Hi, I'm Pendragonown. I'm new to this forum and new to minecraft itself. I've been having an issue with installing texture packs, but I'm not sure if this is the place to ask about it. Here goes though. I can install them fine enough but when I look at the texture pack option on minecrafts main menu the pack replaces the default. What I mean is it still says default but it only says default and nothing else even though the pack is installed. What am I doing wrong?
your inserting it directly into the .jar. open the mods and texture packs folder from the game itself in the menu. then drag the .zip file into there, it will add to the list. not replace.

this.. and make sure the zip has a pack.txt in there that doesn't say default

I don't really know what to say, except that there is two ways of installing
A texture pack :
Way #1 (A.K.A. The easy way)
1. Run Minecraft
2. Click on mod/texture pack
3. Click on open pack, or whatever it's called
4. Keep the window that pops open, and find the place you downloaded the Pack.
5. Drag the texture pack to the other window.
6. Enjoy!
Way #2 (The other way)
1. Open the 'run' window
2. Enter %appdata% and hit run
3. Click '.minecraft'
4. Click 'texture packs'
5. Open the place where you downloaded the texture pack.
6. Drag the texture pack to the texture pack file in .Minecraft.
7. Enjoy!
If a HD pack doesn't work, you might need to install a patcher,
Which I forgot how to. Google it.

Hope this helped you!
The way I installed it was:
1. Opened Run
2. Entered %appdata% and hit enter
3. Clicked .minecraft
4. Clicked bin
5. Opened minecraft.jar with winrar
6. Highlighted all the stuff in the texture pack window (which was also opened with winrar)
And that was it. I opened minecraft to so if it worked and it did but when I checked the texture pack menu option it showed the default as being the texture pack I downloaded.
Oh and btw it says it's the original texture b/c
You altered the original texture. You can put it back
To normal by clicking options then force update at the startup menu
