On another note, it's looking like Tuesday's update should actually be a pretty nice size, as far as new stuff goes.

Hey doom, is it possible you can make the alt textures into multiple images for each texture? I'm having trouble trying to get the alt textures to work for me. Or could you atleast replace the diamond sword with captain america's shield? Thanks!
I had an idea for an alternative bed, you could have a medieval operating table-thing.
Not a bad idea! I was thinking sort of along these lines, either bloody cot or bloody Frankenstein table.
Or maybe even a stone slab with Aztek looking blood-drain-slots all over it (Kind of like the table thing from the first Blade movie)
I think for now though, I'll do a more classic bed (I'll throw in some different sheet color Alts), and maybe animate a shadowy monster that reaches out from under it.
I just need to figure out how fancy I want the blanket to be.
Regal with embroidery, normal, or crappy and stitched together.
I'm not entirely sure how to make the bed scream "the rack" without having a big enough crank on the side; but with the way Minecraft mirrors the side texture to both sides of the bed model, I think it might end up looking like some weird steamboat.
Either way, I'll keep it in mind when it comes time to bed alts!
they look good.... even the dead one (usually i destroy all the dead plants i see!) these i would leave there. i have to say it again - oooh that gold block looks nice! my friend has a giant 64 block tall gold pyramid it will be nice to see
I just got out of work; So i have to finish fixing up the border to the saplings, then take some screens/upload stuff/etc and it'll be ready for release!
I'm going err on the side of caution and say it'll probably be like 3 hours or so from now.

I'll look into the character! I only played a little bit of the third one before getting bored and uninstalling it.

And yeah, that Bender is absolutely fantastic! I know I've seen it before, but for some reason it seems to really pop in those screens!
If you do end up doing the body, you should check out the episode where Planet Express goes to the Egyptian themed planet. There's a giant Bender statue in it that might have a cool pose or such!
I love the new GUI. Especially the VDC logo And the gold block is excellent, hats off.
I don't see any flaws, except maybe the top of the crafting table which looks a little "empty". But it still looks very good.
As of the GUI, the in game HUD looks perfect, but the buttons look a little repetitive. Again,it's not a massive flaw at all, It's still the best GUI i've ever seen in a texture pack.

As I said before, the GUI stuff is all WIP. (And for those who like the old Doom-y GUI, I'll add it back in as an Alt next release!)
The Menu buttons are a bit repetitive, but I'm hoping they'll fit in a little better once I replace the menu background with a black starry sky. That way, they'll kind of look like pieces of space debris.
I also have to work on their border, so that they're not perfect rectangles.
Along those lines, I also have to toy with the main menu a bit.
I didn't realize that the menu had that gray "fog" effect when making the background; but I still think the stars look pretty good. I may have to draw in some planets and such for the hell of it.
Another idea for the iron block! I hope you'll make this too!

Even if I was able to to make a swordy block that tiled properly, I'm pretty sure that it would end up looking like a mass of random lines and blobs from anywhere further than a few block away.
I do like the idea though! I'll have to keep it mind and maybe do something similar for a painting or such.

thanks man i drew a small blueprint first then spawned all the iron, originally the eyes and mouth where wool.
you probably saw it on youtube i posted it way back in beta1.3 or when new biomes and anvil came into game i generated a new world and used spc to move my big things to the new world
ive seen that one it has an egyptian head thing and is doing the 'walk' and breathing fire (i think) good idea i may do that.
finally worked out how to make redstone lamp dance floor entire floor able to controll every single lamp. had to start at bottom in middle its taking a lot of time to make but it will be awesome. trick is two layers of lamps at top. it will be 16x16 square. and then i have to program it!
He's actually on the list of HD skins I've wanted to make for a while. Unfortunately, it looks like it's probably going to be months before I get back into the HD skinning thing full-on; as most of my effort goes into this texturepack at the moment.
I'd recommend hitting up someone on the HDMinecraftSkins forums about the Boba Fett. I know a couple other big time HD skinners there have made a number of Star Wars themed ones; Just not sure if there's a Fett in there yet.

And yeah, gotta love the the total of like 40 seconds in which you can actually see the details of the sun... I wonder how many people have actually realized that it's not just a photo, and is actually textured kind of like the lava.
OH! Speaking of the sun, have you noticed the corona animation yet?
It appears that the newest version of Optifine actually allows you to see it without getting close enough to melt your face off.
(It appears that custom animations only appeared once they were within a certain radius of the player. I'm not sure if he fixed it for all of them or just the sun/moon)
OOF! If that's the amount of work that goes into something as relatively simple as a floor, I'm glad I never messed around too much with Redstone.
Seriously though, that looks very neat! Please keep me up to date on it if you can; I'm intrigued by the possibility of making a Minecraft Studio 54 and somehow working Dazzler into it.

I'm not trying to be a nuisance here, but would you mind making a 128x only version? I am a huge fan of your work, but the lag from the 256x items & sun (Or was it something else?) is making this texture pack nearly unbearable to play Minecraft with.

Out of curiosity, are you using Optifine or MCPatcher? If Optifine, which version?
I want to write up a basic "for best results, use vDC with... etc etc" but need some basic feedback from folks.
Unfortunately, logistics wise, I won't be able to keep updating vDC and include 128x versions of the larger textures yet.
The largest textures in the pack happen to be the same one that 1) have the most animation files 2) Are constantly being changed the most.
Until both the pack is close enough to being finished that I can start shrinking down the individual textures one by one for a 64x version, it would just be entirely too much work each release.
Although, when it comes time for the 64x version I think I'll include 128x items/paintings/etc; So one could take the textures from that.
You know what? Maybe I should ask around and see if there'd be anyone willing to help out officially with all the relatively small resize and alt-texture-swap requests as they're asked.
Give 'em some cool Doom-themed official titles in the credits. Add a list/links of the edits to the OP. Could be cool.

and for the red flower... maybe u could paint a rose with big thick thorns?
I've been meaning to get the food items, but had some major terrain bits to get done first... Also, I have no idea how to draw a lamb chop that doesn't look like a big white dog turd. Lamb is a boring looking gray meat, and none of the major cuts have any distinctive bones or shapes. Bleh.
The rest of the foods I have have doodled out though.
I could also use some ideas for the pork. I could do a big "Easter ham" type deal, Strips of bacon, or possibly a dismembered swirly pig tail!
I already know I want to do a dismembered zombie hand for the Zombie Meat (why everyone actually draws it as meat, I'll never know)! Just have to do the fingers so that they won't look like ass at 256x256

The current flowers are a little understylized for my taste, but they needed to be done for playability.
I do want to do a few more flower types and throw them in there as random textures (a mod I thus far know nothing about), along with some some different grass and tall grasses.
