You are wrong, or I did something wrong. Using 1.9 pre-release 3, I've compared this to the default texture pack and this texture pack completely thrashed my performance, I LOVE the pack, but it runs as if it's a 128x pack. Anyone know why?

I've found that sometimes you have to give the game some time to get used to the new texture pack. And by that I mean reloading all of the chunks around you, or something similar.
Otherwise, it's something *you've* done wrong. I'm a bit of a texture pack junkie and this, along with every other 16x texture pack I've ever used, has never affected my performance a single bit.

No, it acts like a HD pack for me, too. Fire looks very HD when using MCPatcher, and it makes the game much slower than normal.
But when I check the terrain.png for size, it's the size of a 16x pack.

I have two computers. The Good computer is a computer built for gaming. On Minecraft, its render distance is usually set to Far, with lag so minimal you hardly notice it. Texture packs have never affected its in-game performance, unless they were 128x. It has a few mods.
Then there's the Bad computer, which isn't a gaming computer at all and kind of sucks. The render distance must be set to Tiny to stop the tremendous amount of lag. Still, 16x texture packs had never given me trouble until 1.8. There are no mods installed on this computer.
Both computers have been MCPatcher'd.
When I use this texture pack on the Good computer, everything is fine and lovely and there is no lag.
The Bad computer lags tremendously with this texture pack. It needs to be set on the Default to work properly.
HOWEVER, I have also tried Eldpack and Painterly on the Bad computer. They also slow it down. Which leads me to believe that indeed, there is nothing wrong with your pack. I doubt 3 of the better quality 16x packs would all have a file in them that is larger than it is supposed to be. Furthermore, I had Eldpack and Painterly on the Bad computer prior to 1.8, along with MCPatcher, and there was no lag.
No, everyone, I am led to believe that there is something wrong with 1.8 and/or MCPatcher, more than likely the latter. I think when we patch our games with MCPatcher, it might be adding the apparent "HD Fire" we've seen. This is fine on better computers, but on not so good computers, the lag becomes apparent.
Granted, this is only a theory. But it is a theory I strongly believe. I never had a problem 16x texture packs before 1.8, now after 1.8 I'm experiencing a good amount of lag with them on a computer with no mods whatsoever. This can only mean that it is either the game itself, or the patcher. It can't be the texture packs.
Argh I just was about to finish pre3's release when pre4 hit.
I'm sure the masses will ***** and moan but I say just take a slow break until they release a true update. No sense changing things every week or two just to keep a few demanding children happy.

I don't think it's possible to **** AT pixels, especially since they don't exist outside of the computer. What a silly man.

Dude, that actually looks kinda funny. Ran into that once, but it was a Paint.NET error while editing another pack...
I'd rather he just worry about the original game before people start talking mod support.
