So I wanted tot test my texture pack but when I compress it to make a .zip file and place it in my texturepack file it comes up with a grey default icon, not the one i made, and none of my graphics, why?

Could be many things...the main reason is usually that it is zipped improperly. The zip should not just contain a folder of your pack. It should contain the terrain.png in the main directory.
