This looks amazing. I really want to add the mine and blade support to it. I hope this is not a noob comment but I looked through your forum and didn't see how to add that into the mod. Do I just copy and past into the original vondoomcraft.zip folder?
both should work.... i usually just drag the two folders into vDC
Huh. Did not know that. I wonder if something like that would work for the Rei Minimap textures, instead of having to place them in the minecraft.jar...?
Na you can drag them into the .zip in the mods folder and those will become the textures by default.
Sorry, my last comment sounded a little demanding. What I meant was if you have time to put some spare parts together from your other skins, I would really appreciate it. Also the texture pack is amazing!!! I love your work!!!
i already knew you are awesome, after looking thru those psd's i see how much work is involved, you are the MOST talented artist i know.
i would love to be as good as you one day - i'm thinking of getting a scanner 'cause i can draw ok just not with a mouse. i can edit textures fairly well so if i got a scanner i could do a lot more things. however i know i can't shade well. i still have some to learn, so everytime you give me positive feedback it means a lot.
Any word on the Cave Fisher skin? I've been looking at the cool bug-eyed preview for a long time, but it hasn't been implemented yet has it? Also, do you plan to add the enderman skin from the preview sketch as a randomob? I really like the slenderman skin, so it wouldn't be a terrible loss if not, but the sketch is uber-creepy.
Anyway, I love the pack! Especially the mobs. Keep up the good work.
TBH, i think that the font would be the greatest task for you Emperor Doom!
And BTW i'm really hyped for the version 1.0! (Not Beta 1.0)
I'll eventually do a custom font, though it'll be a pre-made font, not one I draw.
Really, I have no problem with the actual creation of it, it's the fact that I have to do coding for every letter not the same exact width as the defaults that's keeping me from doing it now.
I'm just looking for a nice HD fill-in until then.
new version Blood rain/water for beta 2.0
and fixed Battlegear tex
128x
256x
very sorry to the few who already dowloaded it.
Wow, those pictures are awesome!
I'll admit, I wondered why you onloy played offline... Right until i saw you riding dragons and running around with dual swords and such, and it all made sense.
Seriously though, great work! That blood rain looks especially cool! Did you end up getting all the waters to work properly?
I love this texture pack but don't really like using unfinished packs, any idea when this will be complete?
Usually, my answer is "I have no idea", but I think I'll be a little more honest this time, so everyone choose one of the following:
1) Whenever Minecraft is finished.
2) Whenever Doom's finished with Minecraft.

Oh, pshaw. You need to meet more artists lol
Seriously though, thanks for the kind words, dude!
It's nice having someone else able to see the background work that actually goes into all the textures. I get that most people probably look at the Furnace (for example) and think "ooo, it's some outlines and scribbly metal", not realizing that even the a tiny little bolt on there was actually like 3 layers and a dozen steps to create.
I dunno, I don't think it's so much about "talent" as it is "a willingness to throw away one's social life for their art".
The scanner idea sounds really great! Finally getting a scanner was probably the best thing to happen to my digital art and led directly into finally being able to create a texturepack, just as much as the new computer did. So I highly recommend doing such whenever you can.
Also, as I hope you know by now, you don't have to rely on just "feedback' from me. If you ever have any questions or need any help trying to figure out steps, layering, shadowing, etc. just ask! I may not know the Photoshop names for the tools and such, but I think I could hopefully break stuff down simple enough to work with most programs; if you get what I mean.
As far as shading goes, this may sound lazy, but I almost exclusively use the "Lighten/Darken" tool (Corel PSP) for all shading.
The best thing you could do to get the hang of it is to practice, and I've found one of the best things for that is to simply try making a few "capes" from scratch (I don't specifically mean Minecraft cape textures; but the basics are all there); specifically creating the cloth ripples.
You're going to want to start with Gray canvas, as close to the middle between black & white as possible. From there, just toy around with making some simple light/dark curves on the "cloth", not worrying about shadowing and such so much as the simple 3-D shape itself.
Ok, 2 other quick tips while they occur to me:
1)keep in mind that 99% of the time anything you do will look much cooler once its actually wrapped around a 3d model.
2) If you come up with a basic material you like, but think it looks sloppy, try messing with different Photoshop effects to do the work for you.("Oilpaint" and other "Artistic" effects especially)
Will it have connected textures and random textures?
I know it's more textures again but it's the kind of texture someone else can do. It's editing textures who appeared a lot like "sand", "stone" and "dirt".
At the moment, it has Connected Textures for the glass and Bookcases. I've thought about doing other ones, but really I don't have much use for it other than those two.
Random textures though, I definitely want to incorporate at some point! (Right now, I know very little about it, plus Optifine doesn't support it yet)
I think it'd be cool to add random scary faces to the tree barks, as well as a bunch of Grass variants. Mainly, it'd be used to the natural textures instead of the man-made stuff.
At the moment though, I do have random support for the mobs!

Honestly, I just keep forgetting about the Silverfish. I've still never even seen one ingame, so they kind of fade from my memory. I'll try and have them done soon! Also, I think I'll make them white and maggoty instead of bright caterpillar colors.
As for the other Endermen, I'd still like to do that other skin when I have time. I don't think that will be for a bit though; if only because it'll take a lot of time and testing to properly make the flesh I envision.
well i really admire u vonDoom, so many brainless people posted on ur threads and u always answer in polite way...
so what are the next big projects ur working on? (in the texturepack, the skins, items blocks or all at the same time?)
i'm asking cause i think many people got many ideas, and if they are posted at random positions, u cant read them all or u forget the idea then u will paint ur stuff...
Thank you!
I've simply realized that reacting the way I truly want to ends in multi-page *****-fits and flame wars.
Plus, I work retail... I know for a fact that at least 75% of people out there are as dumb as a stack of bricks; so even when you see what seems to just be the dumbest post ever, one still does have to congratulate them on actually managing to post in the first place.
Anywho, right this sec I'm only really focused on armors. I've got the outlining done on them, I am just having the hardest time actually making materials for them that don't look awful. (Seriously, imagine if someone told you to draw "metal" or "latex", but "not an object"...)
That's kind of why things have been slow lately, I've been deadlocked on the one bit of the pack everyone and their grandmother keeps shouting at me to finish, and haven't even really fiddled with the rest lately.
But, by god, I will have at least one of these ****ers done for this Sunday! Aside from that, I'll toss in the recolored GUI Menus, and HOPEFULLY some simple items and the Silverfish (I know, this is like the 37th time I've said I'd do them and I still can't make a promise on it)
Once that ****'s done though, I have about a dozen textures that have to be done; including an awesome Terminator HD skins (thanks to Zomb!) that i think people will love, probably more than my other skins.
**** yes. Wanted a texture pack that would scare the **** out of you if you got snuck up on. Excellent with vech's super hostile series, Kaizo Caverns.
I know making a texture pack is hard work, but could you try and do the iron ingots asap please? Cheers
I know my icon is random, BUT DON'T DISS DA FISH SALAD D:<
Shit****!...
...but I almost always end my posts with a descriptive essay on intrinsic hazards and inevitable downfall of societies in which fish salad is allowed to the masses...

thanks doom... my friend knows photoshop well so he is slowly teaching me more stuff, also i found this site to help me. i actually used the oilpaint effect on the sheild trim, looks good.
with the blood rain/water, i can colour the water and water splash particle per biome no problem but rain cannot be coloured per biome(yet). so atm my blood rain patch changes all the water in game.
in october here in brisbane au we have an annual zombie march. i plan on making a minecraft zombie costume but instead use the vdc asylum zombie skin. will get some pics too. can't wait!

Dude, that will be sick!!!! I wish my town had an annual zombie march....
You sir are a god among texture artists. this is by far the best pack i've ever used. i love all the little details with the animations. Thank you for releasing this and i hope you keep it up to date in future updates. more animations too!! thanks again mr doom <3<3<3
Hey guys. I'll hit up the responses in a bit; just letting you know that there won't be a release today.
I'll try and have one at some point in the week, but at the moment I've got the flu or somesuch.
both should work.... i usually just drag the two folders into vDC
edit:
i made a small error with 256x, reuploaded now plus a 128x version.M&B: Battlegear tex 256x

missing 1 colour armour now damn it!! will fix shortly.
And BTW i'm really hyped for the version 1.0!

Give me a little while on this one (I plan on redoing my HD Steve, and was going to use parts from it), and some idea of what you'd like.
Wow, those pictures are awesome!
