This is could be a hypothetical question, but it may not be. Now think carefully before answering. :smile.gif:

@Catseye: Fair enough :tongue.gif: I haven't actually played the games either, just seen them!
They do have an awesome art style though.
Hopefully at least one person with the most basic level of intelligence takes something from this, and makes an effort to protect their hard work, instead of running around crying about it anonymously on a forum.
Really? Do you want to know how this sort of thing is going to get texture pack makers to protect their work?
The only way artists will be able to protect their work from people with your situational ethics will be simply to not release it in the first place. Do you think Glimmar's game or Gestankfaust's game will look any worse if they keep their packs to themselves - or share it only with trusted and ethical people?
If artists really made the necessary effort to protect thier work from your ilk, you'd still be playing 16x vanilla.

wow..just wow... I actually just read all of this thread... and all I have to say is this:
Zman...with all this high and mighty ******** you are spewing forth you are lucky YOU are posting anonymously on the internet, because in real life you would have already gotten your teeth kicked in. No matter what point you try to make, it's not going to change the fact that you are making yourself out to be a total asshole for no other reason than to give the people that actually WORKED on CREATING SOMETHING ORIGINAL a hard time. Go back to silently reading the forums until you have something to contribute.
And honestly I don't care if this gets me my first warning. As a texture pack artist this kind of attitude toward our time and effort we put into the packs FOR FREE makes me sick.
And honestly I don't care if this gets me my first warning.
Dude, if the moderators warn you after turning a blind eye to the whole thread and to the issue of someone distributing others' work without the original artists' consent, then their priorities will be seriously misplaced.
Without people like you, there'd be an awful lot of people whose games would be crashing when they broke a block, whose texture packs would be greyed out, and who'd be seeing a black screen instead of the game.
Without this Zman character, nothing else would change here. He's contributed nothing of value here. So it's pretty clear which one of you this place could do without.

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
You definitely read my posts well, seeing as how you're telling me how terrible of a person I am. Lets look back and see that I myself said it's my OWN Moral standpoint that what was going on was wrong, but I stepped up and told the cold honest truth anyways. That's because, regardless of what myself or anyone else thinks, it's all a matter of perspective, and your morals, my morals, and a thousand other peoples morals will all differ to some degree. People only capable of seeing their own side of an arguement are incapable of learning. No matter what you think, that doesn't mean anyone else will think the same thing, and regardless of how it goes against your moral code, it's not going to make them lose sleep at night. What I was trying to convey, albiet in a very abbrasive manner, is that not everyone has a high moral character, and many will take advantage of any trust that you give them. That being said, I've seen so many artists here go overboard when their work is used without their permission, and it's honestly their own fault. Is it right to use someones art without their permission? Not at all. Should people do it? No, they very well shouldn't. Will they anyways? Yes, some without a second thought. Will they always get what's coming to them? Nope, most never do.
Taking all of this into account, you have to make an intelligent decision whenever you're going to openly give out your hard work. Either you have some form of protection, to ensure your work is used in the manner you intended, or you release it without any, and leave yourself open to be taken advantage of. Regardless of which decision you make, you have to learn to live with the consiquences, because that's what our lives boil down to. Decisions, and what we end up with from them. I've had several times in my life where someone on the internet has made me think "If only that guy were in this room, I would do the world a favor and end him." The problem is, they never are. And they never will be. There's a point where you have to learn to let it go, and better prepare yourself the next time around.
And as for the blatant threats against my well being, it speaks volumes of your maturity. As far as I can see, aside from playing Devils Advocate, I've yet to threaten anyones health, or done anything but tell it how it is.
Zman...you are too dense to try and make sense to.
He said "you are lucky YOU are posting anonymously on the internet, because in real life you would have already gotten your teeth kicked in" as in "some one" would have knocked your teeth out. Because in this world, you really (or anyone for that matter) wouldn't last very long spouting your rhetoric to people's faces. But of course you took it to mean "he" would have done it.
I posted the forum rules, nothing about copyright laws (that was others...I know fully well what it takes to protect any work I might want to protect) which are in plain English, yet you still couldn't comprehend the permission part. As well as lumping me in with the people mentioning copyright laws. I posted it to end those discussions because it ISN'T about copyright laws.
You just don't get it i guess. For me, it's about what the forum rules state, and the fact that if they didn't have that rule, no one person would have an individual work done here. You spout some crap about how i wear it well on my sleeve...another thing you just pulled out of thin air. Anyone who really knows anything about me, knows the opposite. All i do is tinker and help others. Is it my sig? Like I'm not allowed to say "hey look what I did?" at some point after 1300 posts helping others test theirs?
You just seem to use words and read words the way it fits you. But sometimes, when everyone is disagreeing with you, it actually does make you wrong...deal with it. You are just another coward hiding behind an alt login so you can act high and mighty. At least I do show who I am on my sleeve. Not behind the screen....

This is no alt login, this is my legit account that I just so happened to make to join this particular conversation. I make no attempts to hide behind anything, and I've yet to have anyone in real life ever threaten me physically because of anything I've said. However, that's probably because I only keep intelligent company, not driven by impulse. And as for any other part of your post, you fail once again to take anything from what I say and hypocritically tell me that I'm hearing what I want to hear. Even worse, you've yet to make any form of intelligent rebuttle, and continue to spout on about meaningless things. Oh no, everyone hates me? That doesn't change the fact that the world isn't all sunshine and lolipops. And that's the point I've been trying to make.

You're right - this isn't the "real world" here. Here, there are very particular rules and one of them is simple: No one else's work may be used without the original artist's permission.
If you cannot understand exactly what that means, feel free to consult the "intelligent company" you keep. And while you are there, ask them the proper way to spell "rebuttle".

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
It is a shame that the person pontificating about the evils of the internet, who casually agrees that it is, according to his own morals not right to steal the work of others online, (just as it isn't right in the real world, by any nations standards) hasn't got the personal decency to say what is right. Zman13neo, We really don't need your 'legal' advice...it really is laughable that you think you are actually educating us.
For a fact, I and the majority here, know the world over and throughout history that 'stealing' the work of others 'is' considered morally wrong, whatever you say. Seeming to be stuck so far up... in your high intellectual tower, you actually think we don't know what the real world of the internet is like, of course we do!
Given that most people here on the forums don't have the resources to protect their work, either through encryption or the work of a team of lawyers, we do the second best thing and 'whine' about it, it's great fun really! You'd be surprised just how effective that can be around here. Of course for every 10 charlatans that get banned, 100 more will spring up, but tell me how many of those will gain respect and how long they will last around here, even with or without the intervention of an effective moderator... not a single one.
Don't really care what happens outside these forums, mate. What I've done for Minecraft by way of art won't make me lose any sleep outside of these forums, if it gets nicked, it's only a few square inches of pixels. What folk 'within' these forums think and their respect is what matters to me, you know (or perhaps not in your case), those decent right minded people who value things and know when something feels basically wrong and say something about it...you've obviously forgotten what that feels like. You feel you are arguing from some intellectual high ground, but really show yourself up as a person without scruples. You don't need my sympathy, but you have it nonetheless. At first I thought you were annoying, then amusing, now just sad.
Be honest enough to admit you aren't really helping anyone here, are you? You simply became a member to cause trouble and delight in trying to belittle the hard work of others. You are annoying most people here and I would bet you are just as annoying in real life, though you may think your intellectual friends think otherwise. We've no way of really knowing that have we as you say? I wouldn't be surprised if you've joined and rejoined many times before on this and many other forums to hide behind an anonymous user name.
Like Grugsy, I wouldn't care if a moderator slapped a ban on me for getting personal, it would be an absolute privilege and well worth it to call you out for what you are...I need a good break anyway! :smile.gif:

HeadHunter67 could not have put it more succinctly. You contribute nothing in this section of the forum other than to incite someone to break the forum rules, provoke those who have contributed much, and try to exercise your intellectual prowess. That's an impressive start for a new member.
This is what you said in your original post:
Quote from Zman13neo »
But that is neither here, nor there, as the OP has stated SEVERAL times, that she tried getting in touch with the artists she borrowed from, and has time and time again given them each credit. It's not as if she hasn't gone through all the proper channels, and until otherwise directed by a higher authority, she is free to do as she wants.
Please be more aware as a new member. You are clearly advising someone to break the forum rules, encouraging her to do freely what she wants with the work of others. She is not free to do as she wants with other forum member's work whilst on these forums, until she has received permission from the artist/s concerned.

You are strangely hypocritical when it comes to, on the one hand talk about "doing the world a favour and end him" whilst in the next paragraph blame someone for blatant threats against your well being when he clearly did not say what you are implying, but that has been the nature of the entirety of your contribution here has it not? To try to confuse and provoke. You clearly enjoy the thrill of the arguement not Minecraft, and that's the only reason you came on these forums.
It is apparent to all that you took great delight, not real concern, in reminding everyone here that they had no rights to their work once released on these forums. You did your best to fudge the issue of morals like an amateur student of philosophy and did nothing to discourage the person who's thread this is, or anyone else for that matter, to behave according to the forum rules, which as members we are all subject to. Whilst trying to profess an air of moral rectitude you did not behave in the spirit of honest concern for what was right or wrong.
