Hey Doom I just uploaded a review of your texture pack because to be honest at first I didn't like it but then it grew on me... a lot! So here's a link. Tell me if you like it

Hey doom I know I have not sent you a review in a while and I am sorry. I could not run it, but now I just downgraded to 64x and I finally recorded it. I really enjoy the new changes, and I hope you enjoy the video. Here is the link:
Hey folks!
I hate to say it, but unfortunately I got next to nothing accomplished this weekend; so I don't have anything for a release today. I really do appologize, and frankly it pisses me off just how frequently it seems I have to say this lately. Between my car breaking down Saturday, and Sunday being spent talking to police and all sorts of people about my, frankly, out of control little brother, it seems like life has just been working against my efforts lately, and I feel like a big asshole over all of it. Especially having specifically said I'd have some stuff done by today.
Really guys, I appologize. I'm going to work in time wherever I can this week to try and have the first nice release in seemingly forever; but I am stretched pretty thin at the moment, so I have no idea.
(Also, I know people are pissed that I've been focusing on the HD Skins more than the pack. I just wanted to explain that the HD Skins have just as many downloaders/users as the pack, and I've left them hanging for nearly 6 months now...)
I've been wondering this for a while, but have you made any progress with the villagers? I remember seeing your sketches for the deep sea villagers theme, but I've not seen anything since then. Back burner? Just curious.
Back burner.
Frankly, there's so many villager skins to be done, as well as the separate overlayed clothing pieces, that I'm gonna have to do them all at once when i have a good chunk time. Also, I'm still just not 100% happy with the designs.
I think I hit a very nice mid-point between horrific and cartoony with the zombies; and none of the villager sketches are there yet. I'm definitely sticking with the Cthulhu-fish-men theme, i just need to come with some faces that I'd be willing to spend all the time creating.
I played around with the halo 4 skin, and i must say, even though i'm not really into halo much. It's my favourite HD skin and i'm now using it. I love how it looks in first person. The detail just in the hand is amazing. I love it. Thank you for putting in so much effort for us. You are awesome Doom
Why, thanks dude!
Truth be told, I was never that big a fan of the Halo games either. Up until "Reach", their gameplay was bsically "a Beginner guide to FPSes".
However, I love the universe they've created with the games, books ("Fall of Reach" is a surprisingly excellent novel, if anyone's interested), etc. And I love Master Chief's character designs!
Honestly, I don't think the series would have been half as successful as it was if ol' John-117's suit didn't have such great, widespread appeal.
Here's my personal skin, if anyone's interested in taking a peek!
The character, "Faggy O'Hara" (hold your judgments until the end!) is actually one I've modded into everything from UT3 to CS:S & GTA4 for my own use (Check my Steam Screenshots page for some cool pics). Over the years, I've come up with a whole backstory and personality for he and his squad ("the Heartbreakers")
I'll throw the gist of it in spoilers, as I doubt anyone really gives a **** beyond the pretty pink image above, but hopefully someday in the not too distant future I can get a youtube series about his adventures going.
Long story short, Faggy O'Hara and his team of Spartans were originally from a human colonized planet under a red sun. As with any other planet, they developed their own ways and customs; but basically:
- Pink is considered a masculine color and green feminine.
- Having learned long ago to tolerate homosexual lifstyles, the word "faggot" has long since been forgotten. "Faggy" is simply short for "Fagolomew", a fairly common name on the planet.
I envision any videos to basically be a series of cultural misunderstandings between the Heartbreakers (who have running black ops missions the entire war, ensuring Master Chief's bunny-hops and player-like lack of tactics actually succeed; thus they've never really had to interact with anyone from outside their home planet) and regular USNC folks and Master Chief himself. Both sides constantly sharing awkward stares with their teams, as the other team does something they perceive as "gay".
ok i will pm you soon ,atm i am in nether fortress so i will make a portal there too. check a bit later. pm sent
also doom should i upload the battlegear armours i put together - as alt armours? i'd just have to re-name them to make it easier for people. and have you read that leather armour will be/is(snapshot) dyeable? i hope that won't affect the 'gimp' suit you were planning.
Yeah! I think that would be pretty dang cool! I'm sure I'm not the only one that's sick of the alike-armors.
Also, yeah, I saw that. Honestly, I think it may just mess a little too much with the Gimpsuit idea; but I'm not sure yet. For the time being, I'm going to hold off on the Leather Armor until Mojang has figured out what they want to do with it.
Thank you very much, good sir! Rest assured, it shall go only towards the finest crack!
Seriously though, I really do appreciate it! Again, thank you so much.
Tankest floating castle i found on the server that i play on. Not made by me (cause i'm a **** builder).
Aaaaaaawesome! Very cool looking!
You know, I poke through Youtube almost every day on my lunchbreak for videos to add to the vDC playlist, and a near-constant complaint I hear is "you can't build with it!"
But then I look at a screenshot like the one you posted and think "You can actually build pretty damn well with it all... so long as you're building a doll-house or something similarly prissy"
All it takes is a little cobble, folks!

Nice! Thanks for taking the time to put that together! I've added it to the vDC Youtube playlist!
Honestly, I like the format of the video, and you seem to have a personality well suited to what you're trying to create.
My only critiques on the video itself (and I only mention these as a sort of learning tool. I'm not angry and venting my frustrations or anything like that)would be:
- A little more time could be given to individual textures. I'm not saying that you need to stare longingly into the Clay block searching for the artists "meaning" with it all, but I think a large portion of any texturepack's style and personality comes from their Items and Mobs. I think it'd definitely benefit your videos and the viewers if they got a little more of a spotlite. (And this is a very common problem with most of the video TP reviews I've seen out there, so it's not just you)
- I realize that this is going to come off as me whining, but I'd try to keep the positive and negatives at some sort of balance when you're going through the textures. Try and think of it as critiquing museum art, you know what I mean?
It's okay to say "I don't like this", but I think it helps everyone to continue with "This is what I don't like about it, but I believe it could be better if..."
Anywho, I enjoyed watching the video, and thank you again for making it!

Excellant! I always look foreward to your reviews, Super!
HUH! I wonder why the new version isn't working for you...? The only thing I can think of would be the texture optimizations? But then there should be LESS for Minecraft to load...?
Wierd!
Out of curiosity, are you using MCPatcher or Optifine?
OT: This is an excellent pack of excellent quality made by an excellent person who has excellent artistic talent.
Oh, pshaw! You're gonna make me blush.
As for the grammar, I more envisioned someone waving their rights goodbye, as they (in paper form) literally blow away on the wind as a younger-but-still-not-young Clint Eastwood shoots at them and Billy Idol stands by to sing songs about loneliness that suspiciously sound as if they could also be about masturbation.
Hey folks!

Yeah it is wierd I do not know what is going on. I use both really but I could use just one. I am glad to see you still like my videos!
hey dont worry man i'm sure we can wait....
i will upload those alt armours soon.
Awesomeness.
And thanks dude. like I said, I'm trying my damnedest. I'm actually going to work on the Diamond Armor when i get home today. I had started it last night, but about 15 seconds in (seriously), the power went out for the rest of the night.
Yeah it is wierd I do not know what is going on. I use both really but I could use just one. I am glad to see you still like my videos!
Hm. I'll look into it, but I'm not very good with the technical stuff.
and dude, I've loved your videos since the first one you shared with me. If you'd ever want to do a video together or something, hit me up! I'm trying to get into the Youtube stuff a it.
Glad to hear it!!
Honestly, I've just been getting so much negative feedback from around the web lately that it really does make it a bit harder to build the motivation to, for example, spend an hour looking for stockart, an hour and a half setting up materials, and all the other stuff that happens before I can even get to the actual drawing and stuff.
So I know it probably gets annoying hearing me say it, but I really do appreciate all the support you guys have given and continue to give!
You're the best!
I'll post a bit more when I'm out of work, but basically last night's lightning storm seems to have messed up my computer's color/darkness calibration!
In the screenshots above can you guys make out the "honeycomb" texture on my pink MC's stomach, or is it just pure blackness for you guys??
Don't worry Doom, even if i didn't use it in minecraft its still an amazing artistical project! Keep up the hard work buddy!
In regards to the screenshot question i can make out the honeycomb effect but only if i enlarge the image
Thanks dude! Especially for the "artistical project" bit!
Looking back, I don't think I ever really looked at vDC as texturepack i have to make, so much as a giant-ass, multi-staged art project. I never even had an overall theme for it all, other than "my drawing style"; which I'd never gotten to use when making video game textures before.
To be completely honest, I had a lot of personal tragedies occur around the time I was starting the pack, and I ended up focusing solely on working on it to keep myself from basically drifting into suicidal thoughts. And when my health started bottoming out, I honestly believed the chances of my living another year were slim, all I could think was "I have to finish my pack before I go!".
Whether that's a healthy reaction or not is up for debate; But I basically feel as though I've turned into that half-bonkers artist closed in the basement, throwing paint at a canvas. Except that in this case, I'd be throwing man-tits on pig-people.
Anyways, the point I wanted to make before trailing off was that anyone who creates a texturepack has an emotional connection to it, as their art. For me I think it goes a bit further, in that vDC has also been my kind of "grounding point" in a year long struggle to not implode.
I guess what I'm getting at is that, common or not, vDC is a huge, personal, part of my life, and I can't thank you all enough for being a part of it.
Gaaaawd, that got sappy.
Anywho, yeah, calibration stuff.
It seems to have righted itself somewhere around where I had it, so I think I'm okay.
Honestly, any time something like this happens i immediately start getting super paranoid; thinking maybe my calibration was terribly off the whole time and everyone's been seeing the pack 30% darker than it should... Doesn't help that every time I've tried to use any of the 4 or so different calibration tools on the computer/monitor, they all have different results...
Then it occurred to me that almost no one actually calibrates their **** and everyone's seeing it different anyways. Plus, Minecraft has a brightness slider, and I'm pretty sure someone would have mentioned by now that all the grass/trees look pitch black in the daylight... hopefully...?
Have you skinned the Ender Dragon? I haven't been to The End so I haven't seen it.
Not yet, but I've been giving it a lot of thought lately!
I think that when it comes to any dragons, the only real major difference between one that looks awesome, and one that looks "meh" is in the faces & headshape.
(Think about it and let me know if I'm along on that one)
Since minecraft's dragon is already fitted with what i think is a goofy Pete's Dragon-looking head shape, I think I may have to go outside the box with him!
Originally, I was thinking of going with a skeletal dragon (I went to funerary school; I can draw a skeleton blindfolded, be it for a fictional animal or not), but I've seen another pack with one recently, and with so many dragon-themed mods out there, one that's impossible to recolor may not be the best choice.
Right now I'm mulling over the idea of going kind of Ghast-like with its features; making it some multi-eyed monster that happens to be roughly dragon-shaped.
I could also do stuff like shortening the neck/tail, and using different "cuts" of transparency to give it a different bodily shape, so there's a lot to consider; And I don't want my pack's endboss looking "meh".
If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to share!
The more pants-shittening, the better!
Alright, guys! After a lot of revisions, I think I've got my Space Marines/Diamond Armor down!
Diamond Armor-
This one's probably going to look funky until you've got the full diamond set, as I really want to experiment with just how much definition/shape you give a player using the armors' extra "boxes"!
I'm hoping to use the armor's inner-most layer (pants) for the thighs, abdomen, and upper arm with some little bit connecting them.
If possible, I'd like to use the Boots layer for both the lower legs and the belt buckle. (POSSIBLY the backpack as well, but that may be pushing it)
The Chest armor will cover the thorax, massive shoulder pads, and hands.
I have a question though! Should I stick with the current design with normal sized hands and a tiny transparent slit between they and the shoulder pads; Or should I give it bigger Power Fists, with more of a space between the pads and hands (which will be showing the player's skin)?
The helmet will use the outer layer for the mouthpiece and the entire "T"-bit that goes around the back and top.
(I do have to tweak the face a bit. it doesn't look angry enough)
Also, I don't quite have a color scheme yet. I know It'll use big chunks of the Diamond Tools' purple color, accentuated with blue diamond bits though. I may even add a lot of black.
HD Skins-
Basically, I can use the armor textures to make a more simple version (in terms of PSD layering) for HD skins.
The recoloring for different Chapters should be easy enough; and I can make the skins slightly different by tossing skulls and badges around.
Also, because the layering for guys should be so much more simple than the Master Chiefs, I'm fairly certain I can mke a quick "Make Your Own Astartes" PSD (I'm still working on the MC one, it's just a humungous pain in the ass and I don't want it to get in the way of other textures.)
I hate to say it, but unfortunately I got next to nothing accomplished this weekend; so I don't have anything for a release today. I really do appologize, and frankly it pisses me off just how frequently it seems I have to say this lately. I really like the interiors!
Out of curiosity, what's the red colored image? It's a little dark for me.
Glad to hear it!!

Nope. But i'm sure he'll make it tank as hell when he does
not yet. the enderdragon is probably the hardest to texture....
ha ninja' d
Ah, cool! I can see it now!
Does the fact that it reminded me of an Imperial starship flying though the Warp (WH40K) make me a complete nerd?
Anywho, cool stuff again!
Please do feel free to post any other random screens you may take! I always love seeing 'em!
Thanks dude! Especially for the "artistical project" bit!

Comments/Crits?
Cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the Frostmorne Sword for all weapons...
