This is because these tags - in that case "256x" is refering to the length of the texture for ONE block.
Since Mobs are taller and have different sides this is how the size of the file itself gets bigger.
Uhm, yeah^^ Something like that - hard to explain in english ;P
OOooh! I get it now!
I knew the sizes were for one block, I just wasn't sure how it related to mobs. Measuring the face "blocks" though, looks like most of these are 256x, except for the Slimes which are technically 320x.
Ghasts... well, they're the exception to the rule I suppose.
Good job :biggrin.gif: ,but whats that thing in the ghast picture at the top (the exploding earth/planet) (ITS COOL)
The moon's from the Mythos texturepack
(i think I need to crop that picture. the moon gets more attention than the Ghasts :smile.gif:)
Also can i use some of your mob textures for my texture pack
-I will give you 100% credit
-I do not make people pay for texture packs
Sure! I just ask that you mention in the forum thread and Readme that:
1) They're not complete yet. (just mentioning the version number would suffice)
2) Add a link to this thread.
Really, something as simple as this would work:
"Mob Textures are from "vonDoomCraft 3.0"
Oh, and send me a link when your pack's all set! I'd like to see what you make.
I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Yeah, feel free to use them in any videos you want!
I'm actually having a hard time spreading the word about these Mobs, so I'd be more than happy to help you out with your similar situation!
Just let me know whatever you do with them, and I'll post the videos here! I think I'll also start listing links to videos in all the future READMEs, too. If you can think of anything else, let me know.
On a side note, I began work on the Pigmen last night!
I'll try and get them out as soon as I can, but as I mentioned before, I injured myself pretty bad about 2 weeks ago, and it just plain hurts using the computer too much.
Still, I'll try and do what I can! Sorry for the wait, everyone!
Alright, I'll try to get to it as soon as my computer is fixed or when I'm at my moms on tuesday (So I can use her godly computer), my computer got some virus today and its going haywire...
I was originally going to do the review today, but when I woke up this morning I saw that 1.6_04 was out and it broke all my texture packs and mods :tongue.gif:
I'm excited to see the Zombie Pigmen and spiders, the Spider design looks amazing.
Anyone using OS X know why, after dropping this into another texture pack, rezipping it and throwing it back in the texture packs folder results in a grayed out, non-functional entry in the list of mods in the game menu?
I just cannot seem to find any solid answers about this. I'd really like to use these textures :-/
I've checked permissions against other packs that Minecraft can read just find - and they're identical. I've used different compression tools - and nada.
Did you zip the whole Pack-Folder or just the whole content in it?
OSX is a bit strange behaving with that.
When zipping the whole Folder you would end up in an zip that includes a big folder with the subfolders of the Pack.
That would lead to a result, just like you are describing it.
But when you zip JUST the subfolders (mobs, misc, terrain.png, ect.) by selecting them all, press right mouse button and the just click "compress" you should get a zip with the folders in it, the way it should work. Then you can rename the zip and put it to the texturepack folder.
Yeah saw that earlier... using ZipArchive and preview you can see that the previous attempts were all at the root level - not a zip with a folder at the root containing all the important folders, but the proper structure for a texture pack, with all the important folders at the root of the compressed file. :-/
I tried it anyway, and it's still the same. Blargh.
Maybe you could upload the file somwhere and PM me the link, then I'll have a look into it.
Well, after having deleted my attempts last night, I recompiled (compressed) one again and now they're working.
Must have done something different this time.
Thanks for your offer of assistance though. Much appreciated.
Edit: there must be some tools for swapping out textures like water. Are there, or do I need to whip out photoshop and do it manually?

I'm glad you managed to work it all out! ( and a big thanks to JoRein for trying to help too! :smile.gif:)
Honestly, I just sat down and read "Anyone using OS X know why..." and thought "Oh crap, I can't help this dude at all..."
As far as the texture swappers go, I haven't seen one; but it's pretty easy to manually swap out most blocks in the Terrain.png using photoshop. Water, though, is one thing I haven't been able to figure out. I'm not sure if the water blocks in the Terrain are even used...
How do you make these textures? Do you draw them then scan onto the computer and edit?
I wish!
I actually don't have a scanner at the moment, so all the textures had to be done from scratch on the computer (which is another reason these skins take so long).
The skins themselves end up at roughly 30 layers each, with pretty much everything except for the background coloring/shading being vector lines/shapes.
It's a very time consuming process, which isn't helped by the fact that I've got mild OCD and have to make sure I'm happy with the shape and placement of every little squiggly line.
These mobs are absolutely fantastic, original and unique in every way possible except not totally the creeper, but that was done in honor of the original right?
In my opinion you should absolutely not use any known texture, but to draw your VERY OWN from a scratch like you did with the mobs. Believe me when I say this that you have something very unique here. In fact I would be honored to assist you.
Keep it up!
First off, thank you very much for the kind words!
The Creeper skin is sort of a weird story.
This texturepack basically started when I saw this picture and thought [i]"That Creeper in the middle is my favorite Creeper drawing yet! I wonder if Minecraft allows for high enough texture resolutions to make this...?" and whipped up the Creeper skin (which is technically all my own textures, aside from the overlay, mentioned below)in something like 3 hours; Never intending to make other skins!
After the skin was all set, it still seemed like it needed something; so I decided to add in the original Creeper texture as a semi-transparent overlay. I think it adds just enough of that "classic Creeper" look that fans of the original Creeper won't hate it too much.
So does the Creeper fit in 100% with the other skins...? Maybe not. But it's still my favorite Creeper skin to date.
And there's always the possibility of adding Alternate Textures once all the basics are done.
Also, thanks very much for the offer to assist me! I'd like to keep the actual texturing work on these to myself for the time being, but if i can think of anything I'll let you know!
I wish!

that makes these mobs even more impressive!!! i cant draw on a pc. still the BEST mobs available . thanx
These are awesome textures that you've created! They really show a ton of detail and whenever i go to bed and get woken up by a skelly, it scares the **** outa me! hahahha
Awesome job! I hope to see a pigman in the future! :biggrin.gif:
Oh, and is it cool if I include them in my texture pack that I'm working on? I could never create something as awesome as this, as it takes real talent than just a few blurs, gradients, and clicking on filters that do things for me.. :biggrin.gif:

Thanks very much for the compliments! I'm glad I can aid in your bowel releases.
Hopefully the Pigmen won't be too far off in the future!
As for including these mobs in your pack, sure.

That said, I'd kinda like to keep the number of packs they're in to a minimum until at least all the monsters are finished. So from here on in, I'll probably be saying "no", unless it's for a badass pack or something.

Fair enough. I haven't offered a DL link of the pack yet, and it's mostly based on Ovo's Rustic pack so nothing too bad-ass that isn't already mostly available through all the major 64x packs.
How do you draw these on your PC anyways? The use of a wacom or pentablet device? Drawn by hand, then scanned in and touched up in some photo editor?
