I really do appreciate the support, and I'm very happy that so many people are enjoying vDC so far!
As far as updates go, I still haven't had any real amount of time to work on the textures this week, so I very much doubt I'll have a new release this weekend.
However, I am now officially on vacation until the 11th, and have nothing to do after the Avengers and Free Comic Book day other than working on vonDooMCraft!
If I can get enough done, I may try to have some sort of mid-week release in addition to one at the end of the vacation; but it all depends on what I can finish and when.
At the very least though, whatever release IS finished should be a pretty big one!
yey i new it was only a matter of time before this featured on front page, congrat emperor doom! (are you gonna see avengers in 3D?) no pressure. i just really like that mod. i think however i have seen a mod on its own that lets you play as orc(maybe) without all the other stuff. (i'll try find it)
edit: found it http://www.minecraft...f-orc-or-furry/ but the orc is a bit crap compared to evilminecraft.
Not sure yet. I can see the normal version right down the road or drive an hour to see it in Imax 3d. Imax sounds awesome, but I'm not sure I'll enjoy the 2-day headache afterwards.
As for that mod, I don't think I care for the way it handles hair and such on the textures.
Gonna have to remember to give it and Evilminecraft another look once I'm at the stage where I can do frivolous mod textures.
...plus, I'm about 97% sure that if I made an orc skin for that mod, I'd have dozens of people begging for furry skins and my response would end up getting me banned...
I just saw your pack featured on the home page, congrats! I can't wait to try it out when I get home from work. Thank you for the hard work on making the texture pack. One of these days I want to try and make my own but I need something to actually draw the textures, plus I need to look up what all I need to do to make sure it actually works.

e: Forgot to say, the glowstone looks like... lava to me.
Yeah, it's not final. Surprisingly, a lot of people seem to love it, but I to be honest it was like a 5 minute edit just to see if I could make Glowstone look more natural. So while I personally think it looks like ****, it works as a placeholder for now.
Doom - ever thought about throwing your pack up on Customizer? I'd love to use the combiner there to fill in the gaps so I don't have to use default textures on the things you're currently working on.
Your pack is coming along nicely - the mobs, as always, are probably the best around.

I'm planning on adding it to the customizer once the terrain and maybe some other bits are finished. As it stands, I usually do at least one minor tweak to each old texture each time I release an update, so it entail having to re-upload each individual block and texture for each update...
So yeah, once it's further along I'll add it.
hey vonDoom, u said a few pages ago that u will retexture the mob skins, a necron skin for the skeltons would be awesome! (warhammer 40k styled)
and what are u planning for the animals?
While I do plan on texturing the animals, I haven't really sat down specifically to come up with stuff for them yet. The Chicken, I'm fairly sure i know what I'll do; the rest of them, we'll have to wait and see.
As far as the Necron goes, I've actually toyed around with a Necron skeleton! Unfortunately, something about the big blocky heads made them feel very un-Necronish. They basically looked like poorly drawn Terminators (as in Ts: Judgement Day, not Space Marines) with green eyes.
I may take a whack at Necrons again if I can ever come up with a design that works (I'm in the same boat as far Orks skins go too. They never look Orky with the MC player model)
optifine have a new preveiw for all animated textures so the sun animation should work with it. (i will confirm later when i have time)... also extended connected textures (grass, stone, tree etc)
and for the future plan of randommobs, u can just remove heads and arms from the zombie so they look like dismembered corpses...
its not so much mork but gives u more variability between zombies...

hmm to the skeletons, how about the punisher skull? its quite blocky, and u could customize it, to make it more "vonDoomcraft-styled"

Not sure about Punisher skulls. I do have a basic plan for the new Skeletons and Zombies; I'm going to have to find the sketches and post them when i get the chance.
Basically, Skeletons just need a new head. Zombies I want to completely redo using different skin/muscle/clothes layers so that I can make some simple edits for a bunch of new zombies.

Yeah, I just spent a couple days re-updating Minecraft/mods and toying with the new version of Optifine!
OptiFine HD A7- makes vDC look absolutely amazing! The anti-aliasing and AF combine to make every little block in the distance look perfect! I cannot recommend using this enough! Everyone should have it!
OptiFine HD A11- While this version does include the full animations, it doesn't yet make up for the lack of AS & AF. Also, the sun texture DOES work properly, but if you're not very close to the sun (or using a zoom mod), the animation is so subtle you probably won't notice it.
Once there's a version of Optifine that combines both, it'll be just about perfect!

On another note, I spent all of yesterday working on some new animations!
- I've fixed up the sun a little, getting rid of the Sunspots people complained looked unrealistic.
- I've also animated the Still lava and thrown in a brand spankin' new animated Portal texture!
IF YOU WANT TO TRY OUT THE NEW LAVA/PORTAL ANIMATIONS:
1) DOWNLOAD THEM- LAVA & PORTAL
2) RENAME THEM "custom_lava_still.png" and "custom_portal.png"
3) Place them in the "anim" folder in your vDC texturepack!
Remember, these took mostr of a day to finish and I'm pre-releasing them as a test, so be sure to stop back and let me know what you think!

It may not look like it, but I spent something like 7 hours on it. I went through like 5 different versions before settling on that one.
I think it's got a neat ethereal feel to it. It almost reminds of the ghost slime from Ghostbuster 2, now that I think of it.
Anywho, been working on textures all day today!
Aside from the updated Sun, Portal, and Lava animations, I've also:
- animated the chainsaw (it's not perfect, but it's usable!)
- Animated the new Mjolnir (lightning now travels up the handle and lingers in the head for a bit)
- Added vonDoomy Clouds! (you might not think it, but the clouds were the hardest thing so far!)
Check 'em out!
I'm also thinking of tossing in a Captain America shield alternate texture for whatever the hell item/tool/weapon you might want it as!
OH! And since full animations should soon be supported by Optifine, I'm going to toss in an animated television painting. I already had the TV texture made, i just have to animate some static on it, make it fit the pack a bit more, and it'll be all set.

I think the best ones out of the bunch are:
- Blinking Endportal eyes. GREAT idea! i could also make the eye of ender ITEM blink as well!
- Glowing Blaze Rod/Brewing stand. Another great idea! I'm gonna have to toy around with different animations for it, but they definitely seem like the type of items that should be animated.
- Moving Weapon X. Eventually, I'm going to replace this painting with a better cloning tube; probably with a semi-embryonic Creeper or something inside. Definitely needs to be floating around in the tube with animated bubbles!
Animated Fish would be pretty awesome too! Depends on what I end up doing for the fish. I was thinking of doing some hideous Anglerfish or something; but I get the feeling it would confuse people.
Just got done animating the Skeletor Diamond Sword.... I think people are really gonna like it.
- The runes now pulse every 5 seconds or so.
- There's also a secret second animation that plays much less often, but brings a lot of personality to the weapon!
Hopefully, I can toss in a couple more fun bits before having to work on the harder textures that need doing for the next release (Chests, crafting tables, & redstone wiring)
You know at the rate you keep coming up with great ideas for this excellent texture pack, you may want to consider a texture pack customizer. That way you would be able to still churn out good things and let people decide what they want to add to their personal vision of Minecraft. Sort of what Painterly pack and a few others have. I would hate to see any of these great things you have done be put away and not used.

I threw a couple together since that last post, and made a quick video of the new animations I've finished today.
