Ignore the people talking about stealing. If the owners didn't want this, the packs shouldn't really be on the internet in the first place.
Anyway, I like this pack, and would use it more often if I had a better computer. However, the side-grass is grey.
Only the side-grass OVERLAY (i.e. under the iron block) is biome-compatible. The actual block (i.e. next to dirt) still has to be green, otherwise, when the overlay is toggled off in Fast graphics, the side-grass is grey.
The owners put it up for the use of their pack in game...not to be hacked into pieces and be offered by strangers without permission. You can not speak for the owners...and know nothing of what you speak.
If you did not ask before using some one elses work, it's stealing. Certainly don't need a couple of "out of the water" types, telling people what is or isn't wrong around here either.
I don't mind the use of mine, as long as I am asked first. THAT IS the way it's done...period. The others you took work from without asking may be more serious about this than me. Seeing as how much it tends to be happening around here lately

No it's not...what's broken is the ability for some on these forums to do the right thing. When the other pack makers you've used come in, you may get a harsh reaction...just sayin.
I love the fact that you like anything by mine. Have no problem with others using my stuff. Really don't like the way you went about it though....that's all.
Besides...the bed I did in Mythos is better

Yes, it is customary and appropriate to ask permission before you use someone else's work but as seen here it is not always easy to get in contact or even to know what you can do or not.
And a lot of people on this forum need to stop being hobby moderators and tell other members what to do, in more or less, harsh ways. If you are not a moderator and have nothing to do with the original work in question you can of course politely offer suggestions to the poster but you have no authority to do anything else, except contact an actual moderator if you really feel someone is breaking the rules.

if the original creators ask me to take it down I will, but not until then
That's not how it works.
If you steal a jug of milk from a supermarket...
That's often the way it works. She should take it down if and when an original creator or a moderator asks her to do it. Using someone else's freely shared material in something you then share freely in turn, while giving full credit, is quite different than stealing milk from a supermarket.
Nice texture pack theme, by the way. :-)
You are doing the same thing as the others, just not in a harsh way. Everyone on these forums has the right to moderate what they see to a point. The same right that you just used....
Let me get it through people heads here and now...
When we do creative work, we are not FREELY offering it up to you the public to use how you want. Everyone needs to get that out of your heads. We offer it to use while PLAYING Minecraft...that's ALL.
There's no creative license agreement, there's no contract you have to sign to use it, but there is COMMON SENSE when downloading another persons work. In some cases (me), people have gotten paid to make textures and have textures the can sell to this day. Textures they are using/creating for MC and not getting paid for, but are still "owned" by the artist.
Get it now?
So it is A LOT LIKE the milk example. Only I often give away my milk to freely use. But I say so on the stuff I give away. The rest needs to be asked for first. This isn't open for debate by a bunch of people who don't have a clue what they are talking about. It's up to the artist.
Having said that, my bed is ok in this pack (I still like the one from Mythos better...even after a nights sleep). Just hope catseye does the right thing and talks to (really try this time) the others before a moderator does get involved...

You guys are so dumb. There is no copyright on these texture packs (If there were, they would have/should have posted it). He gave credit where credit was due. You guys spend waay too much time on the internet.
Nice pack by the way.
Creating something puts a level of copyright on it, regardless of whether or not you register copyright. If I made something, and have proof that I made it, I can still sue you for stealing it regardless of whether or not I registered copyright.
In this case, the OP has taken this work without permission and put it into his own pack. If he can't contact them, or hasn't gotten permission, this shouldn't be posted, period. It's stealing, and stealing it wrong.
Creating something puts a level of copyright on it, regardless of whether or not you register copyright. If I made something, and have proof that I made it, I can still sue you for stealing it regardless of whether or not I registered copyright.
This would be true, if the thing you created was under some form of protection. For instance, making your files encrypted. However, when releasing your work in an open source format to the masses, without even requiring downloaders to agree to a disclaimer, you lose all rights to proper litigation. On the off chance you managed to actually find a judge willing to hear such a pointless case, your chances of winning are slim to none, and in the process you would be losing precious time and resources for absolutely no gain.
To put things in prospective to the artists, once you release your work openly and have no formal copyright or trademark, the public doesn't even require the courtesy of giving you credit for your work. In fact, they can take it, copyright it themselves, and gain legal ownership if they felt like it. The reason being is because, without legal documentation that you're the original creator, you have no ground to stand on. An anonymous post on the internet dated before the party who stole the work gained ownership is shakey at best.
That said, from a moral standpoint, yes, it is stealing. And yes, you should get permission first. However, lawfully, it's not stealing. And the fact that the OP attempted to contact the creators and gave them credit to begin with, is already more than she was legally required to do. This is the world we live in, and the risk you take placing your work online.
So to the artists telling people to get false ideas out of their heads, please take your own advice, and take measures to ensure your works safety, or deal with the results. Because, in all honesty, the only obligation to the original artist who openly shares the very blueprints of their work, is a vague, moral one. And since when has anyone on the internet had morals?

I was just about to add a post about the shouts of "this is illegal" on the previous page, when Zman13neo partially beat me to it.
I'll just add this:
If you aren't including a note about your very in-depth legal knowledge, I would suggest that comments be limited to the forum rules. Because that is all that matters in a case like this. No one is going to sue anyone in court over a texturepack (especially if neither party is intending to make a profit from it), and any reporting is going to be done to the moderators here, not the police!
I'm not sure where you're getting suing and police from. The only mention of suing has been in analogies or otherwise theoretical discussions.

Also only a theoretical comment about things being illegal or not, since that is where those questions are usually settled. And people who only really want to say that something is not allowed are much better off referring to the rules here than copyright law, in a discussion like this.
are you 2 even reading my comments if not take your dissucion else where
For all of you who think it's a legal issue or not. It doesn't matter what you think. You either didn't or don't make any creations, so you have no say as to what "we" that do make creations want our creations used for. It's NOT open for debate.
Welcome to the Minecraft Forums! Enjoy yourself here, but please keep in mind these simple rules:
NEVER:
Post Illegal Activity:
- Anything referring to Minecraft hacks;
- Any link or reference to third-party clients or game interfaces; - Any material that is the work of another individual but is being represented as original. Permission must be obtained from the original creator, and due credit must be given, before including any element of that creator's work.
Any other questions on the legality of this forum?

Having the files on your computer, dated before the files the other person has, is proof that you at least had it first.
This wouldn't hold up in court either, as data files are far too easily altered.
Any material that is the work of another individual but is being represented as original.
The OP clearly states no original design, merely a mashup of other textures all of which were given their credit. And although if you made a stink about it, you could possibly get the thread removed, or the user banned, that wouldn't stop her from just going elsewhere or even selling the texture pack to others outside of the forums. So regardless of how you, the creator, wishes their work to be used, outside of this tiny insignificant forums, without legal documentation anyone can do anything they want with your work, if you so freely release it to the public.
But that is neither here, nor there, as the OP has stated SEVERAL times, that she tried getting in touch with the artists she borrowed from, and has time and time again given them each credit. It's not as if she hasn't gone through all the proper channels, and until otherwise directed by a higher authority, she is free to do as she wants.
Just an fyi, creating something does not put you in a position above or beyond anyone else, and whatever authority you percieve that it gains you is merely in your head. As I stated in my last post, if you wanted your art to be used in a specific way, it should have been made abundantly clear when it was distributed, and it should have had some form of protection. Openly releasing your work to the public without disclaimer or legal documentation, voids any authority you have over said art. As such, I'd advise you to be more proactive in protecting your own work in the future, or learn to accept the harsh truths of reality.

Your download link through Mediafired isn't working either. Try Dropbox...seriously. DB never gives pop-ups and actually is way more dependable.
