[*:2d06ywdr] Originality - We have all seen dozens of variations on 'simple' and 'like the original but better'. If you want your pack to stand out, make it something that hasn't been done before. Also be sure to do your own work. People don't respond as well to remakes or edited images pulled from Google. If you DO want to do a photo realistic pack, I suggest getting a digital camera and taking the stock images yourself.
[*:2d06ywdr] Consistency - Your textures should all work together. Having a cartoony block next to something that's more realistic doesn't look good. Also be sure to maintain a consistent and mostly harmonious color scheme. Basically, if you stand across the room and look at the pack, no one block should leap out unless the intention is for that block to leap out.
[*:2d06ywdr] Quality - This is the really hard one. Sometimes that means spending hours on a single tile tweaking one pixel at a time and other times it means just having a good eye or just plain being lucky. If we had a really good way of describing what makes something good or not then we would -all- be putting out packs like Eld's or Doko, or whatever other artist you happen to like. My best suggestion for this one is to simply put a LOT of time into it. The more you do, the better you will get a feel for what works for you.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
I really don't like it when people try to make a supah dupah hi-teck evryting-is-made-'o-metal kind of pack because I feel that it just doesn't fit. I also tend to lean towards packs that don't blind me with bright colors, but instead have a nice, attractive color scheme. Grass doesn't have to be green, water doesn't have to be blue, and redstone doesn't even have to be red, as long as it's all easy on the eyes.
Realistic. I don't like any cartoonish packs. I just like the blocks to more accurately represent what they are (i.e. coal looking like a chunk of coal stuck in stone instead of some black squares amongst gray ones). Misa's has been my favorite so far. I use it and mix in a couple other textures from various other packs and share it with my gaming clan. Everybody in my clan always enjoys it.
