Dropbox is the way to go!
But I don't have a virus scanner, haven't had in a long time really, don't quite know why, but also never had any viruses from mediafire or anything.
And I do download alot from it.
Well because of this thread I have to change my Dl link because of a fake Problem/stupidity because people only read the titles, since the posting of this I have not had a single download, I average 10 downloads every half hour. This site isn't safe either there is an ad right at the top adverising a free greencard as I type.
this thread really shouldn't be here. as it has been said, mediafire is not the issue. it is secure. the ads posted on the site however are not. if people aren't using internet security software and a smart browser, they aren't secure..and get viruses from everywhere...even mediafire. you should remove this before the uninformed masses that populate the internet get any bad ides.
words of wisdom: use protection! and in most cases some common sense.
i have not gotten a trojan or virus in years!
all thanks to a wonderful piece of software called Norman.
Have to admit the giggle i got from this post. Although, Jenn had no part in my giggle. Just they way she worded this..."protection" "Trojan"
Then she said "Norman" and it got weird
:tongue.gif:
Seriously though....are you people really still talking about this? From what I've seen, 95% of you don't know enough of what you are talking about to post...so don't!

If you do NOT have Anti Spyware Program, and a Anti Virus program. You deserve what you get.
Do NOT rely on those "All in One" grab bags. Norton, McCrapee, Kasperky, Trend Micro, are VIRUS BASED CUSTOMERS. So rely on them for okay, good, or great Anti Virus support. Do not waste breath with Anti Spyware Support.
ZoneAlarm Internet Securities Anti Spyware is decent, it works.
PCTools Spyware Doctor, still top dog, along side Super Anti Spyware, and Malware Bytes Anti Malware.
Software Firewalls are equally important, they usually double as hardcore lockdown tools that can lock your computer down, and preventing NON WINDOWS PROGRAMS from running.
I've never had any problems with MediaFire, never had, even with Chrome.
Again if you get a bug, you get a virus, and you have a head on your shoulders, you know what you should have.
ITS YER OWN DARN FAULT.
Also you should pay attention to what WEB BROWSER YOU USE, and IF it tells your AV to scan your downloads.
On top of that, pay attention to what your downloading in the first place. From web pages you'll get Spyware, not viruses... I can't remember the last time I got a virus... spyware/adware... whole nother story.
I have aVast, and I have HellBit--custom AV. The latter only watches specific folders, in my case my download folder.

If you are going to use a computer, and are in the habit of going to many sites....KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
That's all. (just gets irritating as a tech service guy to see so many who don't get it and/or think they do cause they know {insert BS here}. Learn your PC people! Learn what not to click, what to install as a precaution, and when to stfu if you dunno the answer....

Been using mediafire for as long as I can remember. I prefer it the most. No viruses, no spyware, no nothing.
This.
The only way you could get a virus from that site is by actually clicking the ads. And even then the worst you'll get is tracking cookies which are easily removed.
On that note when it comes to virus-stopping software I personally prefer Avast and Malwarebytes.
I'll continue to use mediafire as I have never gotten a virus in the years I have been using it.. If you get a virus it is usually do to poor security =/
How do they know for sure that the virus came from Mediafire, and nowhere else on the web? Like, I'm asking how they traced it back to mediafire itself.
I've always loved Mediafire, and I have never gotten anything malicious from it except for when people have uploaded infected files. But in truth, it's the internet, you can't trust anyone anway, you always gotta scan pretty much anything, and stay secure at all times. In my own experience, I have never had to worry about clicking anything wrong on Mediafire because the download button is a large blue line of text, and any fake-buttons are really obvious. I've always closed out any pop-ups I've seen come up, but even so, none of them have been malicious. Well at least not yet. But I use eset and malwarebytes and they've pretty much detected anything bad spot on.
I wouldn't download Dropbox, just because I'm too lazy too. Besides, Mediafire works just fine and doesn't make you wait like Megaupload or Rapidshare. I am not an uploader as well, so I wouldn't have to worry about the uploading aspect of dropbox either.
So I guess really, it's still gonna end up as a personal preference choice. If you don't mind the download, then why not use dropbox, but if your lazy/cant be bothered, just upload a mirror to go along with mediafire if people are refusing to download or are unhappy. OR you could be like me and say "If you don't want to download from the link that I provided, then don't." -- But since I don't upload anything for minecraft, I'll never have to worry about that lol

Look; it's not a question of whether MF hosts malware or virus laden ads. No more than it is a question of whether the girls you sleep with are carrying HIV or crabs. It's also not about using AV or any more than it is about using condoms. If you want to use sites that **** themselves out to any goddamn advertiser with no morals and don't care where that ad has been or what's on it and you feel fine because you took your penicillin and are wearing a double jacket on your johnson go for it.
Some people prefer to avoid those sites because ALL AD DRIVEN DL SITES SUCK. Doesn't matter if they don't give me a virus. Doesn't matter if they will do any file for anybody no questions asked. I don't need that **** in my life.
My original post, mentioned in the OP, made it clear that you should feel free to do whatever the hell you want with your files. I choose to provide files to people that want them without making them go to the seediest part of the internet and deal with skanky, low-life wierd-ass sketchy-as-hell sites. If you like those kind of sites you should feel free to use them. If you think that using those kind of sites is normal and acceptable that's fine. I'm sure that no one will make any kind of judgments about you based on your association with them.
If you want to provide a clean, respectable and ad-free direct link to people there are ways to do so.

What's funny..is that you do what you say. I know you hate Mediafire...I remember...lol
And you say it like it's supposed to be said...
"I do no like them and will not do business with them"
So take it like this ^ people. There's plenty of free ways without Mediafire....find them. And it takes Copper for me to get on track about this...

This thread is pointless, the site isnt evil or a virus just people are dumb enough to click the fake pop up ads like on any site.
Mods I request a topic lock on this as all this thread has turned into is flaming, bitching and a bit of trolling....that and ruining the good name of a site for no reason :/
1. Get adblocker.
2. Get AVG 2011 or whatever.
3. Download from Mediafire
4. Don't get viruses
5. ???
6. Profit
DAMN
Dropbox has a bandwidth limit though.
Have to admit the giggle i got from this post. Although, Jenn had no part in my giggle. Just they way she worded this..."protection" "Trojan"
