Hey guys, you might want to drop it. At this point, I think Zman is just trolling, and even if he isn't it's no longer worth it. You're right, or maybe you're wrong, and there's no point discussing it further.
You continue to question my morals and my motives, when I've laid them plain to see. Each of you continue to form your replies around the idea that I'm the one with these questionable morals, saying I'll do as I please and get away with it. However, that's not the case, and never will be. In the beginning, I was called a cynic, but I'm just a realist. Regardless of my own morals, I simply provided the other side of the issue. There were several people yelling one side of it in unison, but there was a counter point that needed to be made. A side to the situation that no one was seeing, or cared to look at. I won't deny, I enjoy a good debate. I'm always looking for someone to give me another view of a matter. However, I clearly stated several times now, what my personal beliefs on the matter were, but I don't let my personal beliefs cloud every aspect of a situation. I openly see both sides of everything, and instead of stubbornly repeating my own moral belief 40 times, I look at the truths of each point. Just because something is right, doesn't mean everyone is going to do it that way, and it doesn't mean I should expect them to.
You see, that is what a debate is. Each side states their case so that both sides of any point can be completely understood. From there, you either learn something new, to shape your opinion, or you agree to disagree. Neither happened here. Just several people with their fingers in their ears, repeatedly going on and on about their own morals and how everything conforms to them or it's wrong. Even worse, this has quickly degenerated into a situation where each of you in turn quit focusing on the actual arguement and begin insulting my person. Not that it wasn't expected, but it's sad that not one of you could agree to disagree, and move on. Instead you each were reduced to insults. Regardless, best of luck in your future works. I've wasted enough of your time.

I have something to say now about this, I posted the pack before getting permission yes but I thought you wouldn't mind as long as I gave you credit. if any of the artist said take it down I would have, I thought that no one would mind cause I took the time to to give them each credit. like I said before some people might not even care enough to do that. I have been polite and respected everyone. but some of you wanted to rip my head off for it, being polite and specking to each other with respect go's a long way even on the internet.
I didn't understand why some of you were so angry when the creators were so nice to me, I really didn't want to start any trouble and regret this happened. but really with some of you I feel the anger coming through screen. I know you can say what ever you want on the internet but that doesn't mean you have to be rude and disrespect one another
I just thought you would see a well meaning person that want to put out something for everyone to enjoy
You're very civil, but respect is more than a polite tone.
The issue is about respecting other people's work - essentially, their belongings.
You still don't seem to feel that you did anything wrong, despite everything that has been explained herein. Hopefully you have learned that in the future, you ask for permission first, and that no response does not equal implicit permission. It's the same way as in the real world.
But most of the ire in this thread was never directed toward you - it was reserved for the fool who came in here with the attitude that people should be allowed to use others' work however and whenever they please.
Just try and keep in mind how you might feel if someone had done the same to you. Perhaps you wouldn't mind - but that doesn't mean that others are required to feel the same way.

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
@cat: let this be a lesson learned in reading too much into what people type..it's almost impossible to ascertain one's emotions through text. that being said, I didn't see where anyone was trying to "rip your head off".. there was a lot of faust doing what he does best.. but everyone was being pretty tame about all this.
@zman: I didn't threaten you guy...I myself wouldn't kick your teeth in, as a matter of fact if that WAS what I wanted to do I sure as hell wouldn't warn you about it first...lol As far as it not happening because you "keep intelligent company"..I lol'd. I get this image of the stereotypical uptight white guy that crosses the street when they see a thuggish looking black man coming towards them. In the real world you don't get to pick and choose who you have to interact with at all times, and yes some people would take major offense to you trying to stand on a pedestal and belittle everyone like you have done here. I seriously doubt you keep any kind of intelligent company honestly, because most of the people in that category would think you an idiot for what you have done here.
anyway..I'm done with this..arguing with you is like punching bedrock.

I did want to do the right thing and ask but I got a little upset at the site and impatient cause it wouldn't work, I know your work is important to you, but I make things in sl to and if some one copied my work everyone would know who is was from and to me it would matter that much, cause one it is complement and you can only keep moving forward, I don't know how many minecraft forums there are out there but I am sure some one has put your work as there own before and probably still is. it is a terrible thing for someone to and totally asinine but when some one makes a active effort to to do the right thing. I would like people at least acknowledge that and have a little common sense toward the matter instead of seeing it as only a black and white matter
yeah..I read the whole thing yesterday.. people were being pretty kind actually.. you must not pay much attention to these forums..lol
anyway..I never got a round to saying it, but this IS a nice looking compilation.
it just seemed like everyone was very angry and thank you I looked through a lot of packs to find the right ones and it was the second page that I meant sorry
yeah..this whole thread turned into a mess of people arguing amongst themselves...and you got the brunt of it when you tried to get a word in edgewise...lol but..it's over now hopefully and we can all move on to other needless arguments on other threads :tongue.gif:

I finally created an account on here after reading multiple huge threads for months because that analogy was the final straw. You guys are cool, haha.
Lol! Grugsy kind of summed it up perfectly for me too. That was exactly the feeling I came away with. Just sad I didn't realize it was bedrock sooner, but I did exactly the same thing when I first played Minecraft! Doh!
Gh0s1bAne, welcome to the wonderful world of the Minecraft forums! :biggrin.gif:

It's understandable, and I don't think there are any hard feelings on anyone's part. I think people just wanted you to understand that "no reply" does not equal "unspoken permission".
Generally people don't mind sharing their work if you ask - that is, indeed, a compliment. Taking without asking is a little harder to see that way.
No worries. The texture pack that I use in-game is a compilation of about ten different 64x artists. I think it looks wonderful but I would never presume to share it, because it would be hard wenough for me to narrow down what came from where, let alone getting permission to use it all.
Once Glimmar and Gestankfaust gave the OK, then there's no problem for you.

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
Ugh... been waiting to post something here (and do a quick check on things since the downtime).
Just gotta say, I was actually quite curious this week to see if someone had indeed made a texture pack based on the Myst games. Mainly, because of another video I saw that certainly garnered a vibe of such from it. So, I searched through youtube to see if there actually was a texture pack for this, but before I came across that, I'd discovered that people had actually recreated Myst island (along with the other ages) right inside Minecraft.
I later found the texure pack and was quite anxious to download it. Problem was, I was using a cached version (mainly, because the forums were down), and had no way of knowing if this was the most updated pack available at the time (the damn thing crashes after about 5 minutes, so it may indeed be my computer that can't handle it).
All in all, thanks for "assembling" this texture pack. Personally, when you do stop and think about it, Myst doesn't really have it's own "style", as it really is more of an amalgamation of different styles.
What a bunch of babies, go cry in a corner let her make the texture pack... if you don't like it then DON'T download it other than that go cry to mommy grow the hell up, be a man and take it just like in real life. its not truly copyrighted, and she is giving credit to the original makers...
I cant believe people cry over the stupidest things...

Two months late and I do believe no-one was crying. Maybe you should comment on the pack instead of trying to re-ignite the argument again as well.

Curse PremiumYou are absolutely correct of course. :smile.gif:
You most certainly have. Glad we could agree on something.
