Firstly, that is awful news about your foot! How are you doing?
Secondly, thank you so much for the donation! As well as all the general help!
Thirdly, I plan on remaking the Mjolnir once I get to making most of the weapons, and tossing it in for the stone sword. It probably won't be animated, as I think I'd like to only animate the diamond weapons/tools. So when I do, I'll offer that mod guy the Mjolnir textures.
Glad you're enjoying the pack so far! Please feel free to give any further critiques you may have!
Planks- Originally, the planks did have breaks in them. Because of the thick outlined style, and the fact that each individual board could only be as long as a block, it made a wooden wall (for example) look like it was made of brown bricks. I added in the bolts as a way to break up the infinite planks without making the entire texture look too busy, but basically it's either endless planks or annoyingly small planks. Gravel- I've fixed up gravel a bit for this upcoming release. I've dulled the color a bit and added some thicker lines. I'm thinking of it as a placeholder though, as I'm tempted to make the gravel in the gray, sharp stones you'd see in a driveway or such. (if only because it would look cool for village roads) Logs- Yeah, they look a bit crap.they were one of the first textures I made when i started this, so i think I can do better now. I think I'd like to add a large swirl spinning out of the center, simulating the rings with a bit of style. (not animated)
Random Mobs are a planned feature!
Sooner or later, I want to remake the Zombie and Skeleton; with easily editable bits, with which to make easy variants. It'll most likely wait until the rest of the hostile mobs are done though.

well my foot is still in some pain, thou it is getting better slowly. its gonna leave a wicked scar i do believe!! (the oil burnned a trench in 3 of my toes and big hole in middle of my foot!)
no problems with donation - i do intend to give you more eventually.
on to textures... all of it looks awesome, downloading now...... is that the necronomicon i see?
will upload some pics later....
edit: wow all the new textures are really great i'll have to go to the end soon that will look awsome! the water is really good too - the pumpkins are wicked (you could animate the fire) i like the glow stone too .... i could just say i like it all cause i do..... best textures of all packs!!! oh and the blood-stained meat clever, nice thanks
- Jack O'Lantern fire (and all the other bits with fire in them) will eventually be animated. I just need to come up with a good fire animation first.
It's one of those things i've tried to do many times and it never ended well, so we'll see.
- Great screenshots!
If you're not already, I recommend using Optifine instead of MCpatcher with this texturepack. It gave me an incredible FPS boost, and the mipmapping (very important for this pack!) will make distant blocks look less like screen noise.
Also, at some point I'm going to redo the entire HUD, menus, and the font.
The Dr. Doom-y stuff is nice, but I need something more to the style of the pack. I've been sketching stuff up. I'll try to scan and share them either later tonight or tomorrow.
- Yeah, the glowstone was more of a test than anything. I was thinking that the addition of the redstone light blocks would negate the glowstone blocks as a household light source, but I'm probably better off making it look less natural.
I was thinking of maybe making the Blazes into some sort of rusted iron contraptions, so I may completely remake the glowstone with a sort of rusty window look with some sort of glowing stuff in the middle; so they wouldn't seem to out of place ij the Nether.
Not entirely sure yet.
i like the glowstone... its different, but maybe instead of pulsing the way it does- you could make it look like tiny streams of lava running though it?. i also like the hud, so i'll wait and see what you come up with - i like how the doomskulls light up when selected. i am sure you will come up with amazing fire. you amaze me almost every new texture added!! (rusty or not) robotic contraptions are a good idea for blaze, also that doombot/iron golem concept is a great idea.
the nether looks and feels awsome especially now the pigzombiez have bloody cleavers and the ghast fireball/firecharge., cave mining looks great too, that water and lava is really good aswell.

gonna go check the end now...... says awesome work.....
Yeah, I'm gonna have to give some thought to the Glowstone. The current ones are good enough for the time being though.
As for the HUD, here's some doodles I cam up with (please excuse the randomness)
-The Menu Bars and inventory bar would be the tattered ribbon with little bolts in it.
-Health would be the human heart
- Stamina would be the stomach
- Air would be the lungs
- The EXP bar would probably have the side-facing skull on either end, and be mostly made of the metal I used for the furnace, with your standard glass tube running through it.
The little icons in the top left are for Rei's minimap, which I've made a pretty cool texture for. (Just have to make the icons, Square map, and ask Rei about mod support)
Also, for the hell of it, here's some of other doodles I'm pretty sure will become items:
The chainsaw (from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3!) is for the Diamond Axe and will hopefully have little animated blueish diamond teeth.
Aaaand in the spirit of community interactivity, I present you with an exclusive vonDoomCraft visual game!!
Can YOU spot the new texture?
(it'll have an animated flag. I just have to figure out whether it should be American or Latverian)
I'll take your masturbatory sounds as a compliment.
In other news, having just fiddled around a bit with the Items.png, I realized that I could add 256x items to the 128x pack for better quality! Check it-
128x items:
256x items:
It shouldn't have any noticable effect on FPS, as the items are such a tiny part of the game as far a resources go.
Whatchu' folks think?
256x items, or the 128x ones?
If you are making a Thor skin, you should make one with a beard. Although he doesn't have one in the comics, he is a Viking god and deserves a manly beard
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I think Creepers just need a hug. Turn that frown, upside down!
256x items. They look so much better.
Though would it not increase lag because it is a higher texture? or is it only the terrain that will do that?
This texture pack is truly amazing!
EDIT: Will there be any other special item textures? Like how you made a hammer for the diamond sword and a meat cleaver for the gold sword.
It shouldn't increase visual lag to any noticeable degree on most machines, but I can't say 100% that it won't lag.
I think this weekend I'll put up a new download for vDC, with just the 256x items and moon added. that way you can all give it a try and let me know if it adds any lag for you.
Honestly, at this moment, my computer could probably handle a full 512x pack with no lag whatsoever, so I can't really test visual lag issues without all your help!
As for special items... yeah, probably! I'm holding off working on the full items.png because I want to give myself some time to think up cool special items! When I do sit down to work exclusively on the items.png, it'll mostly be me redrawing the defaults, as there's only so much you can do with most of the items. Plus, you have to make sure players can look at the item and instantly recognize it (At one point, I had downloaded some awesome animated modren diamond tools, but got rid of them because I couldn't tell what was what.)
But yeah, I'm gonna try and have some cool items thrown in there, especially for the diamond tools and swords. I want all the diamond ones to be animated in some way, and the swords to all look different.
Right now, I'm thinking:
Wood Sword- Some sort of paddle with "lamda lamda lamda" symbols on it (love throwing in little references)
Stone Sword- Mjolnir. I may get rid of the animation, as I have to remake the entire thing anyways and I think I want only the diamond tools/swords to be animated
Iron Sword- Some sort of regular sword, done in my style.
Gold Sword- Bloody Cleaver. Basically done, though I may have to touch up the details now that it's 256x.
Diamond Sword- Skeletor Sword (a mix between his newer 2000's one and his 80's one). Animated with either a moving light-sheen, or runes that light up. Maybe even just have the skull's eye light up...?
Diamond Axe- TCM3 chainsaw! With little diamond teeth that spin.
Diamond Hoe- Deathly Reaper-ish Sickle.
Diamond Shovel & Pick - No ideas really. probably just fancier versions of a shovel and hoe... maybe add a face to the shovel or something...?
I am building a house out of nether bricks in the normal world, so I often travel between nether and standard. When I was farming bricks in nether, I suddenly hear the sound of a ghast. I turned around
A fireball!??
A ghast appeared and bombed up my ass
BOOM!
A few minutes later I heard a ghast, again. I look around and WOOOOSH!
I saw a ghast directly appearing in front of mine. Never minded how big they are.
Good point about the items! I'm going to treat them with a higher priority than I was originally planning.
Cool pics too! I haven't had a Ghast chase me down a hallways yet, but it seems terrifying. Also, just to say it, i'm annoyed at how the Ghast fireball's texture is always BEHIND the flame texture... it looked dumb with the default textures and now it just annoys the crap out of me.
Also, thanks for trying to spread the word a bit! Honestly, I am having a hard time getting the word out there! I'm not too worried about just yet, as the pack is still relatively new, but it does make it difficult to get good feedback. At the moment I have something like 3 good people who actually test the pack out and give good feedback, so it can be tough trying to make decisions that pertain to things every user will end up loving or hating. Know what I mean?
Minecraft Mondays mentioning my HD skins Definitely helped! But let's face it; for a game mainly consisting of monotonous time-consuming tasks, its community has a shorter attention span than most.
This pack really does deserve so much more publicity.
It is truly amazing.
Seriously this pack deserves so much more publicity considering how good the textures are.
Did you take art or something in school/college. Those 'doodles' are amazing, you don't even want to know what my doodles look like
Have you ever tried drawing anything other than minecraft?
Why thanks dude!
I did take an art class during one of short stints with higher education (I also attended funerary school, which believe it or not helped me much more as an artist than any art class could have), but it was basically "Draw this fruit in craypas!" week after week, so I'd consider myself self-taught more than anything. Hell, my first ever digital art and[\i] game texture was making the strippers from Duke nukem 3d naked when I was a kid (lol. Now there's a story)
Yeah, I've done a lot of different art over the years. As far as paying work goes, it's mostly been sporadic band shirt and album covers; but in these days you can't pay with art unless you're someone that throws together random crappy fractal art and smears it in pre-made grunge brushes. Also, I honestly think I've developed a subconscious almost-racism towards musicians after so many have skimped or totally blown off actually PAYING me over the years.
I do have a DeviantArt account (HERE), but I don't update ity with any regularity.
I've also got my old old website/webcomic, "Mister Trioxin's Warren" (HERE), but it's ages since I've touched the site for anything other than file hosting. I suppose it might sever as a nice showcase for the evolution of my drawings though.
I don't really have much newer art that isn't minecraft related. the beauty of Minecraft, to me, is that fact that it actually gives me something to draw.
If you are making a Thor skin, you should make one with a beard. Although he doesn't have one in the comics, he is a Viking god and deserves a manly beard
Good thinking. I prefer my Swedes bearded anyways.
When i do get around to making a Thor HD Skin, I'll try and make a less comicy version, with a beard and maybe a more old-styled costume.
Good evening
I got two ideas for the scarf: Freddy Kruger or Edward Scissorhands
About the shovel
Maybe a rusty one for iron
For diamond tools I have no ideas..
But yours sound great
'Evening!
Both very cool ideas that unfortunately I don't think would work out.
I'm not sure what you mean by the "scarf", but I actually did toy around with making a Freddy Kreuger glove sword before I started making any public textures for Minecraft. It looked sort of neat in first person, except that the minecraft items' "pixels-intio-3D" effect made the the whole glove and blades look like it was a big grey blob with a palm in the middle. it also looked REALLY goofy in third person (i was testing it out for a 64x freddy kreuger zombie that never happened).
Plus, i think it may also kind of narrow down the target audience, if you know what I mean. With Mjolnir, someone who knows nothing about comics or norse Mythology can look at it and go "oh, okay. it's a stone warhammer. I hit things with it" Ditto on the future Skeletor sword and such. No matter how famous, with any bladed glove item, there would still be a lot of people wqho see it and go "Oh... so is this shears or what?"
...actually, now that I think about it, Freddy Glove shears would be awesome. Someone else make this now!
As for the rusty stuff, the first metalic textures I made for the pack were actually rusty, but I found that because most of my textures are so 'busy' anyways, that the added change in color and texture just made the blocks/items look really messy.
I dunno. I think the iron tools/sword will be pretty basic. They're your standards for the most part anyways, so i'm gonna try and keep them fairly faithful to the originals.
The only real problem I forsee with the tools is going to be the stone ones. How do you distinguish them from the iron tools without stooping to creating caveman tools that never existed and always look goofy? (IE. the standard "stick with a rock at the end and some rope around it")
Maybe keep their shape like the iron ones, but give their various blades a rougher outline and new rocky texture?
...they'll probably end up as ropey rocky-twigs anyways...
been offline couple of days , resting my foot etc.. its getting better.
all ideas in last page sound great- tcm chainsaw!!!.... and that moon is awesome.!
i have no problems with you adding 256x items since i can run a 512x pack easily.
thanks for your amazing work!

Fantatastic work! when ure finished, (or maybe interested) would u make some skins for:
-snip-
and maybe just more mob skins for the randomobs mod (variations of the vanilla mobs)
Idea for iron sword: Jasons bloody machete,
and freddys gloves for shears would be awesome!
ehmm a few posts earlier u used a minimap, is it the rei's minimap with ur own skin? would be great if u publicate your minimap skin
I'll have to keep those two mods in a mind once most of the pack is done and I can start making mod textures aand such. I love the little hunchback minion model.
Randommobs WILL be added, but first I want to remake the Skeleton and Zombie.
The minimap mod won't be released with the next vDC. (next one will be a small update so folks can test out 256x Items and let me know if it lags them any)
Rei's minimap mod (and i BELIEVE Zan's as well) has its texture built in, and cannot be overwritten by a texturepack. So I basically have to finish my textures up and speak to them both about including them, in the mod itself.
Because english is not my mother tongue (I am german), I often swap words - I ment scissors, not scarf^^
How about making Woverins claws as shears, which move out of position, when choosing them in the inventory?
I guess that would take a LOT of time
I love comics, specially the marvel ones. In my opinion, Thor and his hammer "Mjolnir" are one of the best drawn characters.
About how to make other stone tools: I have no idea. Maybe the stone ones shouldn't be made too special (except Mjolnir), cause the the diamond ones would fade from the spotlight..
I am sure you gonna do it great, indifferent what and how you make it
By the way, next to the download link is still written 1.2.4, maybe Emperor Doom can change that..?
Honestly, I hadn't even noticed until now. Your english is quite good!
Animated Wolverine claws WOULD be cool, but
1) it would be impossible to animate them only when you select the item
2) it would look VERY strange in third person. You'd look like you were holding 3 straws or something.
It is a very cool idea though. maybe if someone ever makes a "Comic Weapon" pack, I'd love to throw some textures together for it.
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking, as far as the stone/diamond tools go; make the diamond ones stand out.
Also, thanks for noticing the "1.2.4". it's been fixed!
These are gonna be so awesome when they are done
For the shovel/pick you could maybe have a fancy metal detector with some flashy lights.
I cant wait to use the diamond sword and axe.
If the diamond sword is going to be purple (from the images) have you considered making all of the diamond tools purple to match?
Keep going! and to say your self taught, you are really good. Guess some people are naturally good
Why thank you!
The metal detector IS a great idea that hadn't occurred to me, but I think I want something a little closer to the default tool. (Makes me want a metal detector mod though)
As for the Diamond Sword, while most of the grip and cross-guard will be purple, I think I'll try and make either the entire blade, or the sharpened edges of it blue, to look like diamond. I'm trying hard to make sure people can tell what's what at first glance.
Neat! It's always nice to find a random "vonDoomCraft" mention on the internet that isn't one of the million outdated versions of my textures uploaded to 4shared or such.
why not just a wooden club as wooden sword? a really primitive club, just good enough to smash zombie faces
and a bloody/reaperstyled scythe as a hoe? trust me if u make such a texture i'll use the hoe for killing mobs/players not for farming
I may end up having to do that anyways, depnding on whether the paddle/cricket bat idea works, but honestly I just think it's a bit boring.
Almost every texturepack I've seen has turned their wooden sword into a club or baseball bat. the idea just doesn't appeal to me... unless it's like a Captain caveman club with a gloved hang that reaches out or something...
yeah, I may end up getting myself killed a lot trying to fend of zombie hordes with a hoe as well.

One could ask the same of Minecraft itself.
To everyone else, thank you so much for the praise, great feedback, and support!
You folks (and crippling boredom) are the reason I make vonDoomCraft!
New release later today (technically)!
Check the above post!
Woo!

Yeah, I'm gonna have to give some thought to the Glowstone. The current ones are good enough for the time being though.

(IE. the standard "stick with a rock at the end and some rope around it")
Maybe keep their shape like the iron ones, but give their various blades a rougher outline and new rocky texture?
...they'll probably end up as ropey rocky-twigs anyways...
all ideas in last page sound great- tcm chainsaw!!!.... and that moon is awesome.!
i have no problems with you adding 256x items since i can run a 512x pack easily.
thanks for your amazing work!
Thanks for the great comments everybody!
The texturepack itself is in Beta.
Sorry for any confusion, I'll try and word it better in the OP later.
