I TRIED downloading a texture pack, here's what I did:
I did what the readme said, I put the folder in the texturepack folder, when I played minecraft, just default.
Then I tried extracting the .zip of the pack, did the folder thing again, default. Again.
THEN I went to the texture pack folder, copied everything in the folder and pasted that into texturepack folder, exact same thing.
What am I doing wrong?!
Texture Pack I was trying to install was CubeCraft.

Did you click on Mods and Texture Packs on the main menu ? You need to select which texture pack you want to use. The texture pack needs to remain in .zip format in order to work.

Does having WinRAR make the .zip thing impossible?

No, if you right click on your desktop or in a folder you can select New > WinRAR Zip Archive to create an empty .zip file, then drag and drop all the texture files and folders into the .zip file. Make sure the files are not all in a single folder, for example you need to be able to see terrain.png, terrain folder, gui folder, etc. on the main directory of the .zip file.

After looking at CubeCraft, there shouldn't be anything extra you need to do. Just downlaod CubeCraft and drag drop Cube CraftV9.1.zip into your texturepack folder.
