So, I was wondering about texture pack resolutions. How would you increase FPS using a lower quality texture pack? For example an 8x8 texture pack instead of the typical 16x16. If you made a texture pack, that had half the pixels of the normal one, would the game except it? Or would you use one that is the same size. Or if you treat a square of what is actually 4 pixles(2x2) as 1 pixle, while making this, would that speed up the game? How does this work? Thanks, Mr. Hobo

Making a video game mod for minecraft. Going great. The idea? blocks when clicked open up a minigame that rewards you with ores and such based on your ingame score. Almost finished with beta version, which features a very basic pong game.

Yeah, I did some testing, took it all the way down to 4x4. The game doesn't support 16+ right? You need certain programs/mods to make those work? Or is that for like 64+? Sorry, I'm just getting into texture packs, I done many mods, made some actually, just never txture packs.

mcpatcher 2.0 supports 8x-256x...didn't think 8x would work but Kahr posted in the mcpatcher thread that it does with the new patcher..and yeah...anything other than 16x without animated water/lava you have to patch

Woah I never knew that.
Another way to increase FPS is to size down all the other textures, such as pumpkinblur, vingette, gui, mob skins, etc. I made a pack like that once and FPS actually improved.
Thanks all. I'll look into that 2.0. I've figured out a bit more now. I probably said this, but I've actually made mods, I just never actually got around to getting txture pakcs. I've already heard of optimine, and optifog, and downloaded them before, and I don't really truly NEED the extra FPS, I was just curious. And, I can't complain about a few more FPS...
