Plus it matters not what size the file is. You can use 32x in a 16x pack but it may look funny. That part depends on the eyeball. If it looks funny, go a smaller resolution til you like it. It's better to keep it uniform though.
Keep in mind, when using the term "frames" also as well as the direction of the animation. Regular animations, when used in MC, animate backwards.

Terrain should be saved as PNG
ex:lava_still.png
for still lava
i named it that but it didn't work plus what should the dimensions be
