Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. †Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis.†
Personally, I would use a crafting table or furnace (maybe both?) to make an altar, rather than stone slabs. That way, the slabs can be textured for other uses. For example, the tile or marble floor used in some cathedrals (possibly cobble for tile, smooth for marble, and sandstone for a different kind of tile, leaving wood as wood).
I would have liked to use crafting tables as altars, myself - except you can't place anything on crafting tables...
although that stone and marble and other stuff isn't a bad idea... :smile.gif:

While the stuff you have modified is actually pretty cool, I think a lot more can be done to make a pack for the purpose of building kickass churches. At the least, I'd recommend making a more brick-like cobble texture and a darker, cleaner plank texture. Maybe it's my inexperience talking, but I feel like dark wood is more common in churches than lighter wood. I think doors would benefit from a window, considering that Minecraft is still a game where monsters want to kill you.
If you plan on making any exceptionally large or extravagant churches, redoing one of the larger paintings as an external decoration, like a cross or engraving, might be prudent.
It be a little corny, but using religious imagery like crosses in your general texturing of, say, ores, could be an interesting touch. That's only if you're willing to add a more surrealist vibe to the pack, though.
Speaking as an atheist with functioning braincells, I do like the idea of this pack. Churches are cool. Catholic imagery, like the imagery of many religions, is cool. I think you should keep working on it and strive to create a really awesome pack that lives up to the ideas you're associating with it.

Thanks for the suggestions, Detsuahxe, and I am happy to meet you. :smile.gif: Pleasure also, I imagine, to meet a man of science. I have respect for both the sciences and theology. I do believe God made the Universe, but I also believe He began with the Big Bang. I'm also not averse to evolution, either. Theology has no effect on my science, and science has no effect on my theology.
As far as the paintings go, I wonder if it is possible to create more paintings than we currently have (use up the empty slots in the paintings bitmap). If it is possible, I would definitely include a cross or crucifix (or both) as a "painting" the next time I update this. I may include one anyway. Very good suggestion, as crosses and crucifixes symbolise a point of crucial importance: the Death and Resurrection. Almost all Christian churches have either a bare cross or a crucifix at the front of them.
Texturing ores... maybe. I'll mull that over. (Maybe a statuette in an alcove or somesuchthing for an iron ore block. My face just twists into strange shapes when I think of an iron ore block as a decoration.)
For brick-like cobble, may I suggest eld's texture pack? He has great cobblestone. Maybe I'll make my own. The doors? I won't lie; I kinda rushed them (that's fairly obvious, since it uses the original chest's wood). I do want to make a fancier wooden door in the future, though. It will probably be darker, too. And it will have a window. :wink.gif:
Wood usually is a little tanner or darker. Maybe it should be a little tanner, if not darker. Depending on how in-depth I get with this texture pack, I may or may not make it so.
Churches are cool. They are a work of praise for whomever they are made for. I make mine for God because I want to praise Him. Thank you for the suggestions on how I might improve my work so I might make better churches.
Thank you, and sorry if I rambled; I wrote this at 4:12 in the morning.

The tabernacle skins, of course, are now broken. So I will have to update those later.
Otherwise, a new door texture and a LANG file to rename some of the things I have textured are the only new things.

This reminds me of that server that AVO greifed, they were having church in Minecraft and one of them jumped into the water to get baptized and drowned during there session. hahaha. One of the best videos.
I saw that you wanted to add more paintings. There is actually a mod for that, although, it is not updated yet. It should be updated some time after 1.9 comes out though. Here is a link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/94275-v173-more-paintings/
As a Catholic as well(not the most devout though), I have to say this is a great pack. I was planning on using to creative mode to make a massive church(pipe organ, tabernacle, pews, etc.), and I was afraid I might have to retexture a lot of things, but this will help. :biggrin.gif:
1.9 seems to hold good news for Christcraft. The new Enchanting Table should be easily re-purposed as a Bible.
Hmmm that looks interesting, Anon. Danke.

Hmmm... what were you planning to use for the pipes of the organ? Might I suggest some chimneys from Syrup's Fancy Pack? (Of course, I could texture my own...)

This is false by definition, but the thought is appreciated.

Impossible to add more paintings without modding. It's up to you as to whether or not you want to sacrifice a painting slot for an exterior decoration, but I do recommend it. Variety is a good thing.

There are actually texture packs specifically for creative servers that retexture survival blocks (like raw ores) into decorative items, like marble pillars and so forth. But if you're aiming to make this a survival pack (no longer guaranteed with the reintroduction of Creative to 1.8) then you should probably try and keep the ores textured in such a way as to be identifiable.

That wasn't really a request for my sake. I already use a texture pack that includes bricky, pretty cobble and so on. I simply thought that most churches aren't made out of stone heaps. Good to hear you do plan on retexturing more of the blocks, though.

I don't really think churches are cool because they're built in praise of anything. I just enjoy the aesthetics, the spaces, and the mythologies. If I happen to think churches are cooler than, say, castles, it's only because churches are all over America, while castles are not.
Would it be possible for this texture pack to update to 1.6.2? I love the pack dearly but would rather not have to downgrade. I can't seem to be able to convert it myself. Could this be done? Thanks.

See, I got the unsticher, but when I tried to open it, the command screen open and closed, so that didn't work. And still, a lot of textures need added from before. I'm trying to just make a new version, and just move the textures over, but in game none of the textures change, but they are saved in the file. So....lots of issues.

Atheist simply means either lacking a belief in God, or a positive assertion that there is no God.
It does not mean making up definitions and failing. You, sir, fail.
