I'm sure many of you have seen Minecraftopia. Now to make Minecraft look nicer they applied some kind of filter to the pictures (I don't know what type sorry). And it looks very nice.
Not all of it, but the textures in the fore/midground look quite nice. I'd imagine you could recreate that with a simple resize and filter of the default textures.
The background textures have potential too, giving the game a sort of angle arty type of style, although I don't think it'd work as well as a texture as it would easilly be repetitive.
