The bricks were either going to be white bricks or normal styled cobble so you can get an interesting mix going on and it would make a better base for buildings. Which do you think *you* would prefer?
I'd prefer the white brick - I can deal with just one regular look for cobble.
White brick it is then!

Does not seem to be working for me. Are these specific trees/newly generated chunks?
Did you patch the game?
If not then you need to use the beta patcher (there's a link at the bottom of the OP)
please keep in mind, that we need something for the fundament. cobblestones are good as you can at the castle himeji that it uses something similiar for the bottom of the walls.
I agree - the cobblestone (and its mossy equivalent) could be modified to that sort of appearance.
maybe you can change the stoneslabs into a combi for walls and floor? the top of the stoneslap stays a slap, the sides of the stoneslaps are white"bricks/plastering".
Ah... that might be possible. I hadn't thought of that. What say Hugh?

I feel the need to name a building after you...
The LostKingpin castle? :biggrin.gif:
HAHA! What just a building? Not a region of the map or a city? Bah.
Only joking, but i'm sure you know that. I am honored that you would do that. LostKingpin Asylum? Kingpin Kastle? LK Kwickie Mart?
My main reason for posting today was to recommend a mod to everyone that frequents this thread. RiverGen compliments any minecraft map, especially an Oriental/Japan theme. Its a WIP script that places rivers strategically in your world. Like most new mods, it has some bugs and a chance to corrupt your world. I have used it a few times with no problems at all. The rivers that this code creates are really well thought out and compliment the landscape beautifully. Please disregard if you already are aware of this generator, but if not, here is the link. viewtopic.php?f=1022&t=240568
That's an AWESOME mod!
I'm going to try it out now. Thanks for the link!
I would name a region after you too, but I don't really have regions in my map, just.... 'That place' :tongue.gif:
Oh well, the castle will be amazing and it shall be called... something I think of a bit later! (yea, really can't think of a good name yet... Castle Kingpin could work though :tongue.gif:)

Great suggestions! I think I will change the cobble to a more classic cobble that suit's the base of castle's a bit better :tongue.gif:
I have also changed the red wool to red plaster (it looks awesome) and the rice paper walls are now pink. I might make cyan wool just a more 'bricklike' cobble. That could work quite well!
Only think I'm not too sure about is the halfsteps... I sort of like them the way they are now, but I can still think of other uses for them :|

The cobble is being changed. The other will stay as an alternate but I was also thinking that I could make the mossy sort of like an ancient temple stone covered with moss instead of just... mossy cobble...
In game it even says 'mossy stone' not mossy COBBLEstone... so that could work!
I changed the red wool to red plaster and the white wool is already plaster :tongue.gif:
I could change the sides of the sandstone though! At the moment they're basically just a sand coloured box! (suggestions anyone? :biggrin.gif:)
I mean no disrespect to 16x16 textures in general, or yours specifically in my last post, honest!
Just been playing with a lot of 32 and 64 ones lately, then saw yours and thought it was better in design than some of the more detailed ones...
I love using sandstone in builds because the Arabesque pack (One of my favorite packs!) has an attractive star motif on each side but for the top and bottom. The top side has paving pattern suitable for paths and floors, and the bottom has a circle motif that looks good as the top of fencepost pillars. The color reminds me of old ivory, so I was thinking about Noh masks.
There is a famous one of a smiling woman, but I don't have a pic handy. But I thought something like that might make a good side decoration for sandstone in an oriental pack. Or save it for the paintings set maybe? A mask might look a bit odd with a lantern attached to it...
How about woven straw for sandstone or pink wool alternate texture? I believe it got used for lower class buildings and farm enclosures, and also for floor matting. Would make a good thatched roof too.
I haven't had time yet to build a structure in your pack yet, but when I do, I'll send you a pic. Mate built Oriental castle on server map a while back, and I'd like to give it a go, but I fancy a Teahouse or an Inn...

Woven straw was one of the things I was thinking about for half steps because then they could have a much more pleasing slope to the roof. Plus I don't really use smoothstone half steps for much anymore since they became harder to get :tongue.gif:
Sandstone could actually be a style of cobble used for castle bases as Sojita suggested... I think that would work quite well! I will have lots of alternates for these things eventually though!

i would keep the wool for the interior, because if you wanna use this pack in multiplayer, your buildings will only look good for you and very colorful/weird for the otherones.

i dont use sandstone, because its ugly/too yellow :V
btw: you saw my post about the terrain.png-mixer?
ah and sorry, i wrote stoneslaP instead of slab t-t fail.
Hmmm, actually yea, I didn't think about multiplayer xD
What do you think of making sandstone more cobble like? That way you could use it for the bottom of castles, it wouldn't be yellow and ugly for you AND it wouldn't be wool for everyone else looking at it!
oh yea, and I did see that customizer! When I have a few more textures I think I will actually use that. Could be very handy for a pack like this! :biggrin.gif:

For japan castle bases there's one best thing in my opinion:
Not cobblestone, not any wool. But the SANDSTONE!
-snip-
I still working on texture similar to real castle bases. If anyone could make it look propetly everyone who's making japan-themed texture pack will be glad :wink.gif:
But its only my suggestion.
Yea, I really like this suggestion. I think it's a good idea to have sandstone as a castle base. I'm gonna give it a go! :biggrin.gif:
YEAH! Wanted a Japanese/Asian Pack for ages, I downloaded Okami pack and Japaninjamurai packs and they're really cool, but I think yours tops it.
The one thing I don't like is that the wool colours are going the get really damn confusing unless you have a key aren't they? By that I mean, on your other worlds you haven't prepared for wool to change into all this other crap that won't fit in in the slightest (not saying that your textures are crap) and thus you'll probably end up having to tear it down or start a new world. And as for multiplayer? You can guess what's gonna happen.
Bleh I guess I'll figure it out when I download the pack. Thanks!

Heh, yea, unless everyone on your server uses this pack, things will look quite stupid for them! :tongue.gif:
I have a separate world dedicated to this pack so things don't look so wacky when I use this pack and then swap out to another one!

okay, sandstones are good for the fundament. maybe you make sandstone into "yellow 'bricks'" and cobblestone in "gray 'bricks'"?
the the castle in osaka uses darker stones thant himeji as example, so it offers more variety and not every part of the castle look like a clone of the other ones, also you can use the gray stone for the walls, and the beige for the castle.
edit: i dont want to offense your map-icon ingame, but the dragon looks to chinese and not very minecraftish. http://i.imgur.com/0J9xt.png (i like the other ones more.)
i would change it into a ingame screenshot, or something more "japanese". °_°;
Yea, I plan on having two colours of cobble, the sandstone one being a bit more orange and lighter (not actually orange, just not grey :tongue.gif:) and normal cobble being slightly darker with less colour.
As for the in game texture pack icon, it does look a bit stupid xD
I only made it because I needed something there so you could at least tell which pack it was. It's definitely going to be changed when I get the time!

Actually, there is three different cobble stones. Don't forget about the lovely mossy cobble stone. That one looks really nice to use as a base for buildings in grassy areas
Derp, of course xD
I think I might have a different style of cobble for mossy as well! (will still be mossy though, don't worry about that!)
I think combining all three could make some amazing buildings. :biggrin.gif:

Hey Sheep!
When is the next version coming? What will be in it?
Ok, I just finished the huge pile of work I needed to do so I get really get stuck into texture packing again!
Expect the update very soon with a nearly finished, if not finished terrain with some tweaks and fices thrown in. Really nice GUI by eShredder (and customized/tweaked by me :wink.gif:) and some other stuff I've forgotten. I might update this post when I find out what else I've done!
So yea, update is soon guys! Thanks for your patience! :biggrin.gif:
Ok everyone, update should be tomorrow!
I've been working on this in silence (mostly because almost all the recent work was done on my netbook, so no screenies due to it's IMPRESSIVE minecraft playing ability!)
The gui and almost all blocks on the terrain are done! (there are like 2 more :biggrin.gif:)
I also finally tweaked those items I meant to tweak ages ago (the rice balls and rice crops, etc.)
So yea, won't be any screenies this release so I was wondering if, when it's released, you guys could take some screenies so I could update the OP with them? (and the stuff you've built is about 98.7x better than mine xD)

I think you could make something similar as some stone texture in your pack.
Yea, I've changed the cobble, but I made it a bit less square than yours is. Still looks fantastic though! :biggrin.gif:
Eagerly anticipating updates to both of your packs.
I'll have you know that your work is the only reason I'd ever play in 16x resolution. :smile.gif:
Not long now! :biggrin.gif:
My packs and Jolicraft are actually the only reason I would use 16x as well! (well, consistently anyway :tongue.gif:)
After looking at Doku's stuff though, I really feel the need to go slightly higher resolution!
Probably won't be released until all the terrain is done, but it'll be a nice side-project for me. Reminds me that I also need to do the 64x version of this pack as well though >.>

It's based off of Himeji Castle. It's currently a WIP. I still need to make the top floor as well as the secondary towers and castle town
Ahhh, amazing castle!
I've actually just started a Japanese style castle! Might have to take a bit of inspiration from this though :wink.gif:
