Thanks for the advice, and the feedback. Easiest solution was to simply rename the folder, which changes the URL. Simply reloading the pictures to Photobucket didn't work, as the URL stayed the same. But it's all fixed now, at least for this thread and my sig (No thanks to the "new and improved" forum).
I love the normal color of Lapis as well, but it doesn't go as well thematically in this setting. Wonderful for an Egyptian pack, but I felt turquoise was a better fit here. Don't worry - I intend to have the "normal" ores for diamond and lapis in an alternates file in the pack.
Cinnabar looks fascinating - it has properties similar to redstone, the color is nice too. I'll keep that in mind!

Loving the new textures. Only complaint I could make is that maybe the dispenser should look a bit more different than the furnace, but it's still fine as is.
Personally indifferent towards lapis lazuli, I tend to avoid using it in block form because of how odd it tends to look, opting instead for dyed wools for color. However, I do agree that the color's more fitting for an Egyptian pack than a Mesoamerican one and that green/jade is much better.
Also on the ores... personally I've always favored them drawn like veins rather than just loose ores, but if you're sticking with ores, I think it looks best to just have a small number of large ores (like Doku or the many RPG packs) rather than a bunch of small ones (looks kinda messy as it is) or a small number of small ores (looks kinda boring.)
Java is bulky, slow, hogs resources, passes out from exhaustion, and although it was big in the 90's is now typically only found on poorly designed websites. Much like Harry Knowles. So any time Minecraft crashes, blame Java.
Textures all look really great, and very representative of the Mayan, Ancient, "Deserty" theme. Anyway, I'm curious
if you've released a pre-release of the pack because some of the comments seem like they've used the textures regularly. If it's on the
First Page and I'm blind it would be kind if you linked me to it.
Anyway really looking forward for future updates and release. So, you ready for Beta 1.6?

The pack is still in the preliminary phases and isn't even close to a release. Due to the forum administration's callous disregard for protecting the original work of artists here, I'm going to wait until it's complete before release (at least, the terrain.png will be finished).
The way things are now, if I release a partly complete set of textures, some jerk like Sparx10 or CreeperDaReaper will put my work in a remix before I'm ready to release it myself.
The comments on previous pages are from previous iterations of the textures you currently see in the thread. In the interest of saving my bandwidth (and that of readers), I remove outdated textures when their replacements are ready for display. This way, you always see the latest examples of my work.
I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and it's good to know that there are so many of you eagerly awaiting it. When it's ready, we'll look into a server where we can build some of the mighty wonders of that age!

The Mayans are seriously one of my favorite people in history. I went to Chichen Itza a few months ago and almost cried at how amazing everything was.
Once I saw this pack I got giddy.
You are doing a really good job on all the textures.
Just an idea: Maybe the chicken should be turned into a Quetzal, they were indigenous to the region and the Mayans actually used them for their feathers. (They didn't kill them though) I still think it would be nifty.
Honestly if I could help I would, but I don't know how to do textures. I'm pretty good with their history though, but anyone could look hat up on the internet
Anyways! Goodluck with it all, can't wait to download the pack when it's ready.
Have some obsidian, one of the Mayans favorite stones, for your great work and creative idea!
Hullo! I like to say it's very good to see someone take the initiative and make a pack based on Mezo-America and all things Mayan/Aztec.
I would like to say that there are Indeed Pine forests in southern and central Mexico, though very rarely known. It does snow in Mexico, and it has snowed in the past ten years as well. If you want, I can help you out with the texturepack.

Thank you, I welcome any advice, input, information or assistance you can offer. I will be crediting those who offer exceptional input (such as TheBluejay continues to do).
you stole half those textures!
learn to make your own instead of stealing others work.
Please go back and read the original post. Until you understand exactly what's being done here, you should restrict your input to the Remix pack thread, where my views are already clearly stated.
I haven't represented any textures as my own except those that I created entirely by hand. The other textures were voluntarily contributed by XSSheep, Kroc, and Grugsy. Furthermore, nothing has even been released yet, so I fail to see how anything can possibly be "stolen".
Sod off to CreeperDaReaper's thread, won't you kindly?

I'm making one inspired by them, but I would love to see one that makes your structures look as though they were built by the Mayan themselves. Keeping an eye on this, cannot wait to see more pics.
Aztecs had allot of cacti, as they were essentially the people of Mexico. Mainly Agave though. They ate squash too.
For squash, you could replace mushrooms with them!
And of course, beta 1.6 comes out and i have to wait longer to put my hands on ABSOLUTE EPICNESS...
Fear not - I'm still working on the pack, I simply haven't got anything new to show yet.
I was trying to make the ores look less blobby and more like nuggets, and I still cannot seem to replicate the nice burn and color depth with the new shapes.
But I may be onto another solution. I was looking at Gaming Lord's pack and I like how the ore looks like it's kind of "breaking through" the stone. It makes it looks like it's embedded and adds depth. So I was thinking, what if I added a layer of the base stone on top of the textures I've already done, and then "chipped away" parts of that top layer with the eraser? I could then use the edge and burn tools to add the necessary definition.
I plan to keep working on this thing until it's done, but I can't even begin to predict when that will be. So, no promises (or even vague ideas) on a release date, but what I will do is to make sure that what I do eventually release meets with my own high standards and your enthusiastic (and very kind) expectations. And I will always be glad to show what I'm working on! You'll see each new texture when it's ready for display!
Thank you all for all the encouragement, and stay tuned!

I teach a course on Hispanic-American history, let me know if you need help. I give you two sites that might have info and pictures for inspiration. There's plenty... (BTW, Incas aren't really Mesoamerican, they're Andean) After I'm done with Básico, I was thinking of doing just this, but mainly Mayan-themed, and 128x.
For stonework, check out the Incas for starters. For art, go right to the Mayas. For tools, weapons and armors, the Aztecs.
Thanks for the info, Adriorn. I'll give it a look, I'm sure I'll find a wealth of ideas.
I know the Incas aren't technically "Mesoamerican" being in Peru, but I felt that sites like Machu Picchu and the Incan culture would be well-represented by the theme and they should certainly be included in the pack.
As for the mossy, I fixed it (placed the texture a pixel off on the grid) but just haven't gotten around to updating the picture.

I'm lovin' the much improved ores and the idea for the furnace. I'm imagining what that furnace would look like atop a pyramid at night with just a few torches ranged down the four slopes.
Don't rush anything, Hunter and don't feel any pressure, just enjoy the process and release it when you feel the time is right. You don't neeed me to tell you that, but I feel better about it at least. :smile.gif:

One quick thing that came to mind: Check out "Chan Chan", possible inspiration for sandstone, and maybe other stuff (also in Perú). It's adobe, but shrug.
This teaser thread makes me want to find an Indy skin in anticipation of your delightful to the eye texture pack...
Please keep up the good work!
Goes back to waiting patiently.
