Hi,
I'm just playing around in terrain.png as well drawing lines on the borders to see what effects that has on the look.. Just using black or white is horrible so I've adjusted the brightness of the lines and the effect is somewhat different:
black (boooring):
white: (I like it more, actually nice at night)
I then took it to it's logical extreme and Matrix-ified it!
I've popped the three terrain.png files into a zip:
