Turn rendering to Fast instead of Fancy and see if the side textures show up. I bet they will as it looks like you probably have a messed up side-grass texture.
From the look of it, you have a custom grasscolor.png and a side-grass texture that's the same as the top of the grass. The side-grass texture should be a monochrome coloration of just the grass bit of the texture you have in your post with the rest transparent. It is the tile directly below the iron block texture in the terrain.png.
If that doesn't fix it, then odds are you have a mod that's causing problems. Do a reinstall and see if the problem continues with a clean version of the game.

Take the graphics off fancy for a temporary fix, because you are using a pre-1.5 texture template, and have left out biome shaded side grass. I'll go dig up the terrain.png and post a pic in a second.
What you want is in the center of the second picture, that's the sidegrass.
It looks normal in the terrain png.
