bump decided to continue with it but i want to change the smoothstone and textures i finished, im looking for a really dark, magical theme but still can fit into minecraft, i hope :smile.gif:
I'm glad to see that you have come back to making this. You have so much potential for making texture packs, and I really do think that your pack could become very well known.
As far as themes go, from what I've seen the way to make themes work well is to retexture everything, and make it adhere to theme as well as possible. Not everything has to directly reference the theme, but it should still complement it. And while it should be fairly obvious what everything is, it doesn't need to be the same as it is in the default textures. What I mean by this is that, for instance, you decide that diamonds don't feel quite magical enough, you can change them to, say, fragments of stars. The main thing is that everything in your pack needs to fit. If you use an idea, follow through with it.

ha thank you for writing a paragraph about the pack :smile.gif:. I want to make it feel more i don't know dark amnesia type of feel. I may even change the way a creeper looks completely. I am not sure yet and I may switch from graphics gale to Photoshop or paint.net. Also about the embedded thing thanks for the example it will help tones :smile.gif:
For the dirt, I would say tone down the gaps between the dirt clumps thus that they are less conspicuous. Or, you could also experiment with adding some some more texture to the clumps. Maybe make them look like they are about to crumble into smaller clumps? Decreasing the brightness difference might still be a good idea though.
Also, you may want to tinker with making the stone bits more dirt colored and maybe smaller, they stand out as it is.
Their tiling does need to be worked on some (there seems to be line of brown at the top which really doesn't help matters)
All that aside, I like the concept behind the dirt, and I feel that it should fit your planned theme well.
new style of dirt (the only finished part is where all the detail is :smile.gif:), im going to do some simple basic textures of the terrain.png then add antialiasing to make everything look more a live, I love the way the new dirt is going however. :smile.gif:
really having fun with this now, its begging to feel a lot like terraria even though I wasn't influenced by it alas.
Planks :smile.gif: they tile incredibly well try to figure out where a single block is, its pretty hard

They do tile rather well. However, it might be nice to have a bit more distinction between planks.

hmm i may :smile.gif: how do you like the dirt and topsoil? Most of this is just really prototype ish im going to change what I don't like but some of it i really really like. Working on cobble atm. I want to learn more about pixel art before I start making more detailed objects :smile.gif:
Wow, that is definitely the best texture pack name I've seen in a while. How is it possible that no one thought of that before?
Anyhow, if you want a dark and gloomy atmosphere I suggest you make the rock a lot more rough, it looks way too cuddly and smooth as of now. With a dark and gloomy atmosphere I would expect the rock to look more like this:
Surely there are already enough texture packs with 'smooth' stone. And not nearly enough with actual natural rock, which it's supposed to be in the first place.
Also, make architecture Gothic. That would really fit the theme.
hmm i like the rock idea and i actually plan to redo the smooth stone to a rough rock with bits of plant life in it.
\some super rough cobble. I think Im going to remove the dirt specs and make the grout line more noticable and mroe details.
Some shadows and lighting added aswell
The cobble looks more like cracked smooth stone than cobble, if you ask me.
This is what cobblestone looks like.
I do like the dirt. I am debating whether it would look better vertical as it is, or rotated to be horizontal. I guess the only way to know would be to have a comparison of the two with screenshots.

the cobble sucks peroid. only texture i remotely like is the dirt and topsoil
the wood needs a lot of work and so does the cobble
I'm not going to post any more pictures/previews for the time being i want to experiment with some techniques for this pixel art stuff, its difficult :tongue.gif:
I am in no way trying to single you out or bash you... :tongue.gif:
Cobblestone rarely looks like that...honestly. Just look at the first page of images by Googling it and you'll see that there is no definitive look. But you (the texture makers) should really just make what you think makes your buildings or whatnot look good to you. Other opinions count tremendously, but not at the expense of your creativity.
From the very first line in the Wiki:
Cobblestones are stones that were frequently used in the pavement of early streets.
Key word there is "streets". Since most build a ton of their main structures with cobble, it would be a more leveled, brick type of stone IMO. The term "cobblestone" is a label for the texture, just like all the textures in MC.
