Prologue: Hi everyone, I've been playing Minecraft for a while now, and made this monochrome texture pack (Black and White with occasional Greys and colored wool).
Murveman's Monochrome Texture Pack
When making this pack, I was going for a mix of that retro/vintage Macintosh Game feel (Think Cosmic Osmo), and the original Gameboy graphics. Almost all of the blocks are either original creations by myself, or edited versions of the default texture pack. There are a few blocks that aren't my own.
Here's the new grass with flowers and cacti next to a moss cobblestone house.
This image has the old grass and obsidian, but I left it here to show the black rain.
You get some pretty crazy Noir effects from a distance. It's a headache for some, but I personally love it, so don't ask me to change it.
I'm calling this its Beta Stage as of 5-28-11, so some textures will change over the course of time. Several items need to be converted from grayscale to black and white. I may eventually update the water texture (I personally think it's too hard to see). And I may or may not convert the grayscale paintings into something a tad more B&W.
Old grass and obsidian again, but a nice view.
Also, this pack looks exceptional in 3D mode. I suggest you break out those Red/Blue 3D Glasses and give it a go! Seriously, try it.
I'm open for any constructive suggestions, and I hope you enjoy this pack.
~Murveman
It looks neat. I don't hate it, but it's not a texture pack I would want to use, at least at this time.
I think the Cobblestone and Wood could use a little improvement. I've no idea what is to the right of the Note Block/Jukebox in your first screenshot. Oh wait, maybe it's a Bookshelf ? Also, the grass doesn't seem to match all that well with the rest of the textures, since the grass has multiple shades of gray and the rest only have two.
I might be mistaken, but I think monochrome means only black/gray/white/red/pink/etc. or black/gray/white/blue/baby blue/etc. and every other black/gray/white/whatever color. So, perhaps you could make the wool various shades of red, or whatever to match the torches.
Monochrome only means Black/White. It might also mean Red/White, or [Insert Color]/White. Gray scale means Black, White, and any shades of gray.
I left the wool colored because I thought it would look nice. I also left iron, diamond, gold, and lapis blocks, and Obsidian Colored. This is all because I think it looks nice.
Yes, the grass is an issue. With the grass grey it's not completely correct to call this monochrome. I haven't changed it yet because no one complained, and it's kind of easy on the eyes in comparison to the rest of the pack. Either way, this pack, to my knowledge, is the most monochrome of any pack.
And yes, that's a single shelf bookshelf. Trust me, I tried several designs. The thing about this texture pack is that everything doesn't obviously look like the material it represents (Stone isn't checkered in reality). In a way, this is a throwback to very old video games (think pre-Win95). If you use this pack for a while, you'll end up knowing what everything is.
Besides some obvious icon changes, I don't feel like this texture pack is going to change much.
BUT
I do not like the way grass looks. The gray really contrasts with the rest of the world. I have tried several grass textures by making designs that are only white and black, but none have looked good.
So far, I have simply lightened the current grass texture. To make it blend better (I haven't released this version yet).
So, if anyone wants to make a grass texture that they feel looks better with the rest of the texture pack, PM me. If I like it I'll put it in with the rest of the pack, and of course, give credit.
well, I had mixed feelings aboot this pack; at first i thought it was ugly, then after seeing more pics i realized that it does look pretty cool (the wool could be used to create an interesting break from the monotony). But then after seeing more pics, it started to hurt my eyes.
Ha, I've gotten the "It hurts my eyes" complaint a lot. I guess my demographic is pretty small. It's for people who like monochrome things and getting their eyes hurt. Thanks for giving it a chance.
Speaking of hurting eyes, I think I'm going to make a Robotron/Defender/Blaster texture pack next. I'll have to see if it's doable though.
To those who care, I've updated a buttload of textures. Mostly nether related, but most importantly grass. I won't release the next version of the texture pack until 1.6 is out (I'll need to add maps and portal blocks), but here's what I'm working with.
If ya'll have a better idea for grass, let me know.
I like it, probably because it reminds me of a black/white texture pack I started a while back. I lost motivation at some version update, and dealing with the wool. Ditch the colors, for great justice!

Thanks, I'd like to see what you got done. And no way! I love the colored wool.
Weird, I'm pretty sure the link works. Mediafire is pretty crappy though. If an ad opens in a new tab just X out of it and you should see a download prompt.
If you didn't figure it out, the link in my signature leads to that pack. I couldn't figure out what to do with the wool so it has a colored dot in the center. I had considered doing a pixel pattern to represent primary colors, and mixing the pattern for secondaries.

I didn't realize. I'm pretty unobservant.
After viewing psb6w7's pack, I will be updating the ladder, and several icons with theirs. The ladder in my pack looked far too much like the rail, and psb's fixes that issue. Not sure when I'll publish the update, my mediafire says I can upgrade a file only two more times.

Even though it's 16x, You will need to use the latest MCPatcher HD to run this pack (since I used custom files). http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/232701-update-51bettergrass-mcpatcher-hd-fix-201/page__hl__mcpatcher

amazing.Only word to describe it.
Quite original and easy to define most textures.
Psh, then don't comment. I want criticism, not haters.
I've been wanting a pack similar to mine for a while. I've looked around and can't find anything but incomplete Grayscale packs. So I made this.
And thank you, Darcnite, appreciate it.
If you just don't like monochrome things, you're obviously not my target audience.

I've noticed that the clock isn't readable though.
Ah, well you're welcome then.

in short, i thinks its cool, but its not for me.

Massive update. Added 1.6 items and changed SEVERAL textures. It looks much better in my opinion.
