Right, so this topic came up in Glimmar's steam punk thread that there was a Mesoamerican shaped hole in the texture pack selection. Having actually wandered the Yucatan myself and clambered on several of the Myan ruins this immediately made my brain go fizzzz. (Not that it takes much with my brain. For anyone in the world out there who has ever suffered with trying to come up with new ideas, I'm sorry, I probably got your share of them by mistake.)
Anyway... The big thing that set my mind off wasn't actually the designs of the ruins themselves, it was the overgrowth on top of them. (Yes, I know, my brain is an odd place.)
So with that in mind, I fired up my trusty pixel abuser of choice and set to work on yet another mad scheme.
Behold, heavy thick growth on top of the blocks >_>
That's actually snow by the way. If I continue with this, I'll change the sprite for snowballs and rename it to 'moss' and 'mossballs' or some such in the language file. I'd also change the falling snow animation to be heavy rain.
The idea of course is that in a 'snowy' area any buildings you create would get covered with a nice thick layer of green making for that nice overgrown ruin look without having to put dirt blocks everywhere.

I can't seem to find the download link anywhere in this thread =(
That would be because there isn't one. :/ The only textures I have are the ones in that shot. (Stone, dirt, grass, snow) So there isn't anything worth downloading really.
I'm a bit busy with another project (completely unrelated to Minecraft) so I don't really have a lot of time to spend on textures, but I wanted to get the idea of using snow as something other than snow out there to perhaps inspire someone else.
However, there does seem to be a fair bit of interest in this, so I'll see what I can do. I'll warn you it will probably be pretty slow going with only a tile ever day or two (if that). I make no promises.

Wow, this is a really nice idea!
Do you mind if i use a similar thing for my texture pack?
I will be giving you credit for inspiration of course!
I don't mind at all. :smile.gif: As I said, the main reason I even did this much was to inspire other's to think outside of the box a little. Grass and snow don't have to be limited to just variations on grass and snow. You could make a texture pack that turns your entire world into bread and make grass the browning on toast and snow into jelly/jam on top of it.
