REQUESTING LOCK OF THREAD - It has turned into a ugly flaming war.
My only point was to stay away from Mediafire, as it can contain malicious malware. It is your choice if you wish to continue to use Mediafire, this was just me warning people of it. - Thanks.
I've seen enough, and i want to warn everyone on this texture pack subforum about a huge problem regarding Mediafire. It seems like a lot of people downloading from mediafire are getting malicious programs, like viruses, trojans, etc. And that is not good. It's said in the rules that people linking to viruses and such will get banned/recieve a warning, and this is almost as bad. Mediafire is INFESTED with viruses and trojans, and i would STRONGLY suggest staying away from it! A easier and safer way to upload files are trough Dropbox.
Again, please be careful when downloading from Mediafire, i have allready changed every texture pack and download link put up into dropbox, instead of Mediafire.
Also, here is a "discussion" thread about the fact that Mediafire is unsecure.
I will from now on stop downloading from mediafire, i suggest you do the same.
Kris
Edit: This is a suggestion from my side, if you do not like, i don't care. I would just like to warn everyone that is currently using Mediafire that it might be dangerous.
its probaly just ads having a fake download button... its completely safe
It is not safe. There are no fake download button. A normal person downloaded my texture pack, and found a trojan horse on his computer after that. Some guy downloaded his OWN texture pack, and got SIX trojan horses! Mediafire is not safe at all.
Hm... well, in 3 years which I used Mediafire, I never had a problem with any of the things I downloaded from there.
If it is true, well ... toobad then, since it was like the best for me out there. (Rapidshare and Megaupload with their stupid Download limits)
Yes, it seems like some people get viruses and some don't. I am not sure why, but i am sure mediafire is infested. Dropbox is A LOT easier to manage though, i would suggest using that on instead.
I've never had that problem either. And Mediafire has the most to lose by it, yet they have issued no warnings or had any lawsuits brought against them (that I've heard). These people may have gotten trojans, but highly unlikely it was from your download unless you put it there. Otherwise it would have to had been a pop-up ad that did it right? So now their advertisers are giving trojans and they let it go on cause they are the devil?
We really need to stop with all the misinformation spreading around here. I don't like MF any more than the next person...but c'mon man...
btw...anyone who still hasn't heard of, or has but not yet using Dropbox..."c'mon man" again

Yes, the ads could actually do it. But still, i would like to warn everyone. Just in case.. I'm not doing it for "publicity" or anything, i just want to warn people. I've seen enough computers get killed by trojans in my life >_>
Also, mediafire is secure, why noobs are getting virusses from it:
1) They are so stupid to click on a fake download button in the ads
2) they see the ads because they dont have an adblocker
3) they dont have an anti-virus
Wait...they are noobs....but Dropbox is somehow a pain in the **** to you.
hmm...

Mediafire's behavior is suspect to me, as well. I don't click on fake buttons (take a look at adf.ly if you want to see that abused to death), I have adblocker and anti-malware software, but none of this matters because many times, they "piggyback" an ad page onto the download link. So clicking the link gets you your file, but also launches a pop-up or pop-under page. This allows them to bypass any pop-up blockers or adware filters.
Normally, it's just a nuisance - but there's nothing preventing a questionable sponsor from deploying spyware or other maleware by this means.

I've never had any problems with Mediafire, nothing telling me I have a virus on the scans, and I've been using it consistently for about a year now. When I've finished with my texture pack, I'm going to upload it there.

That's your choice. I am just warning everyone that Mediafire is not as secure as it seems.

MediaFire has always been the same story for me.
It is a good/bad site for uploads, but it is easy to use otherwise, if you need something small and free.
The main thing to worry about in my book are the pop-ups that sometimes appear, they can have viruses SOMETIMES, but not often for me.
I mean, it is like any other download site, you must be careful for what you download. Just have a good anti-virus or two, and scan every file you download.
Everthing is NOT secure, there's always a risk getting infected...
That being said, I never had a problem with Mediafire, it's easy to use and one of the place i know that doesn't have stupid limitation.
I think the problem is that you just need to be careful with what you'll download. As for the ad problem, just use ad-blocker or antivirus program.
Thx for the warning, I guess...

"The rift between East and West is closing. Soon there will be no distinction between Japanese games and American or European games. Only Good Games and Bad Games."
I'm finding this sorta funny as for some strange reasons a lot of "DONT TRUST THIS TRUSTED 100% SAFE DOWNLOAD SITE.....VIRUS!!!!" and then they just scream virus...i mean heck within the last 3 days or so a lot of these threads have been made about ...well just about every download site to begin with ._. anyone else notice this?
Nonsense like this is why I just host my own stuff on my own site.
Ah the joys of actually having a job eh? :wink.gif:
Seriously though if you want to prevent 90% of the problems with free sites get a real browser with AddBlock. (and don't let any site show adds. A site's add revenue is not more important than my security and until the add feeds clean up their act, I'm blocking the lot of them.)
If you want to be in the 99.999% safe from issues group, get a professional grade OS. (There is a reason the internet runs on Linux and it's not that it's free.)

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Mediafire is not secure. Ever got that ad that says "click here to continue / cancel to close?" Cancel and Continue both lead to you downloading a trojan, virus, etc. Also, Macs do get viruses, but people do not make them specifically for Macs because they are not as used as PC's, for say, Windows 7 or Windows xp, or even Windows Vista. People need to use ad-less websites. It may not happen to you, but it does happen to others.

It's called get AD BLOCKER PLUS for firefox and not be suckerd in to clicking a fake button ad (The re-director addone (forget the name) for firefox also helps showing its a redrict link and not a real button) :/ Use your head....HELLO....HELLO.....THINK MCFLY THINK!

MAC's get trojans too.
No one is safe.
That is, assuming this is true.
I haven't experienced any issues with Mediafire, but I rarely use it now-a-days.
Pretty sure the installer is a smaller file download than most texture packs.
It's worth a download, dropbox is amazing.
Much faster download speeds than mediafire, and direct downloads too.
