blossoming trees and budding flowers, the same in April. Then, in May, it will be summer time all over again and you'll realize how much you missed it, now a year later.
The objective isn't to create a 100% original texture pack. Rather, everything should work together perfectly to paint a beautiful picture that flows seamlessly between the seasons so that the game plays along with you as the year moves on. It's not a simple texture pack. What I've created here, with the help of other artists, standing on the shoulders of giants, is a way to make Minecraft a reflection of your world, to make it as much a part of your experience as the world outside the game. That is the single goal which we together strive to achieve. It's not a bag of copied textures. It's inspiration drawn from the most creative minds working together to create something truly remarkable. A brave new world.

Failure. Tried creating a texture set for custom fire. It looks amazing when something 2 blocks tall is on fire like a player or a cow, but anything 1 block high looks really bad. It's a shame since it really does look amazing otherwise, but it looks so bad on a standard height object that I'm not even going to embarrass myself by showing a picture. Back to the drawing board.

Success! Custom fire created! Looks as good when other things are on fire as when you're on fire!
Also, thanks to Puddles and his Tooncraft texture pack, we have a new Jack o'Lantern! I call it the totem log/log lamp, but I'd rather not mess with the actual item descriptions. I always wanted to do something different because, while I like the pumpkins, I always imagined them being something specific to the fall holiday, and now they are. Thanks again to Puddles for creating the source which inspired this new texture.

A quick update for you all. The captured footage for the seasons video was corrupted, so I've got to start over from scratch. Expect a possible simultaneous release of seasons video and the holiday videos, but I'll get it done sooner if I can.
Also, mark your calendars if you haven't yet. Summer holiday starts in 24 days!
On the modding front, ejhopkins announced he will release the updated full version of his Wild Grass mod later today, so you can look forward to getting your vines and lily pads back. Also, he announced he will be keeping his wild grass separate from Notch's official tall grass. This is a sound decision since the tall grass serves a functional purpose while wild grass serves an atmospheric purpose. Also, it looks appealing to have 2 different kinds of grass available. It adds an even deeper degree of variety and diversity to the in-game vegetation. If you haven't yet, go check out the Wild Grass mod and give it a try. You won't be dissapointed.

Seasons video is edited and exported. Uploading to YouTube now. I'm using a 3rd party program to upload in hopes that it will save me from some of the quality degradation I've experienced using YouTube's native converter. I suppose I could export straight to .flv in theory, but I've not had great success with that in the past. I'll see how it looks before I release it and I'll try something else if it looks like crap. Either way, it should be available some time tomorrow morning, US eastern time. Next on the agenda, finishing the code logic to automate country/hemisphere detection, then promo video for the summer holiday. I'll probably release the summer holiday promo a few days before the beginning of July.
So I just saw the media showcase and...all this time, this thing was mostly a set of Painterly customizations with some edits?A bit of a dissapointment. Also, how about you upload the individual packs without all this launcher ******** so that we can just look inside the packs ourselves more easily?
Also what the HELL when I used the launcher it deleted my Painterly pack oh god

The launcher won't delete anything unless you have a texture pack named ABraveNewWorld.zip in your texture packs folder, a possibility I've assumed unlikely since that's a mouth full.
To address your other concerns, I do point out up front that this series of packs is not original. I take a firm position against reinventing the wheel, so if I consider another artist's work to be the best possible for that specific texture, I'll use it rather than spinning my wheels trying in vain to make something better.
Another point, many of the Painterly textures I've included are not originally from Rhodox's pack but rather borrowed from another author's work. The point here comes down to the fact that apparently it's acceptable for someone established in the community to use borrowed work, but if you're new, you'll be suspected of being a thief.
Also, because I assume permissions will come up in discussing Painterly textures, if you'll read back, you'll see some posts where it was brought to my attention that I forgot to ask an author for permission and rectified the situation immediately, so it can't be said that I'm not making an effort to pay appropriate attention to detail.
Lastly, the emphasis of this project in it's entirety is on bringing seasons and holidays to Minecraft. If the launcher bothers you but you want to use the textures, just use the launcher once. And if you don't like the textures, you're probably not interested. Of course, I'd like you to like that I've worked hard to create and compile, but if you don't have an appreciation for it, I can't blame you for not being interested.
Since the texture rotation is built off of the launcher and the launcher could be considered a modification or tool, perhaps moving the thread to another section would be a good solution to your concerns. What do you think?
Okay, I genuinely don't mean to be rude or to butt in here, but I would like to sort of re-ask a question: what is the state of your permissions? You haven't ever been specific about it, and I'm curious.

Apology accepted, Billy, and I'm sorry for being so quick to go on the defensive.

Awesome! Thanks for the support. Don't forget to follow up and let me know what you think.

I've also made a few more secret holiday pack changes/corrections. Updated to 1.6v3; go get it.

uh
all the Painterly textures in this are Rhodox's work
every single one of them
what have you been smoking
Also,I think it's just that I never noticed until know that I had deleted my painterly possibly by accident and hadn't redownloaded it.
If you'd like to debate this further, send me a PM. I'd rather not play troll to my own thread.
