To use this pack to the full extent of it's usability and to get my custom biomes (cherry blossom trees), custom water colour and custom lava you're going to have to use a patcher. It's a pain, yes, but until Notch supports texture packs fully by letting us use OUR custom biomes, water and lava, it's the only way to access them. I suggest using the Beta patcher I've provided in the link below. It installs once and lets you swap between any texture pack with the usually texture pack selector (in the main menu of Minecraft). It automatically patches the pack you switch to so you don't need to worry about anything. It also let's you use HD packs like 64x64 or 256x256 without needing to quit the game and re-patch every time you want to swap pack.
tl;dr, If you want cherry blossoms, pretty water and lava, click on the link below and follow the instructions in the thread.
The answer you seek is at the bottom of the very first post of the texture pack you're using.

You owned him. and by the way @XSSheep, learn English instead of using a translator. This makes me think you are too young to be on these fourms. Sorry to sound rude if I did but I know a lot of people that have a good sophisticated level of English at 13-16. I'd expect most people on the fourms to be 10+
I know english quite well >.>

Hi Sheep. This is my first post on these forums. I have been playing minecraft for a while, and I was hungering for a Japanese texture pack, so I decided to make one. During the earliest stages of its development, I discovered your pack, and I fell in love. I have continued to work on mine, but a lot of things in it were inspired by yours. It is 32x32, not 16x16. I heard you wanted to start a 32x or 64x, but if you wanted to look at mine, you can. The terrain.png is below: http://img130.imageshack.us/i/terrainjk.png/
A few suggestions:
Ok, first off is wool:
Maybe try to color code your wool more, so things that are more red are red wool, and so on. This would help immensely if people are too lazy to read the wool guide. Also, try to put non-wool wool textures on colors that are not common in Japan. For example, red is used A TON, but it is taken. Also, your red wood could be a bit brighter.
Your stone is a bit too light. If you are using photoshop, do control-u and turn the brightness and saturation down a bit.
Ores are a bit wierd in my opinion. Sorry to brag about my ores, but look at the png above for another kind of suggestion, because mine are horrid. The style is what I mean.
In terms of half blocks, maybe you could incorporate the thatch roof on those! There is already a cobblestone half block, so you don't have to do another stone. This might solve your problem.
The glowstone looks strange, It might look better more plain, and once again (sorry to brag), look at the png above for another idea.
Your unpowered redstone lantern looks like the regular torch. look at my png above (bragging again! ugh) for a suggestion.
Windows do look a bit like a jail. Maybe turn the thing 90ยบ degrees and see how that looks.
Tree leaves could have a few more flowers on them (for the sakura). You have done a much better job than I could have. My pine leaves and all logs are stolen from faithful 32 (Sorry!).
Sand. Japanese were famous for their sand patterns. I tried to replicate these in sand and sandstone (your plaster could once again return to being the white wool). See png above (ugh!) for some ideas (circles and lines were the most popular). The lines that could be in the sand texture see pretty natural too, because sand is often blown by the wind into those patterns.
Brick. A lot of castles in Japan have white brick outsides (including himeji). Red bricks seem a bit out of place, so making them white could allow you to make castles that are actually sturdy and not make out of wool.
I did a tiny bit of research (google images) for many of the suggestions above, so if you want to learn more about my suggestions, just do the same. Also, Sounds sort of strange, but I request that you work more on the terrain.png and the items. I just think that armor can wait until other textures are done. Sorry if this sounds too commanding! Your texture pack is BAUS!

Those are very good suggestions - I may keep that in mind for my own packs as well. My Himeji-inspired castle is mostly made of wool (moreso now that I am replacing the plank floors with tatami-textured wool).

Iron doors need power - easiest way is to put a lever or button on one of the blocks directly to the side of the door, or a pressure plate on each side.

Yea probably... Although I did fix some errors with it and made it easier to read anyway, so I gotta thank him for that! :smile.gif:

Ok first up, thanks a HEAP for your feedback! :biggrin.gif:
Things like this huge review/suggestion dump really help me move the pack up to a higher standard!
I'll go through and answer each one of your suggestions one by one.
-Wool: okay, I know I could've colour coded this, in fact before I released the last update, I had my own version that WAS colour coded... But one thing I didn't account for was already having structures changed to fit the old way when there were just tatami mats and rice paper walls as the wools... So when I loaded up my world, almost all of my structures looked like some frankenstein creation and not at ALL nice... Another reason was that I want to keep the wool you can get in the wild, AKA. off sheep, normal wool. I don't really like the idea of hitting red wooden slabs off a grey sheep and so on, so forth. This sort of limited me from I think 5? wools?
-Stone & ores: Ok, I think the stone isn't THAT bad but I will darken it a tad. I tried to make it look sort of marble-y and it does sort of look marble-y. That's a success in my book xD. For the ores, I actually like all the ores except for iron and then gold i'm sorta meh about. With your ores, I noticed they are all the same shape? That's not something I really like to do in my packs. Diamonds are small, so I make them smaller specks in the stone. You get heaps of lapis and redstone, so I made the rock full of it! So on, so forth :tongue.gif:
-Half blocks: I actually really like this idea xD
I'll include it as an alternate in the next update, if not the default for the pack!
-Glowstone & redstone: Ok, the redstone torch was something I actually just forgot about >.> Thanks for reminding me of that! It's just a quick fix, so yea. As for the glowstone, I myself am not entirely happy with it... It was something I did sort of as a trial at the start of this project and just left it in. I might make one with less detail but I also want to make a lantern with great detail that would look awesome just scattered about your buidlings.
-Windows: Yea, they do look good when used correctly with proper Japanese architecture :tongue.gif:
Also, if you type in Japanese castles or whatever into google, probably 70% of the windows would be downward slats.... Although, I know they can be horizontal as well so I might make a horizontal texture as well and see how much I like it!
-Leaves: I really like this idea as well but there are 2 problems. 1: This is only 16x16 so making things that actually look like FLOWERS takes a reasonably amount of space IN that square... this means that there wouldn't be many per leaf block (i'm guessing 2 at most). 2: With the biome's, if I put a colour down on the leaves on terrain, that colour will be tinted with whatever colour corresponds to the area it is in-game and where that area in-game corresponds to on the biome triangle.... (didn't make much sense xD) Ok, If you have blue flowers drawn on, you go to an are of the game with red leaves, the blue would be tinted red.
-Sand: I really like this idea as well! Can't believe I didn't think of zen garden style sand xD
I'll definitely include this idea!
-Brick: I do like the idea of white bricks! Unless I can find another type of brick that suits it more, this is what the bricks will become!
-Final paragraph thing!: Yea, I get kinda sidetracked on these things so I tend to work ALL over the place for my texture packs >.>
I'm concentrating on the terrain again at the moment, but the reason I do it is because just mindlessly plowing through the terrain really kills your inspiration... same with armour, items, etc. If I have a 'brainwave' for something as well then I tend to work on that for a bit just to get my idea there and so it's easier to remember what I had in plan for that thing and it's a lot easier to come back to later on!
Phew! :biggrin.gif:
That was hefty!
Thanks again for your feedback though, I think I answered everything! (just comment again if you have any more feedback or questions)
I like the start you've done on your pack to! It looks like it's going to turn out quite nicely! :biggrin.gif:

Yea, It's best if you create another world just for this texture pack. Because of how I changed the wool, most world's end up looking a bit weird.

Hello guys!
Awesome texture pack, congrats! But I got one problem: iron door wont open, why? Does it happen to anybody else?
Thanks!
And keep up the good work!
I have to say, I really like this pack. I usually don't like that many packs because they usually end up basically all the same but yours is different. Since this is a WIP I do feel like giving you a few ideas first.
1. For your furnace, maybe you could make it a rice cooker. I think it would be hilarious to smelt iron and gold in a rice cooker, especially if it looked like this:
A more serious version though could be a Kamado.
2. For wheat, maybe you could change it into rice so that it fits in more with your farmland block. Additionally, bread could become onigiri and cake could become a mochi rice cake .
3. For the flowers, maybe you could make the roses into Azaleas and the other flowers into chrysanthemums .
I really do like your texture pack and I hope that you are able to complete and update it.
As a WIP, I won't give you but I will give you and iron pickax and tp you here:
Hahaha, Love the rice cooker xD
I mean, I won't do it, but still... would be quite funny!
I will try and implement that kamado! I've been trying to find a Japanese furnace for ages, so thanks heaps for that picture!
Wheat is rice as of the next update (it's already done, there are pics up there^ somewhere :smile.gif: I also made rice balls instead of bread too!
I love the flowers too! I'll do my best to make them!
Anyway everyone, here are some more pics! (mostly of the new rippled sand but there are some of new white slatted windows. A lot less prison like!)
Also found an interesting glitch! It doesn't rain on sand! Not sure if this is the only block it doesn't rain on, but it looks really stupid!
Yea, this pack is still no where near completion. I still want to do the gui, items, armour and the mobs :smile.gif:
But first I need to finish the terrain, then probably the armour and then the items before I do the gui!
Although I might come up with a really good idea for it somewhere in between and just get right to it, I dunno :tongue.gif:
And also, 64x is coming when this is at a slightly higher stage of completion, maybe when all the terrain and items are done, sort of like a base to work off!
So yea, almost everything you want to happen, will happen (hopefully) soon! <3
Great pictures too! :biggrin.gif:
:biggrin.gif: Oh that's great to hear then! I shall lurk this thread then for updates and what not. <3 Keep up the great work.

You're very welcome.
By "my own packs" I meant compilations for my own personal use. I haven't made my own textures yet, aside from modifying a commercial stock texture to do turtle-shell bedrock. I tried my hand at a shoji door last night and it looks lovely... as long as it's closed. The jamb looks funny when it's open.
So, yeah, maybe someday in the future I'll do a pack, when I have a better working understanding of Paint.NET. My artistic skills aren't very good though. For now, it's just a collection of my favorite stuff from other artists' 64x packs, so it's not something I'd presume to share or distribute.

Ahhhh, fair enough :tongue.gif:
I used to do basically the same thing, just editing packs or mixing and matching for my own personal use. It's sort of what got me into texture pack making!
My first textures though, weren't very good so I never released them. The other one in my sig was probably the 4th? texture pack I made before actually releasing something. I do feel a lot more confident about making textures now though! :smile.gif:
Oh and good news for you, I'll be starting the 64x pack tomorrow! I'm feeling the need for high-res textures! :biggrin.gif:
PS: That turtle shell is awesome xD Might be something I would use but I generally tend to make more serious packs... But then again, it is bedrock...

EDIT: Download link for the new version is up!
Leave some feedback! :smile.gif:
Are you making a Japanese themed pack as well? If so, would I be able to have a sneak peak? xD
Also, thanks for helping out all those guys in this thread!

Curse PremiumAhhhh, fair enough :tongue.gif:
Glad you like the bedrock - I wanted something that would enhance the "mythic" quality of the game.
